This was, with zero exaggeration, one of the most enjoyable horror games that I've played in a little while. Smashed it with the gameplay, smashed it with the design, smashed it with the story. These developers gained a new fan with this one.

If this game was shown in the middle of the Game Awards and not at the end, there's a good chance you wouldn't even be reading this review right now. Is this the next generation of shooters? Heck no. Did it have a rough launch? Yeah kinda!

But there's something here worth checking out. They've put out 3 patches at the time of writing this, and it's only improving each time. It's free, it's fun, the microtransactions aren't in your face, the first season's battle pass is completely free. It deserves an honest shot, because what it was given wasn't very fair at all.

SUCH A BREATH OF FRESH AIR TO THE GENRE!

This game stays true to the traditional equipment you would see in other games of this genre without getting too gimmicky. It's scary, it's got character and base customization, it's got good graphics and the game runs well. I haven't played a certain other ghost hunting game in a few years, but I can say with confidence that this game stands on it's own two feet incredibly well.

Worst Multiplayer experience I've ever spent money on. Thankfully the MyGM mode works well, but in 50 hours of gameplay I have only gotten to play 3 matches with my friends, the online multiplayer is so atrociously frustrating.

Gameplay is great, seriously addictive and enjoyable experience. The rest however falls short and feels sloppily thrown together. Lots of critical information about what certain things do and how some mechanics work are completely missing, and the dialogue tries to be quirky and silly but comes off as annoying and repetitive instead. It gives off AI vibes.

Doesn't change the fact that the movement and fluidity of the game feels amazing though, still worth it.

The game is fun, but don't let that be a praise of the actual life simulation mechanics, those are awful and feel like no tested them. You can get married to a complete stranger in an afternoon, run for multiple days on no sleep and barely lose a chip in your step, you can make more money from your computer than you can a full time job, and a lot of the dialogue options are awfully translated and miss every mark of feeling like a life-like conversation. Oh, and your character will die of old age in like 3 in game weeks so you better start having kids fast.

At least I have AI Generated Fish Socks though.
