A fun and interesting take on card-games that keeps strategy but adds plenty of fun at drawing the right card at the right time.
A shame that such a fun game is paywalled hard, has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ battle pass, and crashed to desktop twice within 15 minutes of playing it. How does a game designed for mobile crash so hard?
Was an enjoyable experience but not going to sink my time and money into it when there are games out there that treat you like a person, not a wallet.

For a £50 game it is surprisingly short, it's far more of a story-driven game than an open world title, with 100% completion of the base game able to be done surprisingly quickly compared to similar open-world combat hybrid games like Kakarot.
That being said the story in this game really picks up in Act III and is worth the build up. There's a reason this game made waves when it originally released, from the story to the solid gameplay and satisfying feeling in all aspects, especially the swinging.
Getting 100% completion came and went very quickly, so don't worry about going through the main story first, however getting all the quests done and then doing the minor tasks sprinkled around the city will likely lead to boredom.
The combat is solid with its mechanics, even if late-game you just use as many gadgets as humanly possible because there's nothing stopping you, and it's by far the most effective strategy.
The optional mini-boss you fight for completing specific challenges around the map is so hilariously easy compared to just a group of enemies.
I'd recommend this game but maybe wait for an offer because £50 is real harsh for such a short experience, but it's a quality experience for sure.

Having refined the combat system from the Xenoverse titles, as well as incorporating some animation cutscenes that make FigherZ look outdated, there are certainly merits to this game and I enjoy it, however I would be amiss to not admit this game is mostly poor: It attempts to be an RPG-Lite experience with various mini-games, cannon-fodder enemies, an empty open-world with so, -so- many fetchquests. Having completed the cell-saga at time of writing doing all the sidequests that appear, they certainly feel repetitive, and mechanics like resource-gathering, crafting and cooking, not using boosted flying and using options like nimbus instead, and much much more are all really disconnected from the core gameplay and feel very tacked-on and poorly-thought-out.
That being said the combat and story of this game are still really fun, worth getting on a sale.

This game does have its issues, mostly the sluggish controls along with input delay, repetitive music due to a lack of variety, and a lack of a freestyle/sandbox mode.
It is also extremely easy to mod, you can quite easily disable all timers in the game, though this isn't a complaint, honestly the game doesn't lose any part of its fun factor with friends when the timers are removed because you play to be efficient anyway.
The experience gain is extremely slow, certain food styles or upgrade cards will be avoided at all costs (Looking at you carrot soup) and the forced layouts and limited randomised wallpapers and floors for the restaurants remove a part of customisation that the game seems to enjoy giving players.
That all being said, it's still a fun and enjoyable game to work with the randomness you're granted, it can be a fun mess with friends or a focus heavy solo game.
I'd personally request the fix of any input delay, a more freestyle mode where you can customise the restaurants' layout, purchase any items from a catalogue rather than randomly being granted at the end of shifts, and a major increase in experience gain.

Only got this game to give the developer my money, I knew all the endings but this game designer deserves all the love!

Do you want a polished looter shooter with fun abilities for distinct class and subclasses and four player co-operative gameplay with doesn't diminish single-player experiences, ala Borderlands?
Then play Borderlands.
Or Borderlands 2.
Or Borderlands the Pre-Sequel.
Even Destiny and Anthem could be considered better purchases than this, it's that rough.
If you want to purchase this title please note that the developers proudly postulate that this game was five years in the making. If you know anything about game design, when a developer states it's been such a long development cycle you're not purchasing the next god-tier title, you're getting Anthem, or Mass Effect Andromeda.
This game can be extremely clunky: In order to avoid lag the developers seem to have made it so elements of the game simply don't load in order to create a more seamless experience, but this leads to gunfights where gunfire is silent and lack any muzzle flashes or recoil or other dietetic signifies of when enemies are shooting you, making your ability to detect when you're taking damage rather lacking. Enemies will stand and stare at you, and you'll take damage that you don't properly receive feedback for. This effects you as well, your gunfire can often bug out making gunfire sounds cut out making all audio very choppy.
Do you like resident evil? That classic door opening effect that helps to calm you down and remove tension? How about that but 5 times longer whenever you want to enter an area you can literally see, with an unskippable fade to black that removes all immersion or excitement, that the developers put in for no reason because the game already runs terribly so clearly they didn't care for proper optimisation. My favourite example is an area of the world being blocked off by a wooden log. It's the kind of obstacle that'd be in the middle of a combat area that your character could hide behind and leap other with ease. Instead you fade to black, wait, fade in, watch your character duck under it, fade to black, wait, fade in, now you're on the other side of a log. This happens every 5 meters.
So perhaps you want to play with your friends, so you all pick a different class and group up. The game servers will often crash so good luck having long play sessions, if a party member gets ahead in level they won't be scaled to the group so high-level players can instantly erase groups of enemies for you, or joining a higher level party will result in you being a burden as World and Party levels will make multiplayer experiences un-fun. This doesn't even touch on the fact that two of the four classes are simply un-fun to play, and the majority of weapon types are useless too: Sniper rifles are typically fun in games, but when every enemy hides completely behind cover and larger tanky enemies can survive so many headshots you run out of sniper ammo before denting them, or you run in with a shotgun only to deal less damage since you're doing single-target burst damage with a severe lack of clip size and large reload time compared to SMG's or Automatic Rifles, you wonder why they're in the game.
So why not play solo? Well apart from servers crashing, an always online requirement, high level loot being locked behind increasingly difficult world levels, "difficult" enemies either simply being bullet sponges, having one-shot abilities or abilities that prevent you from doing anything (Who doesn't love stun mechanics?), you'll also have to deal with the fact that two of the four classes are useless when not in a group, and the god-awful story. The game starts with you landing on a brand new planet that might have hostile life, exciting! Then they nuke that, toss you into the future and congrats you're now on Earth 2 post-apocalypse simulator where human decency is extinct and your character is a snarky ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with no player choices or urgency.
The story can give you severe whiplash, for example you discover a clan of characters you weren't aware existed, nice! They have a festival you're not allowed to participate in, ok. One cutscene of standing around later your entourage of misfits walk over, one of them missing. Suddenly a random prisoner in a cage says that missing friend is totally going to die, and your character without knowing who this person is, why they're locked up, and honesty with their terrible lack of reason to believe them instantly frees them teams up and completely destroy this clan within a single story beat. Not to mention the terrible lack of foreshadowing leading to you discovering an alien species which can teleport and speak English as suddenly as in this review.
There's a quest in this game where you're asked to take the place of someone for "a game no one ever wins". Sounds exciting, perhaps a big arena battle or something? Nope. You just watch your character player Russian Roulette, get shot, get back up and then kill the other participant. That's the entire quest: A cutscene. Another you track down a pair of thieves who stole from an old lady, turns out the old lady stole from them and threw them into the wasteland to die. Your character is completely chill with this and just wants a piece of loot. What. There's some running quests such as gathering ancient artefacts of the old world or killing bounty targets, both of which are go to an area through those long drawn out cutscenes that are there for no reason, kill a group of enemies, maybe a mini-boss, and done.
Do you want to get immersed in the story and the world? Don't worry, this game has never heard of the phrase "Show don't tell" because you'll meet a character and within two seconds they die. But don't worry, you can read a paragraph about the character so you understand what you're meant to feel, instead of the developers trying to write characters they just give you a block of text of what they thought they'd be.
Got a rare piece of loot? It'll be outdated in two locations. Not two zones, two locations that you walk between with those terrible cutscene transitions. Are you tired of hearing about those? Good, times that by a hundred and you'll feel how I do.
One of the highlights of this game was a boss getting stuck in place allowing me to shoot it safely. This is when I realised shooting a stationary target was more fun than the actual combat of this game.
Congrats you leveled up to 22, now you get your final ability which is not worth the wait! Instead of giving you abilities that increase in power but also cooldown so you actually feel the progression, my last ability for my class (Trickster) paused enemies for about 3 seconds. I have three other abilities that do the same, all of which are better and have shorter cooldowns: They can deal damage, inflict slow, pause bullets to make you immortal for several seconds, but the developers thought your ultimate reward should be the option to nerf yourself.
Did you select a sniper rifle because you enjoy slow accurate combat from a distance? Sorry, this sniper rifle is actually a burst-fire gun, requiring you to be in close. With a sniper rifle. Somehow still deals more damage than a shotgun though.

In other words: Glitchy game, always online, bad multiplayer, bad weapon selection, bad class selection, bad character design, bad rushed story, bad side quests, 5 years in development and not worth the wait, can I trade this for Anthem?

Spore is my childhood.
It was one of my first games, my sister bought and played it and I managed to sneak on every so often and made my own species, it was quite incredible as a child to see what games could be.
However I don't let rose-tinted glasses cloud my reviews.
This game is severely lacking in depth for any of its stages, likely due to breaking the game into them. The game was ambitious aiming to be five whole games in one, however everything but the space stage can disappear in a flash and clearly took up a large portion of development from it. If the Space stage was given this attention, it's likely that Spore could've been a more relaxing and rewarding real time strategy along the lines of Masters of Orion or Stellaris. While designing dumb and horrific creatures might be entertaining for some, it doesn't have that charm on me, and a lot of creatures I design end up looking similar due to my playstyle: I enjoy taking the middle route, which starts as playing Omnivore and developing to be an Economic powerhouse. The other two paths just feel rather limiting, and not very difficult to achieve: You have to balance your actions to proceed the middleground, while playing a completely violent species doesn't challenge the player at all, same with fully peaceful.
The amount of actions you can perform are severely limited, and all gameplay boils down to mini-games that don't require much player interaction at all.
Still a great game from my past, but it's very much the No Man's Sky of its era, aiming too high and falling far short, except it never really got updates.
