This is the pinnacle of Dark Souls.

You probably know what Dark Souls is, so i'm not gonna explain it.

In my opinion, the game is even better than Elden Ring. I just disliked the filler content in the open world. In Dark Souls 3, every room in lovingly hand-designed and worth being there. No repetition, no riding past everything because it is boring, every room in DS3 is meaningful and does something interesting. Also, every Boss is very unique.

Also makes for fun challenge runs. A caveman with the biggest possible club and no pants plays completely different from a mage or a guy in heavy armor with a big shield.

Game is pretty good and can be fun.

But wow, does Ubisoft make it ever increasingly annoying to get to play it. A stupid launcher which i have to launch as Admin and where i have to input my password every single time i want to launch the game. Having to edit a config file to launch the game without getting a blackscreen. And still it crashes from time to time.

Paranoid Ubisoft makes it so stupidly hard to play a game i bought and paid for. This game singlehandedly made me stop buying Ubisoft games, and as a long-time Heroes Fan i find that a bit sad.

What pushed me over the edge to write this review was when my wife and i wanted to play a game of Heroes today. It took me more than an hour to even get to launch the game, because i hadn't had it installed on this PC.

Also, there aren't really a lot of maps which can reasonably played in coop available. And of course no random map generator.

If you are thinking about buying this game, buy an Age of Wonders game instead. Or Heroes 3 if you haven't played that to death.

Ubisoft launcher and Uplay are cancerous growths which suck the fun out of this otherwise pretty fun title.

Usually a good game, if it runs. Sadly so plagued by crashes that no one should buy it. Sometimes technical problems can ruin a good game.

There have apparently been a few patches which claim to fix the "access violation" errors, but as of June 2018, many years after this games release, they still exist. In my current campaign, the game crashes on the first time i launch a map. So, i can't keep on playing.

Apparently the followup game Imperium also has the same problems. So this game studio is not capable of making games which do not constantly crash. In 2018.

As a whole, the game is a lot of fun.

The gameplay consists mostly out of optimizing buildorders on the fly. Your goal is to wiggle around the production of different resources to allow for you to most efficiently construct combat units and thus destroy your enemy. As a whole, this plays a lot like an RTS if you took away all of the micro and macro execution elements. What remains is the pure strategy part of that game. How much economy am i willing to sacrifice to get unit x a bit faster? Is that worth it? How can i defend against the stuff my enemy is doing?

All of this is turn based, and the game has a random set of units in play each game, so it does not become stale memorization of build orders.

I mostly played the puzzles and the campaign since competetive multiplayer tends to make me anxious. Competitive multiplayer is however clearly a major focus of this game.

So much for the game.

A major problem with this game is that as soon as you start it, it feels like a free to play game. There is the premium currency, lootboxes, and additional parts of the campaign locked behind additional payments (You do get the whole campaign if you buy the pack, though parts of it are apparently not done yet). While all of this is fine for a free to play game, and all of the stuff that you can unlock via payments is indeed purely cosmetic, it still leaves a sour taste to have this much additional monetisation in a game which already costs 23€. Since i got the game for free, i personally can not complain about this.

Fazit: The game itself is fun in a thinky kind of way, but only buy it if you can tolerate lots of free to play monetisation in a bought game.

Lets be quick about this:

It is a walking simulator with a rather specific art style. See the images on the store pages to get an idea of how it looks. It does not involve anything but walking. There is a bit of storytelling involved, but not a lot. The game is also pretty short. After 45 minutes of play it is apparently at 44% completion, so i would guess a total of 2-3 hours.

If that sounds like a game that you are interested in with those drawbacks, it is good. Probably not worth the full 10€, but definively not a bad game.

Momodora is a short, fun platformer.

In enjoyed the setting the aesthetics and the calm music a lot. The platforming and combat are tight, and the game never feels unfair. I played on the middle of three difficulty settings, which was perfect for me as an average player that isn't that much into platformers.

The calm exploration and setting are definitively the best part of this game.

However, the game was a bit short (~maybe 4-5 hours for one playthrough, steam is definitively not telling the truth with 2.7 hours). I personally didn't mind because is got it rather cheap in a humble bundle, but i think 10€ might be a bit much to ask for that amount of playtime. That is your personal choice, of course.

There may be some replayability in this title on the highest level of difficulty, or trying to find all of the secrets in the game.

This game is good, but not great.

I do enjoy the writing, though this is obviously subjective. There are some things that feel like i don't understand an in-joke, but i never really watched a lot of power rangers, so that might be the reason for that.

The combat is complex enough in the later stages, but sadly a bit stale in the early game, as you both gain additional abilities throughout the game at a rather slow pace, and additional enemy types take a while to appear. It is pretty accessable due to that early simplicity, but it can drag on for a while. There are some customisation options in gear and skill selection which feel relevant, and the optional objectives can be fun.

The Mecha fights are pretty annoying. They are usually either impossible (If you didn't invest enough material into your mecha) or boring (If you have invested enough), and they don't really involve a lot of interesting decision-making.

The soundtrack is amazing.

Overall, i can definitively recommend the game, i am having fun and have nearly finished it now. I am guessing at a total of about 15-20 hours of gameplay. There are apparently multiple endings, but i don't think this game has that much replayability. Which it does not need to have, it is fine for what it is.

Basically, this game is awesome.

Cool orbital mechanics, space that actually works like space, lots of things to do. Hard to explain WHY the game is so much fun. It just feels very good to plan a complex mission, have everything go wrong, and then solve the problems that occured in some creative way.

For example, today i launched a rocket that should transport a Kerbal in a rover to the Mun, then dock again in Orbit and bring him back to Kerbin as a test for my interplanatary program. So when i got to the Mun, i noticed that i a) built the decoupler incorrectly on the main vessel so its docking port couldn't be reached, and b) Forgot to attach engines to the Lunar rover. So i decided to just let him in Munar orbit indefinitively, and send a second similar vessel with these problems fixed. Only i didn't have enough fuel on board the rover to get into Munar orbit again. Then i had a genius revelation. I could use the main vessel with the working docking port to save Jeremiah from his Munar orbit, crash the bad rocket into the Mun, and build a third unmanned rocket to save Bill who was stuck in his rover on the Mun. Luckily i didn't have to land exactly on top of him since my rover had wheels. So Bill grabs all the Science from the rover and flies back to Kerbin, Jeremiah gets rescued by Bills vessel, and everyone is happy.

Also, it has probably the most accurate depiction of Space you have ever seen in a game, while still being easy to understand and play. Gravity works like it should, orbits move like they should, you can do cool stuff like gravity assists to save fuel, but all of this is not necessary to play the game, it just makes you feel good if you pull it off correctly.

Finally, regarding the early access thing: My policy is to only buy games when i think that what i get RIGHT NOW is worth the money. If you are in any way interested in space (and seriously, who isn't), KSP is already worth your money at this stage. Anything that gets added in the future is just a bonus on top of that.
