The Class 27 is an older model and because of that is somewhat dated here and there now.

I'm not going to mention the sounds as I'm not an expert, but to me they do the job and they work.

I'm happy with the model too. It looks good and drives just as good. It lacks polish, here and there, but it is now quite old as I said. But overall, just like the sounds, it does the job, nicely.

Again, for whatever reason, DTG release a model with only one livery. Why? I know these can be picked up from other places for free but it would be nice to see a little more added by the game devs. It is something I don't like as they could easily knock up more.

The other problem is scenarios. They list this as having four, but yet again, two are only simple training missions. I know they need to add these in for people to get familiar with the loco. But it wouldn't hurt them to add two more extra scenarios so we can really get to grips with the loco. To overcome this problem, look in the workshop, you'll find some good ones there.

Which brings me nicely to this add-on's strong point. Most of the these scenarios will be for the Western Lines of Scotland route, like the official two mentioned above. And it is because of the WLoS route that I'm recommending this loco. It you love early diesels, like I do, you'll overlook its shortcomings, and simply enjoy the experience of driving on that incredible route that the Class 27 was made for.

Oh...and get the Class 20 for it as well.

If you are wondering if this loco is worth getting, then the short answer is, yes. Buy this loco, you need this loco.

DTG have done a wonderful job of the model, both on the inside and outside, and the sounds are not bad either.

The downside to this DLC is that it sadly only comes with two scenarios, although it is listed above as saying that there is in fact four. Now that is indeed true. Two that you will enjoy, and the other 2 are just basic training missions, which you will do in minutes. Not really scenarios as such. So it comes with just two in reality. But both are very good.

One other problem here though is the liveries. This model comes with just the one, although you can buy others for it in the store if you so choose. I think just having one is a little mean and I would have liked to see them offer more skins to play around with without the need for buying them separately.

If you do decide to buy it you'll find plenty of scenarios in the workshop for it, and the extra liveries you can buy are really well done as well.

Overall a great add-on and worth the money.

You do NOT need to own Train Simulator in order to play this game as it is a stand-alone route.

Set at Christmas time you find yourself in a snow covered garden. The route covers all of the garden and looks amazing, especially at night when it is all lit up. It comes with the usual things you'd normally find in a garden, like a shed, plant pots, a pond and a huge bridge to cross the pond.

Just being on a model railway is something special in itself, but with the snow and festive lights it just enhances it even more in my opinion. You'll notice lots of Christmas decorations dotted around the route for that added touch.

The music is great, and fits perfectly. The train is lovely, as is the rolling stock, some being equipped with Christmas lights. The scenarios are not hard to complete, which makes this route suitable for all age groups to enjoy.

All in all, you get that lovely warm feeling of Christmas, which I do like.

One of my favourite routes for Train Simulator has finally been re-released, and as mentioned elsewhere this is free if you owned the older (now discontinued) version that came supplied with rolling stock carrying the Arriva branding.

Arriva Trains Wales are totally gone and are replaced with Transport for Wales (TfW) and Avanti West Coast stock. Meaning we get more choice whilst making the route more modern looking. If however you are a fan of ATW (as I am) then don't worry. You wont lose the old Arriva liveries as this update creates a new route in your TS folder and preserves the older version.

This new version comes with 14 career scenarios, along with 5 extra scenarios in the railfan mode. You don't see many routes come with that many scenarios - so that is a big bonus. Which should help to get you familiar with the route, because at 105 miles long it will take you some time to fully explore it all. Couple that with 3 trains as well and you should have hours of fun.

I was impressed with this route first time I owned it and I think the scenery is still pretty amazing even today. It runs well on my PC, (which isn't new by any stretch of the imagination) and so I'd say most people will be able to enjoy this route if running on older hardware.

For new buyers then the question is this, is this route worth buying? For me, that is an easy answer to give, and I would totally say that it is. I will still be playing this long after I have done all the included scenarios and I think you'll also enjoy it too.
