As someone who hasn't seen any Star Wars media and bought this game solely off of PS2 LEGO Star Wars nostalgia, this is it. The definitive LEGO game, the definitive LEGO Star Wars game, and arguably the definitive Star Wars game. There is an unbelievble amount of content here and nearly all of it is fun. All your favorite memes, characters, moments (well maybe most of your favorite moments) are here, rendered in classic LEGO humor. The gameplay is good, the voice acting is good, the puzzles are fun, episodes 7-9 are not fun but I think I can blame that on the movies, etc etc. If you're a LEGO fan or a Star Wars fan, you won't be disappointed with this one.

It's not a very fun game. The writing is abysmal, the story is forgettable, and the gameplay is simply dated, clunky, and sometimes infuriating. I can't recommend it.

Good game. Shooting can be kinda clunky sometimes a la Gears of War, but gameplay is pretty solid. The narrative told here is worth exploring. I highly don't recommend the FUBAR difficulty unless you're going for all the achievements, as it's an absolute pain in the butt that isn't worth it imo.

This game will definitely be a hit or miss to some folks. The premise is simple -- a time travel experiment goes wrong, granting your protagonist time powers, but also fracturing the world, causing it to quickly approach the end of time. I thought the story was very intriguing and well-written, and there are lot of minor details that may seem forgettable, but are referenced throughout the rest of the story.

Gameplay-wise, it's a third-person shooter with a very bad cover system. Some people might be annoyed by this, while others may view it as a necessary motivator to use the time powers. Personally I alternated between the two, but the last few chapters definitely force you to move around much more. Gunplay is fine, nothing exceptional, but combining the gunplay with the dynamics and timing of your time powers lead to a satisfying, if not exceptional gameplay experience. I liked it, but others may wish for a better focus on the time powers.

The TV show aspect is a source of controversy - personally, I liked the additional exposition it provided to the world of Quantum Break, from the perspectives of other minor characters.

Overall I enjoyed this game, but I understand that it may not be for everyone.

Background
A little background on my history before playing this game. I was an avid PS3 gamer and as such, I played through the Uncharted trilogy multiple times before getting a PC and this game. I've also never played the original Tomb Raider games, so I came in pretty dry to the franchise.

But what if you haven't played Uncharted? Well then, you're in for quite a ride.

Story
Lara Croft and her crew are traveling on the Endurance, searching for the lost kingdom of Yamatai; when heading toward an island where they think the kingdom once was, a brutal storm causes a shipwreck, separating Lara from the rest of the crew before she is dragged into a fight for her survival in an unknown world.

I found the story to be pretty good but somewhat predictable. It definitely keeps you engaged thanks to its pacing, and this is without a doubt helped by seeing how Lara develops and grows throughout the game, from a naive, young girl to a mature, hardened survivor. This is also helped by the supporting cast, which consists of unique personalities and differing perspectives.

Presentation
Tomb Raider is a very beautiful and detailed game, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it ran at a near-flawless 60 fps at 1080p, with a mixture of medium to high settings on my "Rig 1" in my profile. The developers created a very mysterious yet very beautiful world filled with greenery and forests, as well as some wildlife. Sometimes you just want to stop and listen to the nature around you. Loading times are almost non-existent, leading to seamless transitions between different hub areas.

Gameplay
This game operates as a cover-based third-person shooter with some melee combat, with the combat being more focused on the former. You initially find a bow and some arrows to defend yourself against the wild, and later on, you find a gun. Whenever Lara is in the presence of enemies, she'll automatically crouch, and when you near cover, she automatically goes behind the cover. While this was convenient (especially when you didn't know that there were enemies nearby), I do wish there was a manual crouch button, as I did run into a glitch where there were enemies, but Lara would simply not go into cover. However, throughout my 19 or so hours with the game, I ran into that glitch only once.

The shooting in the game is pretty good. The game does a good job making you realize that you are a survivor, not an expert. Your bow is slow and sometimes you'll have to make every shot count, but it adds to the tension of the situation that you're in. My only complaint with regards to the shooting is that you're given a gun pretty early into the game, which easily outpowers the bow when you first get it, mainly because of its firing rate.

However, this is where the progression system comes into play, and I absolutely loved the pacing of it. Lara has three skillsets she can upgrade via XP you gain by doing certain actions. Similarly, you can upgrade your weapons with scrap located in the environments. The game's pacing is good enough that I had a couple skills/weapon upgrades left to complete before entering the final part of the game. This game makes you feel competent but not overpowered, which I really appreciated.

There are also "optional" tombs that are hidden in the hub worlds, in which you can explore and complete a few simple puzzles to get some scrap. I loved these puzzles, as they were what reminded me of the best of Uncharted the most, and they also varied the gameplay; my only gripe is that there weren't enough of them.

One gripe with this game is it sometimes (but not often) took some of the epic moments out of your hand and made them into cutscenes instead, where it made you wish you could've participated, even with a quick-time event. However, as I mentioned, these moments don't occur very often; you still get to play nearly all of the epic scenes.

My second gripe is lack of replayability. I tend to inflate my gameplay time by exploring the hub areas before continuing on with the story, which left very little to do after completing the game. There's no New Game+ option or anything, so the only reason why you'd go back to some areas would be to find the remaining collectibles or for acheivements. There is a multiplayer mode, but because of my internet connection, I found myself not budging above 15 fps, so I didn't really bother with it.

Value and Closing Thoughts
I paid about $5 for Tomb Raider in late 2015, and honestly, I wouldn't have minded in paying more. This game was a joy to play, from its breathtaking setpieces to its satisfying gameplay to its unique characters. I enjoyed my time with this game, and would highly recommend it for anyone wanting a third-person action-adventure game, and/or if they're a fan of Uncharted.

Phew, what a surprise hit of 2014 this game was! There isn't much new that this game brings to the table; it instead uses the model of not trying to fix something that isn't broken. This works in its favor.

Story: I'm not a huge LotR/Hobbit geek so I didn't follow the story that well, but from what this game presents, it's all right. I'm sure I'd appreciate it more had I had more knowledge on the lore. But there's far more to this game than story.

Gameplay: Mix Assassin's Creed exploration with Batman Arkham combat, and you've pretty much this whole game. But that's far from a bad thing. The parkour is fluid, and the stealth is neatly implemented. Combat is initally very brutal to the player, especially when there's hoards of enemies, but with time and experience, the combat becomes extremely satisfying, and sometimes almost too easy.

This being an open world game, there's side quests that you can do. They're mainly for gaining XP and upgrade points, and after a while, solely for getting acheivements (after the story is complete). The DLC is alright but doesn't introduce anything new to the game.

Visuals: A pretty beautiful game considering it was multiplatform. Running a GTX 860M with an i7-4710HQ with high presets ensures a solid 60 fps on this game. I haven't had the guts to try the HD upgrade, but if your rig can handle it, I'd imagine it only makes what's good even better.

Going to end my pros section with the Nemisis system. This is one thing exclusive to Shadow of Mordor, and adds a nice interactive touch to the world. There are captains all throughout the world, each having their own strengths and weaknesses. When one dies, another takes their place, and when you die, the ranks of those captains shift, making it feel like the world is actually responding to your actions. A great plus point to this otherwise fairly formulaic open world game.

My one and only gripe with this game is lackluster ending to the game. This game's combat follows the Arkham series' combat and then some, that is up until the ending. The ending is a %#$! QTE! and boy was that disappointing.

This game would've been a definite 10/10 had it not been the lackluster ending, and a bit of repetitiveness that comes with the open-world formula. As such, I can still give this game a solid 9/10 for its stellar combat, great stealth, and interactive Nemesis system.

It's you, your parachute, and your grappling hook. Do as you please. Nothing's off-limits. This game might as well have been named Badass Simulator, because that's exactly what you are, all the time.

Also the devs are hugely supportive of the PC modding community with Just Cause 2 (and the upcoming JC 3) so if you thought the base game was the limit, think again.

If you don't have a friend to play this with, you're gonna have a hard time. This game was made for co-op. Luckily, it's a ton of fun with some decent teamwork, even if there's only two players rather than three or four. Best to get this with a mate or three.

Really fun game to play, especially because it's free. Seamless level transitions, great soundtrack, and the option to dynamically switch between first and third person modes.

Levels can get slow at times, especially if many things are being generated, and it will push your graphics card a fair amount (GTX 860M). There's not many times when I'll get 60 fps, but when I do it's great. That's not what defines this game though, and shouldn't be what stops you from at least trying this game out.
