CrossCode: A New Home ranks alongside DLC greats like The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine and Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker by giving players everything that was great about the original game, just turned up to 11 and condensed into a smaller package. A must-buy for any fan of the base game.

There's very little not to love here. CrossCode features fun and varied combat with a good amount of build flexibility, engaging puzzles, charming characters, a solid story, and a banger soundtrack. Highly recommend to pretty much anyone, but especially players who miss the classic Legend of Zelda formula.

This game does a lot of stuff pretty well, but it's hard not to see the places where it falls short.

The two-mode combat system is interesting, but combat upgrades are doled out at specific points in the story rather than according to your level, so the progression systems can feel a bit meaningless, and almost all the runes are just stat changes, so your ability to customize your playstyle is limited.

The story's alright, but it feels pretty rushed. The game sets up this big elemental cosmology but rushes you through each world. To its credit, your character also feels like she's being rushed though things, but it still feels like it would've been better to let you really explore and get to know each world. That goes double or triple for Earth itself—it seems like the devs made the classic mistake of assuming that players would have a natural inclination to value Earth just because we're, you know, human, but I didn't really get a sense of who our character was fighting for back home.

The dialogue and codex entries could also use an editor—there were numerous grammatical and spelling errors throughout. They were generally pretty minor, but the quantity was rather surprising, given the otherwise pretty good production value. Likewise, I found the voice acting pretty solid in most places, but there were a few spots where it seemed like the actors weren't given very good direction.

Overall, while I'm not sorry I played it, Batora just left me a bit underwhelmed.

Good old retro fun. The story's not really anything special, and has some pretty noticeable loose ends, but it serves well enough. Gameplay mostly feels pretty good, but the controls could be tighter, and I don't think I'd really call it "fast and fluid" like the official description does.

What frankly surprises me is the lack of score attack or time attack modes, given that this is exactly the kind of game you would expect to have them. Even without those, though, playing through the story is a pleasant way to kill an afternoon, and I expect I'll probably fire it up again every once in a while just to play through a level or two for fun.

A fairly forgettable cyberpunk story, really just an introduction to a series. Writing is subpar and there are only a couple of choices to make. There's a pretty decent amount of art, but the game lacks a gallery, the ability to see previous dialogue, and—no joke—an exit button.

I won't say it doesn't have some problems. Like pretty much all fighting games, it has some balance issues, and I don't think I'll ever be completely comfortable with the live service/free-to-play model. But speaking as a fairly casual player, the only real question I'm asking myself is "do I have as much fun playing this as I do playing Smash?" And the answer to that is "absolutely yes, this game is fun as hell."

This was one of the first visual novels I ever played and it basically spoiled me for the rest of the genre. Play it. It's great.

Ever since I played the first game back in 2009, Mass Effect has been the bar against which I've judged all other RPGs, and I wouldn't be surprised if that remains true for the rest of my life. It has an epic story, amazing characters, and some damn fine gameplay. This is all that with a fresh coat of paint, and unlike most remasters, in this case you get three full games (plus a ton of largely excellent DLC) for the price of one.

Look, if you played the trilogy back in 2007–2012, you already know if you should buy this, and you probably already have. If you didn't play the original games, though, and this seems like something you'd enjoy? Please do yourself a favor and pick this up. Mass Effect is—and I do not say this lightly—quite possibly the greatest gaming trilogy of all time, and it is not an experience to be missed.

A simple, lightweight puzzle game with a straightforward central mechanic. Personally, I feel like a lot of the puzzles were a little too basic, but there are some fairly challenging ones toward the end.

My other minor gripe is the lack of accessibility options. I've got just a touch of color-blindness, and the game's somewhat washed-out palette meant a lot of the mixed-color targets looked more similar than they had to. It only just a bit annoying for me, but somebody a bit more colorblind might find it pretty frustrating. I know, I know, it's a color-based game, but it seems like it should be easy enough to just mark the lasers and targets with a letter or something to indicate their colors for those who might need some assistance.

Still, as I said, those are minor complaints. Overall, Colorgrid was a pleasant enough way to while away a few hours, and it's hard to beat the price, especially when it goes on sale.
