Rubato is exactly what it says on the tin, an experimental, 2D physics-based take on the collect-a-thon genre. You kinda get a glimpse of what you're getting into after watching the trailer and playing the first area of the game. Slowly but surely the pieces start coming together, and then the final third of the game hits you. The end result is a truly unique experience that will leave a mark on you, be it positive or negative.

I have some small to medium gripes with the game. In particular, the narrative pacing, parts of the level design, lack of a map feature inside the areas, the occasional comedic dialogue that lessens a potentially impactful scene, and so on. Even still, I finished Rubato with a big smile on my face. One of my favourite experiences with any game in recent memory.

A nice, simple, fun and rewarding experience. The characters are charming, the visuals are pretty and varied and, of course, the music is quite amazing,
