This game is good in doses in my opinion. Don't go in wanting to get the best ships straight away and you will have fun, people will say the grind is long but if you want to play and enjoy some free time then elite is a good pick.
Overall I would say play in parts, don't try to max everything quickly and group up to make it a better time.
