If you've never played a Metroidvania before, I'd recommend starting out with Ori and the Blind Forest, as it's a much lighter, easier, game. If you haven't yet, play Hollow Knight first. If you didn't like HK, I don't think you'll like Silksong.

Silksong is a real step up from HK, excellent example of what a sequel can be. Still has some similarities to HK, but improves greatly with more fluid mobility, tighter enemy design, and more complex character progression. Loving it.

Note: I'm writing this review after only 13 hours of gameplay (going through the blasted steps now).

TLDR: If you're looking for more portal 2 with original mechanics and great story, look no further. Outstanding game, would've paid for it.

The mod succeeds in both continuing the story and gameplay of portal 2 while still having an independent identity. The voice acting is great, the writing is tight and the characters are lovely. The mod builds on the art style of portal 2, introducing an even more decrepit and broken down aperture with greater detail and truly beautiful scenes.

The puzzles are original and flow easily, yet maintain the cleverness expected from them. The new mechanics peppered throughout the chapters are introduced well, are a good fit for the setting and story, and make for interesting puzzles. My only gripe is that the new mechanics are never brought to their full potential in more difficult levels. But this makes the mod easier to recommend, as players who played only through the main story of portal 2 are more than ready to play this mod.
