Having dumped about half my current game time in just the demo (caves only) before putting up this number. I can say there is definitely a game worth sticking around for here. Updates come at a relatively consistent pace with each major one having another substantial chunk of additional content. The latest of which being the Fortress at the time of writing has added another new enemy faction, wildly varied map design and a satisfying end fight that Is wildly different from the ones prior. They also rolled out new melee weapons just after.

The core loop is pretty great, kill some dudes while you chill out to some jams and loot cool stuff. Enemy difficulty is generally on the easy side, including bosses but if you slip up you can die pretty quick which is fair. You lose everything when you die, exception being if you have insurance on your guns which is a welcome change. Gear itself is neat, ranging from pointless, funny, awful, and amazing with some overlap with those that is both beautiful and terrible.

The weapons are wild and wacky but are in fact your tools of the trade with plenty of room for player expression. Want a handheld AC-130, go for it. Tazer-Laser rifle? Check. Perhaps you'd prefer to spread the power of love and friendship? Done and dusted. Maybe you want to watch the world burn, you can do that too. There's more added with every major step and they're a joy to seek out and play with.

It's a small team, working hard to quash bugs and incorporate player feedback where they can. They're quite active on Discord so any major concerns are seen pretty quick and addressed accordingly.

All that said, the game is in a bit of an odd place balance-wise. Loot drops seem almost a little *too* random (we need to bring back accessories pls). Weapon customization and stats are all over the place and while there definitely should be gear progression it's all kinda a moot point when you get into oils/scrolls. Take the aforementioned comments on gear and crank that up further. There's a very clear cut set of things that are desirable and absolute garbage. This is technically fine and loot is just kinda like this in general but there's just some things that will literally be passed up by everyone unless there's some sort of challenge run or something. Attachments are kinda whatever at the moment, I believe they are somewhat placeholder stats until the go over them for a proper balance pass, they work just fine but aren't really a big deal and more so just add some ease of use to your guns.

Inventory stuff. Hoarders in shambles. I'm the collecting type and it's never enough (it will probably never be,) but they are constantly addressing this. What was once just the main stash has grown to an array of storage options that most recently include weapon racks to display your cursed and cracked creations.

All in all I was hooked on the demo over a year ago and am still in love with what's been put forward so far. The devs are passionate and responsive, which you always love to see. There's still bugs, there will be more bugs (Early Access review lmao.) But there's a game here which seems to have captured the hearts of a few others like myself with it's charm and quirks and overall tightness of the way it all plays out. I'll be awaiting each update, dropping in for a bit before cooling off for a little while but I always have this one in mind when I have some time to kill.
