This may be a small studio production, but you can tell it's a labor of love! The gameplay and "what if" is compelling enough to give me multiple nights of one-more-turn-itis. Going in mostly blind on Normal difficulty was a pretty reasonable challenge.

And of course, hearing that Jerry Goldsmith theme in the main menu. Chef's kiss.

What it isn't:

- A big-budget production. On the one hand, I sympathize with the reviewers saying they wished we could hear more voices. On the flip side, voice acting is expensive, particularly for a RPG with lots of branching paths. Forgive me for being blunt, but, having grown up on games like Baldur's Gate: if you don't want to read, go play CoD.

- Perfect.

- Entirely fair; I'll freely admit some frustration at points with the RNG.

- Seriously, it is annoying me how many of the reviews are outright whining about a lack of VA. I want it too, but if you demand it in all your games, tax the billionaires so we can have lower cost of living and robust arts grants for games like this. And develop warp drive. Warp drive would be cool, too.

Pros: dorfs, diggy, hole, diggy diggy hole, pretty straightforward gameplay loop. Getting past the first 6000m is a challenge and there's a good amount of options to try and balance drill health, madness, and your quota.

Cons: UI is slightly cumbersome (clicking on the drill every time could be skipped with buttons on the main UI, there's room), no individual sliders for audio (the music is good but I tend to turn it down so I can have other things playing).

There's also definitely room for some sort of roguelike mechanics where you can build from previous runs, which might enhance the gameplay loop after your first couple playthroughs. Maybe as an expansion/DLC or somesuch.

It's one thing to use AI slop in your products. It's another thing entirely to knowingly use it and not disclose that fact. Shame on you, 11 bit.

It took me two restarts and a couple guides before I finally got the hang of the gameplay curve. You need to pivot at certain points from capturing nations, expanding, going to space, expanding, and building up for your faction goal—all while trying to stay under the radar until you can start holding your own against the aliens. Once you do, though... oh is it cathartic.

A fun little gem of a survival crafting game. You get the double dopamine hit of watching numbers turn into bigger numbers AND seeing the changes play out in real time. It's raining! There's a lake! There's grass! The crafting system develops pretty naturally, too.

There's a bit of jank, but nothing that detracts from the play experience, IMO. Worth buying at full price, and definitely snap it up if it's on sale.

A very well-done city builder; as much as I sometimes wish I could keep building my settlements, the roguelite element keeps me from getting too deep in the weeds and burning out from "the same, but bigger, somehow" towards the end. There's certainly an element of randomness in which directions you have to build but I've never really felt like I've had a 'bad' starting hand. Just differing levels and layers of challenges.

The best part? The devs are not only communicative, but they put out substantial patches every two weeks in Early Access... and then released out of Early Access with a fully complete game. That they keep updating.

Worthy of play, worthy of support. A rare gem in today's gaming landscape.
