A tour de force from start to finish. An amazingly well-written story, inspiring and likeable characters, and an antagonist you can see coming from a mile away (which, in this case, isn't a bad thing). A fascinating "What if?" scenario, exploring the possibilities of what might have happened had Julius Caesar been killed on his first deployment. You take up the mantle, and mostly mirror his meteoric rise to the top of the greatest empire of the ancient world. With a variety of different endings to choose from, even allowing you to maintain the republic instead of turning it into an empire, you'll always be satisfied with your ending. For the record, I chose to march my legion on Rome to depose the evil dictator, then I went into exile in Egypt and shacked up with Cleopatra, a la Mark Antony. Except my life didn't end with a snake bite!

Excellent all-round space RPG. Engaging, memorable characters, beautiful world design, and interesting factions. My biggest gripe is probably the ships. Usually my favourite aspect of a space sim, I found myself really not liking them. The modular system does not lend itself to truly unique or interesting ship designs; there's a handful of manufacturers with their own distinctive style, but the ships are all variations of the same thing: more modules, different configurations. Leaves a lot to be desired on that score, and it took away a fair bit of my enjoyment considering I'm a ship nerd; I'd have preferred fewer but unique individual ship classes. But I'm guessing most people won't care about that and will probably enjoy designing their own ships. I still played it for five days straight and clocked in almost 70 hours during that time, so I guess it's not THAT much of an issue.

All in all, I'd give it an 8/10. Looking forward to the DLC!

The successor to Operation Genesis that I always wanted. It takes everything good about the old game and piles on more good stuff.

A great little game, brings back memories of similar stuff I played during my childhood. Scratched an itch I'd had for a long time to play a trading/combat space game with a bit of story and a myriad of different ships to choose from. My only real complaint is that I wish there were more.

Seeing as you can't leave reviews on the Creation Club page (for obvious reasons), I shall leave my negative comment here:

Bethesda, you said you had heard our complaints regarding the paid mods "project" and would discontinue the programme. You lied. You simply re-tooled it in order to make it ever so slightly more palatable. It's still not acceptable, and we do not appreciate being ignored and lied to.

This was a good game, right up until the moment you forced paid mods into it. Now it is an insult.

Much more like The Dark Descent than A Machine for Pigs was. The beloved Amnesia formula is back, not quite the same as the original, but a hell of a lot better than the bastard lovechild of The Chinese Room. I only wish it were longer.

Environments are both engaging and immersive, and the aspect of having to repair things in order to progress is very satisfying somehow. My only major complaint is it's a bit short, I would love to have been able to explore the facility for longer.

An unexpectedly fun little game. It's the sort of thing you'd expect to find on a mobile device, and my investigations led me to discover that the first game in the series was exclusive to iOS, with the second being released on Android and PC as well. I really enjoyed this, it's very simple to play, and oddly satisfying. Saving up your money to buy a new ship, upgrading them, re-doing levels with your new ships to clear them 100%. All in all, pretty damn good. I very much recommend it.

I was so looking forward to this...

When I heard that Frictional were teaming up with The Chinese Room (of Dear Esther fame), I was expecting something pretty epic. With Frictional's immersive gameplay and The Chinese Room's decent story writing and presentation skills, this seemed like a match made in heaven. The reality, however, was that development was handed over lock, stock and barrel to The Chinese Room. The result is not an Amnesia game, more "Dear Esther: The Horror Story". To say I was disappointed would be the understatement of the century.

The Dark Descent was one of the few games I enjoyed more for its gameplay than the story. The monsters terrified me and the entire atmosphere of Castle Brennenburg filled me with a sense of cold dread and impending doom. A Machine for Pigs felt like a different game entirely, with only mere vestiges of the Amnesia formula that I adored. The gameplay consisted mostly of walking around, reading notes, listening to gramophones and pressing a few buttons/pulling a few levers. The Pigs did not scare me in the least, they just provided an annoyance that I had to evade; unlike the Grunts, who scared the living hell out of me and made me want to hide until they went away. The game is more about seeing supposedly "scary" stuff happen, rather than experiencing it yourself. It seems like they were so proud of their story, that they removed almost all elements of gameplay so you would not get distracted.

Overall, I would not recommend this game to fans of the original Amnesia and the Penumbra games. While it might appeal to fans of Dear Esther, and games of that ilk where story is the sole focus of the game, it left me wanting much, much more.

Moving story, characters you can sympathise with, excellent soundtrack and wonderful art come together to make this one of the best visual novels I've played. Recommended to anybody interested in the genre, and those who have an interest in Korean cultural history. Now if only I could get over my love for *Hyun-ae enough to do *Mute's route...

10/10

A well written, well designed and thoroughly scary game. The graphics are excellent for an indie game and I would recommend it to anyone who likes psychological horror games. People have complained to me about the momentary bouts of insanity that Daniel experiences where you are unable to control him while he cowers on the floor in fear, but I feel that it adds to the game's realism.

I give the game 9/10. Why only 9, you may ask? -1 for the occasional spelling error I noticed.
