I'm not saying the old UI was good, but the new UI is absoultely absolutely a step back. I don't want to have to scroll all the way right to access features. Just why. Also the Colorado map is beautiful and stunning I love it.

The high minimum specs to play were surprising at first but the game is stunning. We might finally be hitting Half-Life Alyx levels of graphics again. The movement and controls are smooth. I'm not going to play much because it is in early access and I just want to support this project.

I can't understand why the bots are so bad. They very often don't even shoot at you even if you are standing right next to them. It's like easier than easy bots

The player base is dying and the game is not getting any better. New DLC might look cool but it's just another unbalanced killer that they won't be fixing

Half-Life: Alyx Review

The Half-Life game franchise created by Valve has been around since 1998. Over the years Valve has notably created some of the most important games in the video game industry. Does Half-Life Alyx hold up to that standard? Just like in Half-Life 2, The alien “Combine” forces are reigning over City-17. This time you play as Alex: Vance, a member of the rebellion and fan favorite from Half-Life 2. Over the summer, I finally had the resources and time to try out virtual reality. It was an exciting experience for me, but one game left me the most excited. If you have a VR-ready system and are looking for the best games to play, start with Half-Life: Alyx!
Many games these days stand out for their stunning graphics, Half-Life Alyx is no different. Every part of the game is filled with detail in every corner. The backdrops to each level are beautiful, expanding as far as the eye can see. Each backdrop felt like an art piece and maybe even worthy of a wallpaper. According to Grace Li at Gameskinny.com “successful games use their graphics in ways that create captivating and memorable moments”. I recall on level 6 you step outside for a minute and you see the whole city. A giant Combine structure looms over you and I just sat down to take in the view when I was there. Many different games take on different art styles. Half-Life: Alyx features graphics grounded in realism that are very impressive. Almost every level has a different feel to it. For example, one level will be on the streets of City-17, and on another level, you are surrounded by alien flora growing inside a building with spores filling the air. The alien flora is one of my favorite details because it is creepy and bewildering at the same time. Each growth of alien flora has so many different textures that makes them feel real yet not from this world. I noticed some little baby aliens that were the same species as the tentacle from the original Half-Life growing like fingers out of the ground, however, in this game they were much smaller and harmless. For this game, I have to give graphics a 5/5 every little detail is interesting and very convincingly created.
The gameplay of Half-Life is very fresh and diverse. Beating levels does not only include combat, but also puzzle gameplay. Any good game should have a good variety of different enemies and you’ll have to choose the right tools in order to deal with them. This game does a great job of that, introducing new threats all the time. Sometimes you’ll fight threats that are very strong and you’re going to want to use a more heavy-hitting weapon to deal with them so you don’t run out of ammo. Other times you’ll be fighting from far away and you’ll want a longer-range weapon. In between the threats, you’ll find physics puzzles and unique minigames brought up by your wiring tool to hack into Combine tech. The Gameplay in Half-Life: Alyx is very practical and engaging so it deserves a 5/5.
To many players, controls are essential to the experience. Half-Life: Alyx’s controls are pretty simple. To begin with, the button mapping is not very complex. You’ll only need a couple of the buttons to play the game so you don’t need to worry about remembering button combos in the heat of the moment. A lot of the gameplay comes from interacting with your surroundings and gunplay. This game has some excellent tutorials for most features in the game. Many of the tutorials require you to learn before you can move on to the next level. For example, before you start on your adventure you are confronted with a lock. You have to shoot the lock to continue so it teaches you about breaking locks and shooting guns. According to Dustin Tyler at gamedesigning.org, great controls are essential for a great game. “Even if everything about your game is amazing, it won’t matter if your players can’t properly interact with it”. Half-Life: Alyx gets this just right by providing players with so much interactivity around each level you could almost stop fighting and sit down to interact with the bottles on the floor. On one level there is a fully programmed and functional piano, which is perfect for any piano player out there to show off. For the game’s well-optimized controls and great interactivity, I’ll rate it a 5/5.
The story is narrative-driven. It drops you right into the tension with the occupying alien Combine force on high alert. Alex Vance’s Dad is taken by the combine and you go after them to get him back with the help of the fellow oppressed aliens, the Vortigaunts. The story progresses occasionally as you progress levels meeting up with friends and starting to create a rebellion. Things get intense near the end where all the cards are in your hand to put it in a way that doesn’t spoil the story. It’s a very exciting moment and you feel like the things you’ve done to progress the story have really mattered. It feels so intense and satisfying. The story doesn’t introduce many characters. However, the characters that are present are pretty real and memorable. The character you play as, Alyx herself has plenty of dialogue and interactions with Russel another rebel who assists you in getting your dad back. Because of the satisfying story and enjoyable character interactions, the story gets a 5/5.
Valve is famous for innovating and shaping the gaming industry. Half-Life: Alyx does just that for the VR platform. It was a truly exciting and incredibly detailed adventure I won’t forget. You may have noticed that I gave everything a perfect score. That is because Half-Life: Alyx is the best VR game on the market and will likely shape the way VR games are developed in the future. Overall, I rate Half-Life: Alyx at a 5/5.

Incredibly fun.

I loved this game. The main idea is exciting and it's a fun game if you're patient. Don't listen to people who say you can't get enough supplies to win. But now heed my warning. The second map in the game sucks and the devs haven't touched the game in forever. This game has potential however I can't recommend it if the devs are never gonna fix the crazy bugs, not worth 15.99 in it's current state.

This games might be going good places. I kind of played too much already but I like the direction the devs are taking. Ironically, I left a review 4 years ago saying why did they ruin quick match and it only got worse from there. I do believe quick match is worse than it was before but the game all around is worth it for the good times.
