Cute little game.

Visually, I would describe it as a western Borderlands.

Practically, it's a railroad shooter with more control, so like a shooter on rails.

The gameplay and story blend together seamlessly, complementing each other quite well.

You can finish the game in one evening, but honestly, the gameplay loop gets dull fast, and the journey becomes pretty predictable. I wish they had cut it shorter because, as the story progresses, it starts to loop and shind your time just to stretch the playtime instead of keeping things fresh and engaging.

Some perks feel poorly thought out and even contradict each other at times. In the end, though, they’re just the cherry on top, adding to the RPG power fantasy of becoming an unstoppable force. I’m pretty sure you could beat the game without spending any perk points and you would be just fine.

I played on hard difficulty and only encountered a few unfair moments—mostly in duels. But ultimately, brute force gets you through everything since the game isn’t all that difficult.

I just wish the perks were more thoughtfully designed, the gun selection was broader, and the secrets felt more rewarding. Instead, you mostly get Wikipedia-style lore dumps and some XP to level up. (There’s even a perk that alerts you to nearby secrets, but it’s 99% useless.)

Overall, if you’re into shooters or just love the idea of a western cowboy-style power fantasy, it’s worth a try.

What can I say? The game is poor.

The combat is outdated and not enjoyable; it consists of you smashing the left-click and spamming the spacebar when you sense an upcoming attack or kite around until your summons do the work for you.

You can skip dialogue if you are a fast reader, but doing so will skip the entire dialogue, which is also hidden behind four dialogue screens. Thus, you won't skip just the part that you read but the entire conversation, leading to missing context.

The world is not open, and if you want to explore every small detail and every little hut (of which the game offers a lot), you have to prepare to endure a lot of loading time. Even with the game on an SSD, you'll load in a minimum of 15-20 seconds, and then you also have to load out, which really kills the explorational sense of the game.

If you want to heal, you get thrown into a cutscene every time that is only skippable after 2-4 seconds.

Boss fights in this game are poor and nearly offer no mechanics.

This game could be great if it got a rework or refurbish that tackled the points which make the game poor; it's very dated and more or less a round of torture and endurance of how much crap someone can handle before quitting the game.

You can not manually save and there are also no autosaves, you can save at checkpoints and in the starting area you are somewhat flooded with checkpoints, but when combat is getting more anoying and the maps are getting more far streched savepoints seem to dissapear and if you fail you lose 10-15 minutes of progress depending on when the last time was when you saved or IF you remebered to save at all.

Oh, and the story is "look at booba haha" to put it in a nutshell, and the bard is an arrogant ass stereotype with a given choice of being more of an ass or a nicer one.

I tried giving the game a second chance, but there is nothing to gain but pain and suffering.

I am bad at writing revies for I dont follow a structure of a common review 04.07.21

So, Dungeons n Dragons: Dark Alliance...
I,ve seen people compare it to Warhammer Vermintide and they have a completly wrong expectation and view on this game,
if you had to compare the game it would be "LotR war in the north" or "LotR The Return of the King " and not Vermintide, they are simply differant game and people got them mixed up.

Anyway I think this game has potential but in its curent state it feel more like a beta that needs testing.

What it got right is the voice acting and I imagine the game can be fun with some fixing effort.

But here ist the big BUT, curently I find more points that keep me away from playing the game because it plays like a broken garbage bin that cries when you open it to put garbage inside it.

In a game that is centered around melee combat you really just dont want to precipitate in it because its clunky and gives a bad feedback, the hit box is broken as well, I remember many times getting hit by 4 pixel stuff that one shot me or took away 90% of my HP bar that flew a meter past my character, also shockwaves from enemys and other AoE stuff is handled poorly aswell as is your own Hitbox towards enemys.

Then there is the thing about Combos, the game rarely functions as it should and some moves give poor feedback or function not at all even if done corectly, it more feels like some moves happen randomly instead of intentionally, thus interupting the gameflow and making you mad because your character is not doing what he should be, thus making combat an awful thing since you only smash some buttons and hope for the best since intentional button pressing is deceided by random if it actually will work.

For example the "TEAMATTACK" that consists of two buttons actually always ended up triggering my special skills and rarely the attack it was supposed to be

Then there is a feature of a the Drow that allows assassination on stamina broken targets that usually wont happen because you "combo" the target out of it because you cant stop mid animation or some one else from the party interupts it or even better, you get hit mid animation and simply stop.

Ah well there are more points to tackle on but at this point it would appear as it was whining.

So lets move to the poor console port that this game is.

I got smashed in the face right at the option menu trying to adjust the slider bar, you cant simply mouse drag it, you have to induvidually click so the meter moves by 1 into the wished direction you want it to be.

Also the game lacks a variety of communication options, you have only one curently and it is "voicechat" and some people neither dont want to participate in it due to shyness or missing equipment or simply because they dont feel like it.

YOU DONT GET THE OPTION TO TYPE ON THE PC VERSION and this is a big hit in the face, like honestly how hard can it be to dedigate a chat button.

it all seems so lazy and bad, like you are supposed to play a beta game you payed too much for and you dont get the simplest quality of life features like a dedicated hotkey for chat nor proper mouse controll.

Enough of that, lets talk about Quickplay, I think its not properly thought out and needs fixing, I dont see how it can be fun for anyone from the party when a lvl 1 character joins a group of lvl 20ys since he will get oneshot and acts more like a burden because the lowlever cant deal dmg anyway and vice verca.

Honestly I think the game has potential if it gets some work put into it, because curently it feels like a money grab.
They also should rework some features that could work on the PC version simply because the technology allows it, dont limit the game to console standarts please.
If combat gets reworked so it feels great then this game could actually become fun (talking about proper hitbox and combo movesets)

If I had to value the game I wouldnt spend the fullprice, it plays as if it was a bad beta console port and I would value it at 14€ as a fair price, other than that just wait out for some patches, maybe they will actually fix this game and make it a fun and viable thing

So Im writing this review at gunpoint because the steam awards are forcing me to do that.

Honestly this is just a placeholder for a future upcomming review that is worth the value of this great game.

In its curent state I have the feeling that the devs are trying to spit directly into my face by bringing out such an awful update when everything before hand was fun and viable.

Never take an idea for gold when it is in fact garbage.
