There are lots of negative reviews citing the performance issues and bugs/crashes, so I just want to put my voice in to offset those and say that I have had none of these same issues. The game has run well on my medium-OK PC and I comfortably built up to a city with a population of ~150,000 in the vanilla game.

My initial response to the game as a whole is positive, but weakly so. After enjoying Cities 1 a lot both in vanilla and with mods (with most of the "important" DLC), I was excited to see how the new changes impacted the gameplay loop. I bought the game ~1 month ago (September 2025), and I knew right off the bat that I was getting more or less the same product I already had. However, with the addition of the new (free) content in the first DLC and the past 2 years of development, I believe there's enough here to justify CS2 as a new title. It's still the same game, just more polished, streamlined, and fun, IMO. Many of my major gripes with CS1 (power lines and road construction wonkiness, to name a few) are mostly ironed out, and I found that I spent more time actually considering how my city was being built and evolving over time. This is especially complemented by the larger and more granular building area available in this game. All in all, I would recommend the vanilla game to someone who either a) enjoyed CS1 but has gotten bored of its gameplay loop or b) is interested in trying either CS1 or CS2 and doesn't know which to get.

P.S. I only recently tried to use mods in CS2, but from my very limited experience it seems that most of what you'd expect from CS1 is available here too. So, I don't think it's worth commenting on much.

pure crack cocaine "number go up" game. i have been playing for about 3 weeks and have only since closed this game to play something else, just so my numbers can keep going up in the background. sure there are a lot of incentives to spend real money so some may call it a cash-grab, but there's enough extra content tacked on like daily/weekly quests, a pretty in-depth pet system, and an entire hero-collecting autobattler subgame to make this fun and engaging for at least 30 minutes per day (plus checking back every little bit to buy some new buildings/upgrades)

it takes a special type of studio to release a game with more content than the original in early access. there is hope yet for games!

incredibly fun and replayable roguelike autobattler and the only roguelike i've bothered to climb the ascension ranks for (just beat the last one!). it follows the typical 3-act roguelike structure with elites, shops, potions, secret final boss, the works. for as many unique heroes with unique abilities and unique items as there are, this unsuspecting game is exceedingly polished and balanced. and somehow, it just gets more fun with every run :)

Beautifully designed. A surprisingly deep but not complex story alongside fluid, mechanics-heavy gameplay carry this game the first time through, which is maybe only 3 hours long. Even for just that one playthrough, the price of entry is definitely worth it. I went through and also got the gold speedrun medal after another ~20 hours of gameplay and got every achievement. Even more worth it if you love that sort of stuff. Hands down the best game in the time-slowing cyberpunk ninja assassin genre.

100 hours later and I'm top 20 on speedrun.com (quicksilver_). It's okay.

I played ~100 hours around the Artifacts 2.0 update, pre-1.0. It was pretty good then, but it didn't particularly stand out to me. I came back at the anniversary update (post-1.0) and dumped another 100 hours in in about two weeks getting every character skin (beating the game on the hardest difficulty with every character). Wow. The second time around, this game stuck with me and continues to blow me away with how polished, replayable, and utterly fun it is. The only flaw it has is that it doesn't let me clone myself to play it more. 11/10.

EDIT: praise bungus

Getting Over It is a game about just that. Getting over it. And despite this game being seemingly meaningless, I'm going to try to make a story out of it.

We, the players, are inside the main character's psyche. He is dealing with something difficult in his life. The green background of the first area, with objects strewn all over, resmebles the aftermath of a storm. Inside his mind. Something needs to be gotten over. The mountain, obviously, is the event that happened. The hammer is willpower. It guides you, and can push your forward or back. The pot full of water is hope. Notice that however much water spills out, there is always some left. The pot and its water are always with you. You always have hope.

Never believe that any task is impossible. That any river is uncrossable. That any mountain is impassable.

You just need to sit down, with your hope and willpower, and realize that you too will be Getting Over It.

(Also I have reasonable evidence to believe that the main character is Vladimir Putin)

This game is definitely for different types of people. There are some who play through it a few times, say for 20 hours, and think they've experienced everything. And, truth is, they probably have. But they don't see past the superficial veil into the realm of replayability. Playing with different leaders, each time on a different map, proves (for me) to be a wonderous experience. Then you can jump online with a few friends and pit your civilizations against each other.

Overall, I have to say that I personally reccomend this game. But like I said, the experience varies from person to person.

i wrote a review recommending this game all the way back in 2016, before i knew how to get mods (in the days before steam workshop...), and my recommendation has only gotten stronger. i'm a fan of turn-based strategy games but generally stayed away from RTS games because i felt that their requisite skill floor was higher than i could offer, especially in the micromanagement department. however, this game--both the original w/ expansion and the mods--is such a fantastic mix of easy-to-digest tactical and quasi-grand strategic gameplay that it's perfect for someone who doesn't want to try to max apm until their fingers turn to dust.

the modding community is not only alive but thriving especially well for a game this old, with suites of unique mods each bringing their own take on changing gameplay mechanics at every scale of the game. the dedication of this community to the canon of star wars is truly immense. despite that, the game is accessible to strategy fans who have only even heard of star wars. as long as you can wrap your head around the difference between a regular laser cannon and a turbolaser, you're capable of enjoying this game.

the graphics, audio, and user interface have aged very well. this game is from a time before cluttered menus and information overload (though if you load into a modded galactic conquest game with little to no experience, the initial state of the galaxy can be a lot to take in). this is especially the case with the addition of mods: custom unit models, a plethora of audio gathered from the far reaches of star wars media, and the relative simplicity of small expansions to the game's already intuitive UI make this title easy to pick up, but very hard to put down. the "galaxy conquering" itch of, e.g., stellaris comes into full force here; it's very easy to find yourself lost in a 6 hour play session and still be at the edge of your seat.

all in all, this is a triumph of RTS games. i highly, highly recommend this game for any strategy fan or anyone with even a passing interest in star wars lore. do yourself a favor and try out the mods. it really doesn't get any better than this. 10/10

ps: every planet you conquer in this game generates 71 gamer cred. so, that's something to consider
