This is honestly one of the most fun RTS games I've played in recent memory, my favorite to come out in the last 5-10 years. As far as games in this genre go, it's easy to learn and hard to master, which is great! I love the gameplay, I love the music, and the storytelling is pretty charming as well. I played the original 8-Bit Armies and sincerely, it is an upgrade in all the right ways.

It does not feature as playable any of the factions from 8-Bit Hordes or 8-Bit Invaders!. Not yet, at least, or for the foreseeable future. For some, this is a good thing, for others, they'd like more factions, new ones if not the old ones to come back. Speaking for myself, I look forward to what comes next, but I am also enjoying the game as it is right now just fine.

With the decision to force account linking reversed, I am changing my review. This is no longer a negative review.

This game is honestly really good. It's not perfect by any means, but it is a lot of great fun. I received it as a gift from my partner so we could play together, and while I didn't care for it at first, over time it grew on me. It is very, very silly, and I want to see the game grow.

Preferably without more of Sony's hamfisted attempts to drive up numbers on their network. No more of those, please.

It may take some time to fully rebuild that trust. Arrowhead is not entirely blameless in this; even the CEO admitted they could have and should have been more clear that was coming. Many people, myself included, didn't expect it. Nonetheless it is good that the decision is no longer going forward as of right now. Let us be sure it never does.

In the meantime, I'm happy to keep shooting bugs and bots in the name of Super Earth.

So, I bought this months to a year before I could even play it because it was promoted on Sarna.net news – that's the BattleTech/MechWarrior wiki, for those not in the know – as a love letter to the aforementioned MechWarrior games, especially MechWarrior 2 and 3. It definitely has an old-school feel to it, which admittedly felt a bit awkward to me after playing MechWarrior Online and MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries for a few weeks, but it does show promise, for what it is.

It's definitely still very unfinished, and I don't know what development is looking like these days. The general feel of the game in its current state, to me, seems to embrace the inherent absurdity of using mechs for warfare, as it doesn't have that grimdark-ish feel of the BattleTech universe. But as far as raw gameplay is concerned, it frankly has everything I've ever looked for in a mech game; it is as another reviewer describes, Legally Distinct MechWarrior.

With some polish, this could easily be a great alternative option for those who prefer the old school MechWarrior games. Some have argued it already is. More than anything, though, I'm happy to see that other mech games exist that replicate what I want in a mech game. Until now, the only such games to really do that that I'm aware of has been the MechWarrior games and other BattleTech products. I dunno... BattleTech video games just hit different for me.

This game is reasonably solid! As a fan of BattleTech products for nearly my whole life, this is the game that bridged the gap between the MechWarrior series I grew up with and the tabletop game that started it all. Although I should warn ahead that those expecting a pure tabletop BattleTech experience will be thoroughly disappointed, it's a decent turn-based tactics game in its own right, and certainly worthy of its title. The story is probably the most compelling BattleTech story I've played through since MechWarrior 4: Vengeance when I was a child. It's because of this game that I had gained at least a vague understanding of the tabletop game at all before I began to properly learn how to play that with some friends and family.

However, the multiplayer mode could use some additional options. You're limited to only 'Mechs and equipment that was generally available throughout the Inner Sphere in 3025, up to some years before the Clan Invasion began; meaning weapons, 'Mechs, and equipment that were considered LosTech during this period is not available for use here. The multiplayer mode also could use additional gametypes/scenarios beyond a simple deathmatch between lances, and maybe an option for a third player to fight in a three-way battle. That being said, however, I'm enjoying myself just fine; it's a good day when you can get an Atlas to fly for the first time since MechCommander 2, although I don't know if you can do that for some Atlas models in MechWarrior Online as well... I'll have to look into that one day.

Overall, it's a promising game, and I really enjoy it. As I'm playing this on a computer that's incapable of running any game in the MechWarrior series, I very much miss being able to pilot these 'Mechs myself rather than simply give them orders, but my love for strategy games is enough for me to take this one for everything it's worth. It'd be nice if it had more features, and maybe some tech from later in the BattleTech timeline, but it's good enough for this die-hard fan. Maybe you'll enjoy it too.

Alright, so Undertale is a bit of a special game for me. It's actually part of two genres I'm not particularly fond of: Bullet Hell and Turn-Based RPG. I enjoy both genres by themselves very rarely. I never expected I would enjoy a game that was both, and it was honestly a blast.

Admittedly, it has been well over a year since I last played it. There's a reason for that, though, and if you're someone who's played the game yourself, you'll know why. First, let's talk about the all-important gameplay.

Gameplay
As I previously stated, this is a Turn-Based RPG that is also a Bullet Hell game. But what does that mean, exactly? Well, it has all the elements of a classic turn-based RPG; the bullet hell side of the gameplay doesn't exist until you're defending from an attack by an enemy. How much damage you take is based on how many enemy attacks you dodged, to the point where you can even take no damage at all. The bullet hell comes in a variety of flavors throughout the game. Sometimes, the enemy attacks aren't bullet hell at all, but turn into something else entirely, like a brief platforming segment or a shoot-em-up. These deviations from the bullet hell style of attack are mostly limited to boss fights, however; for regular enemies, you can usually expect regular bullet hell attacks, though each "bullet" usually takes a shape and behavior that is thematically appropriate to the enemy.

A deviation from traditional turn-based RPG gameplay is the ability to spare enemies. Sparing enemies is distinct from the ability to flee in that you are rewarded with in-game currency, which can be used in shops to buy better equipment, and with many enemies, cannot successfully be used immediately. Part of progressing with this mechanic is finding the conditions in which each enemy will be willing to be spared, usually through using another mechanic that deviates from traditional gameplay, the Act mechanic, which as the name implies, enables the player to perform certain actions that affect an enemy's ability and/or willingness to fight them. In this sense, it becomes something of a puzzle game along the way, and indeed, there are some puzzles that need to be solved to progress should the player choose to go this route. If they choose to kill everyone they see instead, as would be expected of traditional RPGs, there are far fewer puzzles to solve.

Next, let's talk about the story a bit.

Plot
There's an opening scene explaining a bit of the backstory for the world of the game. To put it briefly, monsters and humans were once friends. At some point, war broke out between them; the monsters lost the war and were banished to a place known as the Underground, and were never seen on the surface world again. Then a human child falls into a hole at the top of a mountain that leads straight to the Underground. That human child is the player character, and that is where the story begins.

The player character wakes up on a patch of flowers, and is greeted by a talking flower known as Flowey... and the less I say about this encounter, the better. It's been said before, and it should be said again; this game is better played completely blind.

Doing my best to avoid spoiling anything, however, I will say that the story is a masterpiece. The characters are quirky, but lovable, and at no point did I want to hurt any one of them. In my one and only playthrough, I went full pacifist, something I rarely do in games.

So... How about the graphics?

Graphics
The graphics are exactly what they look like. 2D pixel art. Admittedly, this had become somewhat ubiquitous for a time within the indie scene, with the likes of this game and Shovel Knight taking center stage on many indie gamers' minds, and many others such as Rogue Legacy and Axiom Verge. As a bit of an old-school gamer, one of my first games being Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, I don't mind this style, and honestly, it works for the kind of game this is.

The world is full of literally colorful characters, which all turn monochrome when engaged in combat. Some characters even animate slightly during battle, most such characters being bosses. Each character is designed in a way that you can usually tell what their personality is just by looking at them, but leaving just enough a mystery that you can still learn much more about them simply by interacting with them, in or out of combat.

So let's talk about the music.

Music
The game's soundtrack was composed by a variety of artists, and all of them are amazing. You've got pianos, chiptunes, and whatever "Megalovania" qualifies as. I'm not an expert on music by any stretch of the imagination, but I know a good soundtrack when I hear one. Something I've heard said in other reviews of the game is, if nothing else, play it for the music. I could not agree with that statement more.

There are some things that bother me about the soundtrack, though. There are tracks in the game that don't exist in the album, which can be bought separately. Granted, some of them are associated with easter eggs within the game, but I personally would have loved to have the whole thing available on my music player. Oh well.

Conclusion
Undertale is a wonderful work of art, if video games can be considered such. It's very clear that a lot of TLC from everyone in development went into creating it. I highly recommend playing this game at least once.

I give it a 10/10. Best turn-based RPG I've ever played.

Stellaris is an absolutely wonderful game. I speak as someone who has never played a Paradox game before in my life... Well, that's not true; I played Battletech, but not very much of it, despite my undying love for that franchise. Need to get back to that at some point.

It has a bit of a learning curve, admittedly, and like most 4X games, it's long and involved; games like these will take several hours on one playthrough. You never get the same game twice, either; there's lots of random elements to keep things interesting, and fortunately, none of them undermine player skill so far as I can see.

I came in at around version 2.2.6. The game has some bugs, some of which are proving very difficult for the devs to crush. Therefore, the game is anything but perfect. On top of that, looking at the game's history, the devs have a habit of overhauling things that people seem to prefer left alone; I heard a few people complaining about changes made starting with 2.2. I wasn't there, so I don't know how much better or worse the game was at the time, so I can only speak about my experience with the present version of the game, and I'm having a blast. You know you've done something right when someone puts 200+ hours into a game within weeks of buying it. I can honestly say that I look forward to what comes next.

P.S. Machines rule!

This game is hard as adamantium nails. The margin for error is EXTREMELY small, even at the easiest difficulty, and only gets smaller as you go higher in difficulty. Who knew a game about a mere geometric shape could be so hard to beat? It's deceptively simple, but very, very hard to become good at. I still haven't beaten it. Regardless, it's a pretty fun (but frustrating!) game to play if you're interested in sinking some time into avoiding (or failing to avoid) quickly advancing walls that will punish you any chance they get. Just be warned, if you're prone to seizures or something due to flashing colors, this game probably isn't for you.
