Had this in my library for a while, finally decided to give it a whirl. Just like that, 2 hours gone. Scratches all the right itches.

Also runs great on Linux (I use Arch btw)

Genuinely a good game but the combat is an exercise in frustration, especially in 1v2 or greater scenarios, which happen all the time as part of random encounters. Absolutely horrible game design. There's no apparent slotting mechanics or anything like that so if you get ambushed by four bandits they can just waylay you and stunlock you immediately. You're fighting the controls the entire time because the guy who you're focused on isn't the guy who is going to attack next. The only way to get yourself an advantage is to cheese the fight with positioning and abuse master strikes.

Realistic? Maybe. Good game design? Absolutely not. It's so prevalent in the game even ~20 hours in when I have decent stats and equipment that despite liking the game, I genuinely cannot recommend it because whoever designed combat encounters clearly never once worked in tandem with whoever designed the combat mechanics. And that's a huge, glaring flaw on an otherwise great game.

I have to echo the negative sentiment for this expansion too unfortunately.

It's not that it's bad; it's just aside from a new faction and a new map, there's really not a lot that it adds that's meaningful. Sure, there's ships now, but you can ignore that largely and still expand just fine.

And there are certainly parts that are still underdeveloped, and some things that clearly missed QA, like the Shipyard town upgrade still not having a text description.

The base game is in a pretty good state, but this DLC is basically an early access 0.1 release.

Solid game, definite upgrade over Warband in most regards. Even just vanilla with a few QoL mods really rounds out the experience. Really satisfying combat especially at higher difficulty levels where skill makes more of a difference than spamming attacks. Most crashes I've had in 40 hours have been specific mods that I haven't really felt were necessary by any means so I just disabled them.

Seemed interesting but not sure what it brings to the table that's unique.

Maybe it gets better with time but it runs so poorly with all kinds of weird hitches (yes, it's on an SSD, etc) that I'm just not gonna bother with it when there's other games in the genre, without silly mobile game grinds to boot.

It does look nice so give 'em that at least.

Cannot tell you how much just playing the first game is scratching an itch I forgot I had.

I did play these as a kid so there's that nostalgia factor of "OH YEAH THIS ROOM", etc.

Honestly having played with tank controls I still enjoyed the modern controls more. I knew exactly why I'd miss a jump or whatnot.

Fantastic remasters

Not really worth it compared to other subscription-based games now that the subscription price is increasing (AGAIN!). Keep in mind the subscriptions for OSRS are per-character. Sure there is a good amount of content in OSRS but a lot of it is also clearly artificially padded out. Modern game basically requires a Wiki tab open which is also a boring way to play. I don't even mean for min-maxing, I mean like some quests are literally impossible to figure out without the wiki.

Still better than RS3 which is VC slop, but frankly they made the mistake of listening to the loudest minority of their community (streamers et al) and the game isn't really for normal people with 9-5 jobs. Which yeah the entire 400+ hours I've spent on my character (including the 100+ I have logged on steam) has always felt like an abject waste of time in the back of my head.

So I guess if you want to play Runescape, choose between VC slop or nostalgia bait - both included in a subscription that's getting continually more and more expensive. Modern gaming is so great

I truly love the original game but it was, last I played, a little buggy and kludgy. So when the Relaunched version was announced, I was genuinely excited.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem like many of the original bugs were addressed meaningfully, if at all, and worse, it seems like they've downgraded some parts of the game, particularly visually. The new color grading is less saturated for some reason, and there's a jarring "light turning off" effect at the end of a Sol before it turns to night, not gradual at all.

It'd be one thing if it was a free update but it's not. Unfortunately I'm juuuust past the refund window. Here's to hoping some of the stuff does get fixed but a lot of this seems like it should have been QA'd, like, at all before release.

To their credit, there are a few UI improvements that seem nice, but it doesn't make up for everything else, unfortunately.

Combat isn't anything special and the story isn't really keeping me engaged but it still has some decent writing, a good setting, the TTD is a neat little system to give yourself a significant edge in some fights. Fun characters and environmental storytelling, loot everywhere, even in little nooks and crannies, really rewarding thorough exploration. Runs fine on my PC and looks great. Have not had any technical issues whatsoever.
