Chapter 4 was peak. Beating a titan, almost dying, and coming home to.. that. Man you gotta love Toby Fox. Absolute ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ cinema.

Here's a review for the first 2 hours I played this game.

It's lacking in so many aspects. To me, it seems like the developers focused more on fanservice rather than the story or the quality of the game. Each chapter seems very fast, to me the story's too short. A new day comes, you're faced with a problem -> cast magic -> meet girl -> fanservice -> end of day -> choice for girl. The choices don't even lead to different outcomes, it's the same outcome. When I saw the choices of using normal magic and EX magic, I thought there'd at least be a slight difference. No. It just raises the girl's affection.

Another thing is that there are way too many game over screens. I get that it was for comedic purposes, but imagine at least 7-8 game over screen per chapter. You didn't control your magic? Game over. You chose to be alone? Game over. You accidentally groped someone? Game ov- yeah I guess that makes sense. You get the point.

A few things I noticeably find irritating is the audio quality. From the start, it's very raspy. Compared to other games, the audio here is... yeah. It sounds very... echoey. Not very good. There's also these hearts that randomly appear on your screen. If you click them in time, you raise the affection of one of the girls. But it's very frequent, making it feel like a clicker game instead of a dating sim game. It gets pretty annoying fast.

For a game with a decent price tag, I'd say get other similar games with similar prices. This game still needs so much polishing.

EDIT: I’ve just finished the game, 100% completion on all chapters. Even so, I still find it hard to recommend.

In the later chapters, there are choices that seem to lead to different outcomes, but ultimately, the result is the same. The ending doesn’t change. Even in the final chapter, I honestly felt the conclusion didn’t live up to expectations.

There’s a "Memories" screen where you can view exclusive photos of the actresses, but unlocking them requires completing five puzzle levels. Personally, I skipped the puzzles. I’m not going to waste my time clicking and sliding blocks just to see a few pictures, some of which are taken directly from in-game scenes. Imagine having to finish a 4x4 puzzle in four minutes. Maybe I just suck. I don’t know. Okay so I ended up doing all the puzzles. Curse you my curiosity. But I still don't agree about the pictures being locked behind puzzles.

So far i'm liking this game. The story is very long but it's really interesting. It's not just your typical love story, there are some fantasy involved but it's nothing too fictional. Although there are some minor bugs with the subtitles, but it's nothing that'll affect your experience. What's unique is that the male MC has 6 voices to choose from, which means you won't be bored with that same voice all over again. Another cool feature is that the video playback can be sped up by 2x even if you haven't seen the scene, so you can pretty much skip unwanted parts of the video.

In total, there are 9 chapters in this game, with each chapter being around 30 minutes depending on how fast the playback is. Small spoiler which is also a fair warning, all inner character scenes are a bit sus, with one being unlocked the end of chapter 7, so be sure to have your earphones plugged in. A bit NSFW, and there's some sounds although the sounds are pretty small. Probably not a good idea to play this with your mom in the room, then again why would you play a game like this with family members present anyway? Eh, though it might be hard if you don't have- wait why am I rambling this on the review page? lmao mb Ye Shu ftw btw

The acting is pretty good, though there are some parts that could be cringe for some people (not for me though), but it's still good. Some scenes being very funny and some scenes being very emotional, each actress plays the part really well. And if you've seen a familiar face here, you're not seeing wrong. One of the girls here also played in a similar game called, "My Destiny Girls."

Overall I'd say it's worth the price.

on a more serious note, game itself is pretty good. Subtitles have minor mistakes but that doesn't impact the overall experience as it still makes sense. Lots of routes are available too with the amount of characters. Didn't expect the candy crush minigame but it was a fun addition, makes the game not monotone with just story and gives more engagement to players. And if you were expecting Yua to speak Chinese, sorry to disappoint, but she still speaks Japanese in this game (which is better than Chinese dub i guess.) (edit: some subtitles seem to be missing, for example when calling Cindy during Kana's chapter.)

Story-wise, i still prefer how Knowledge, or know Lady or Love is All Around presents each game's story. They start off not knowing the heroines, and their relationship progresses with each chapter. Here, it's more of we know who the heroines are, and each route is just each story on finding the ring. Again, this is just a preference. E̶a̶c̶h̶ r̶o̶u̶t̶e̶'s̶ a̶l̶s̶o̶ p̶r̶e̶t̶t̶y̶ s̶h̶o̶r̶t̶ c̶o̶m̶p̶a̶r̶e̶d̶ t̶o̶ o̶t̶h̶e̶r̶ g̶a̶m̶e̶s̶. Some of the routes are short, but routes such as Jialin Jiang's route is actually pretty long. This seems to make sense as the plot of Drive Me Crazy takes place within a day, so short routes are to be expected.

After isolating myself for 5 whole days only playing this game and not talking to my irl friends, I can safely say this game gave me a wonderful experience also known as depression. Story was as amazing as the original as this is only a remake, but new elements made the game more interesting than before. Graphics tbh wasn't as great as Automata, but it got the job done.

But really, this game is very depressing. But it's really good. Kinda conflicting with each other, but the depression makes a great story, and damn even though I'd be depressed, I'd keep playing this game just for the story. (Seems like recurring thing, but why do most good JRPG games have a fishing mechanic? Maybe it's just my imagination.)
