The experience you have with Doom Eternal is dependent on what difficulty you play and here's the general guide if you are new to Doom:
I'm Too Young to Die
You could beat this easily if your even moderately good at FPS games
Hurt Me Plenty
You're looking for an easy time but not so easy that you're basically immortal.
Ultra-Violence
Only recommended for people who are looking for a challenge and are moderately good at FPS Games
Nightmare
Similar to the rule of Ultra-Violence how ever you will be needing to pay way more attention to things like dodging, only recommended for above average skill players. (Not to say that you have to be that good but if you aren't that good you wont have a fun time.)
Ultra-nightmare
The difficulty is the same as nightmare but you only have one life, and you can't get 1-ups. I can only recommend this to people who are either really good at FPS games or have a lot of time to waste and don't mind all of their progress to be erased in seconds.
Extra life and Sentinel Armor are really just a spin on the original modes so just look into them if you want to play them or not.
