It's not a big secret that I LOVE spider people. In fact, I may love them a little too much. That, or that's my pride kicking in whenever someone wants to change arachnids in SS14. Really that shouldn't bother me anymore: I'm banned, gone, doneso. But weirdly I cannot hold back my sorrow whenever something happens that could affect the current state of them! I've fallen in love with my creation just the way it is, and any other modification to them would be disastrous to my emotions!

What doesn't really hurt me as much (but still annoys me) is that people think arachnids in SS14 have 4 eyes. Like sure, the arachnid sprite may not be clear, but SURELY you see arachnid organs on the ground at least ONCE in your life and realise "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, they have 8 eyes!" Sure I could've made the sprite a bit clearer... no I couldn't have that ♥♥♥♥ looks way too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid lmao.

Anyways, enough with my ranting about a game I don't even play anymore, what are Pixel's arachnids?

Well, to me, the perfect arachnid looks like this [drive.google.com].

Now there's a few questions that you may be asking, like "Why only two hands?", "Are those chelicerae? Why are they so small?" and "What's hiding behind that censor box?" (Note: I do not get paid to draw NSFW. Do not ask me (I mean why would you? My art isn't the best.)) All of these questions will be answered later in time, as long as I don't start another rant midway explaining, then you'll probably have to wait a long while.

At the beginning, my arachnids were made for this fork of SS14 (well actually, it was a fork of Outer Rim 14, which was a fork of SS14) called Combat Rim 14. This eventually got scrapped in place of Thanatophobia (An actual hard-fork of SS14) which also got scrapped because I couldn't port the new uuid thing. Here, they only had two hands for two reasons. One: I believed having more than two hands is ASS to play. Two: Adding more hands didn't feel "original" to me. I stood by those two points, even if others thought otherwise. The reason I still prefer them to have two hands is because it's what I'm used to.

I think now I don't mind them having 4 hands (6 hands is too many still), yet I think I prefer them if the extra hands were just attached to small arms. Not a heavy requirement! Also get rid of two of the appendages, it's a spider with 8 legs, not to be confused with a 10 legged creature of sorts. Example of 4 hands shown here [drive.google.com]

I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate drawing these. They never turn out right in my opinion - which I guess is a skill issue on my part. Anyways these can be small, to mimic little pointy vampire teeth for cuteness value, or larger, for the danger value.

While I'm on the topic of vampires, why is there some people who think spiders are bloodsuckers. I don't get this? This is stupid. At most, there's a jumping spider which feeds on mosquitoes that carry blood. This is the best you're ever going to get.

Anyways there isn't much to mention here aside from that little ball of knowledge I decided to throw. I guess the only thing I could note is that if you're going to draw them spitting web, do it from the mouth - It's the most SFW and sensible way I could think of doing this without adding new parts to the spider.

Arachnids are sexless. This was a characteristic developed when I was working on them in SS14 and someone mentioned to make them sexless so that I didn't have to sprite female sprites. This eventually became arachnid canon. Some forks and EVEN SS13 SERVERS (yes, my spiders were sent back to the stone age, I'm so proud) gave them two sexes. They're boring. Don't be like them.

Anyways for the artist: They can reproduce because they are hermaphrodites (they possess both sex organs). If you REALLY want to draw this, you can figure out the anatomy of that yourself. Good luck.

Here is where we use our best.... erm.... "friend?". Google Translate. Arachnid names are usually a combination of two latin words. It can mean anything, although I don't mind if you bend the rules a little. For all I care you can literally hit a hammer on your keyboard and choose your arachnid name that way.

The appendages of an arachnid can be unique to each arachnid. Some are curvy, some are zig-zaggy, and some can be considered a weapon. You are allowed to interpret the use of these to your own liking - They can be purely cosmetic, or they can be used as a way to crawl around on four legs (I'd say 6, but I'm not sure if using their legs alongside their appendages is advised here.)

You can also do some hook office (see: LoR or Limbus Company) shenanigans and turn them into actual weapons. I think that ♥♥♥♥ would be cool asf. DO THIS NOW!!! I NEED THIS!!!!!

This stuff is kind of important, but not enough to dedicate an entire header to.

Honestly, I don't care about the eye count. Make it four, six, ten, hell even two if you're feeling lazy.
