As someone who's played every Smash Bros., Destroy All Monsters: Melee, Soul Caliber and other fighting games: this one just ain't for me. It's not that the game sucks, It's just WAY too complex for me to play.

Now, does that mean I suck? Yes. Does that mean I could get better? Yes. Do I want to waste HOURS upon HOURS of my life to get good a game that, frankly, behaves temperamentally with my own inputs? HECK. NO.

Let me be clear that I love DC, I love the Injustice story arc, and I love literally EVERYTHING ELSE about this game (except the lipsync voice acting of the mouths....it looks 'ok'), but the combat, the CORE MECHANIC of this game, just isn't fun.

The AI ON EASY, MIND YOU, is oppressive for someone who's newer to the Mortal Kombat/Street Fighter genre of fighting games. But I never thought the AI was THIS oppressive to someone who just came into the game.

Also, I did end up finding the tutorials/learning area of the game (yeah, they don't throw you into a tutorial at the start of the story...you have to goto it and navigate the main menu to find it, NOT just give basic pointers in a STORY MODE), and trained for like 50 minutes, and unlocked some cool gear...too bad I'm never using it though, because after training for awhile, I lost again and again to Wonder Woman...THE 2ND FIGHT IN THE ENTIRE CAMPAIGN.

I eventually beat her, but I mean come on...I'm a newbie...I don't need to be tossed around like a ragdoll ON EASY DIFFICULTY!?

Mind you, I've played other kinds of hard-difficulty games, like Dark Souls' and Sekiro, or even something like Arkham Knight on Hard difficulty....and even THOSE games are fair, balanced, but challenging to the point of overcoming them.

This game just reeks BS AI, inconsistent button mapping/combo inputs, and just an overall hard to master system that I'm not about to blow off 40+ hours of my life JUST to get good at...I've already wasted my time on other games that I am also walking away from.

If you're hoping for a casual experience like I was hoping for (in the campaign AT LEAST), don't bother....this game is for seasoned veterans of MK or SF games alike.

I don't think the game's bad, I just can't bother wasting time getting guud at certain games anymore. It's ultimately a waste of time.

If you want a REAL challenge, then go for it! If not, best steer clear, friend.

Cheers.
EDIT: This game also has spyware built in, so that's another reason NOT to install it. Thanks, devs. Really love that you wanna know my secret identity...but it ain't Batman, I can tell ya that much

Let me begin this review by saying that I am currently doing the primary (main) bosses CO-OP ONLY. I do this with most souls games, except Bloodborne and Sekiro: I typically let my buddy show me the ropes and then I usually go back a second play-through and do it all solo, with NO phantoms (not even summons). He tends to avoid spoiling ANYTHING, and just allows me to discover things myself so as not to take away from the experience (unless it'll instantly kill me, like the Mimics in DS3, or a dragon's fire, etc.). But that is my way of doing it, and that's fine. So with that in minds let me break this down:

This game, unlike the other Soulsborne games in the franchises, is HUGE. And I don't mean just the map, but the scale of enemies, the amount of things to do, etc. It is a very, VERY big game.

I am 22 hours in (at the time of writing this review), and I have only beaten the first Major Story boss, Godrick. In this amount of time, I would be nearly done with the base game DS3, and would almost certainly be in Anor Londo AT LEAST, or beyond Dancer of the Boreal Valley (post Yhorm). This game has LOTS to do and LOTS OF THINGS in it.

For starters: your weapons (with the exception being boss weapons) are now slightly less unique in terms of weapon arts, that has been stripped away completely. Now, you have Ashes of War, which is essentially take ANY weapon archetype (sword, spear, great sword, axe, etc.) and apply ANY weapon art to it (some that returned for reference: Perseverance, War Cry, Parry, Stomp, Spin Sweep, etc.), along with all new ones! The one I'm using right now is a short-range magic projectile that then can be converted into a heavy thrust attack after firing, which can attach to ANY sword (at least). THAT IS INSANELY COOL and amounts to a really dynamic way/variety on how to approach situations. Things like this make the game play loop far less stagnate compared to Dark Souls 3.

Combat now has 3 methods to approach situations: stealth (which is still brain-dead like Sekiro, but without a guaranteed insta-kill), normal sword play, or going in charging on your horse Torrent (who can double jump!). It's all refreshing methods that can each pander to a playstyle that people can appreciate from any angle.

Bosses, holy crap...there are so many in this one...and I am including dungeon mini-bosses. Some end up being copy-pasted ones, but in my 14 hours of dungeon crawling mixed with story bosses, I have only seen like 1 repeat boss...which, is insane IMO. Unlike Bloodborne where you need to have access to dungeons both RNG made or static, this one is ALWAYS static, but just requires you to go exploring, thus rewarding the adventurous type that want to explore this vast open world.

Consumables and throwables are also made slightly more complex now: before where the world and vendors just shoved consumables and throwables in your pockets from easy farming, now you have to gather and craft. CRAFT CRAFT CRAFT! I cannot emphasize this enough: it took me 12 hours to realize that I needed to get my hands on ALL the crafting books if I intended to get some of the better consumable and throwable items in the game. This does not, however, translate the same case for upgrade mats. You can't just craft the upgrades, you have to farm/find/buy those still. Nothing wrong in either case, just a note.

I have much more to say that makes this game so good, but I'll close off by saying this: there is a lot to do in this game, and I have only scratched the surface!

Would definitely recommend to any Demon Soulsborne: Die Twice fans out there. It is a new monster to master.
Good luck, fellow Tarnished, may grace guide thee! (And may the flames guide thee).

Elden Ring, O, Elden Ring but you don't have the right...

Let me just say this: when this game WANTS to work, it's fun.

HOWEVER, I must make clear that while I do enjoy playing the game when it works, the game DOES NOT WORK 99% of the time. Latency, De-sync, call it what you want: the rhythm and fundamentals of Halo are gone.

The PvP is so wishy washy now, that I can easily tell when a game will go in our favor or won't. How? Because of desyncing issues. There's a 50/50 chance that the game you connect and play in will have desync issues, resulting in hitting nothing but air when you're CLEARLY hitting an enemy/opponent.

Such a waste of time and effort, not to mention that the XP grind is a joke. Until 343 adds Forge, more stability and a FAR LESS aggravating UI, this game is just absolute trash.

Don't waste your time....not yet.

Been following this game since greenlit, and this game has come a LONG way.

Originally this game was a Newground flash game dubbed Project Nexus, and was regularly updated.

But man, this game has been in dev hell and back. About 3 or 4 years ago was when the preorders for the greenlight project began, and I have watched this game change, devolve, then evolve into something monstrously cool.

Been a fan of this series since I was like 13 years old, and this game delivers on all of those components, and in 3D!

Love the work Krinkel, Swain and the GIBBING TREE, LLC. You folks delivered a lot to people yearning for an epic project; a Project Nexus 2.
Cheers.

If you're new to the series, enjoy this polished gem of what the REAL Madness series feels like.

After beating this both prior to, and after Beyond Light's launch, do I recommend this DLC?

At base price, HELL. NO. This DLC was small, had only like 2 activities worth doing (one of them being an overworld repeatable activity for grinding Prime and Umbral Engrams), and Garden of Salvation. Everything else in this campaign was tedious, over-bearing, and needed to stop beating around the bush.

What drives people insane even more is now that Beyond Light has dropped, everything from this DLC almost doesn't matter anymore. At first, it was due to sunsetting gear (which Bungie has taken in stride as a huge point they needed to REMOVE). But now, it's literally due to the sheer worthlessness of the expansion as a whole.

Prior to BL's launch, Shadowkeep was something that built anticipation; we didn't know what was gonna happen when we first encountered The Darkness: the very antithesis to The Light/The Traveler.
*SPOILERS SPOILERS*
What did we get instead? Oh, just the pyramids showing up to our solar system and bein' all like "ah, we are the same you and I...we are your salvation!"

Um...what?

The story ended just as swiftly as Season of the Chosen began....as soon as we finished the base game to Beyond Light after Season of the Hunt, and it turned into Seasonal-based operations, I knew this was a bad sign for the story-telling aspects of Bungie's IP.

It's no longer a continuation in narrative anymore...it's storytelling with HUGE gaps in between, or just unanswered questions, unless you just love reading lore books all day (which some people aren't going to like).

At any rate, Shadowkeep: do I recommend? If it's on sale, sure! I wouldn't spend more than 10 bucks on this feller...but you might not have a choice. You DO get Xenophage, Divinity, Deathbringer and Monte Carlo, but in the long run, it doesn't matter anymore: you can just grind for Spoils of Conquest and just buy them in the Monument of Lost Light at the tower now...so literally: no reason to play it anymore.

And don't even get me started with Forsaken....

Let me clearly state that I AM ENJOYING THIS GAME. But, for the fact that this game has been out for over 2 years now, and it's still in its current state, tells a lot about Ubisoft's development cycle for this game.

I am a gamer who likes to typically give an exception to bugs either because 1. it's funny as hell, and 2. it isn't game breaking.

I have already taken a screen capture of an infamous "floating tree" in the valley of Hope/Sinner County...and as much as it pulled me out of the "immersion" of the game's story, I still could care less. Why? Because I could laugh about it amidst the game's slightly disturbing overtone for the story.

The game's story is its stronger point, which is both good and bad. When there are in-game cutscenes (AND THERE ARE A LOT OF THEM), these are the moments the story flow the best and feel the most fluent and immersive. The characters feel so hollow and empty-threat when they are sending goons out to kill you...but when you encounter them face to face, it feels and plays by experiences similar to that to Far Cry 3, when you fought Vaas, or Hoyt, or Citra's Giant, etc. It all panders to a really compelling set of characters that are portrayed in such a manner that the game is enriched just by their presence (prodominently Faith and The Father). However, this then all falls out the flippin' window onto a bed of spikes laced with laughing poison when you have to engage in 'combat' during a story mission, when the AI is just a bunch of morons.

The AI from Far Cry has never been something that monumental or ground-shattering, but the variety in enemy types is what divided super easy enemies from the not-so-easy. I look at Far Cry 4, and think about how many enemy types there are in that game, and how Heli gunships would fly in, along with just the sheer vastness of the fortresses. There was a lot of verticality brought into the mix when Far Cry 4 introduced the varying placement of outposts and fortresses, and allowed the player to abuse the grappling hook item. Here, I throw a proximity bomb where enemies are sure to run towards after I shoot a guy. I shoot a guy, they know where it's coming from (without detecting me), run up there and I just move to the other vantage point across the way, and kill the rest while the bumbling idiot AI just waltzes straight into my proximity bomb! Stupid EZ. What happened to the fear that Far Cry brought out? Far Cry 3 always stands as the pinnacle to the series, as the characters were likable and hateable, the gameplay loop was satisfying yet grindy, and the weapons/enemy variety was enough to not drive you insane...then Far Cry 4 took those concepts AGAIN, put it in a BIGGER map, and basically turned it into a base-capturing simulator, but with a story around it.

Here, I feel none of those things, but a pandering backseat story to the extremes of zealous religious cults taking it to the max in America.

But to keep this review short and to the point, I'll say this: Am I enjoying the game? Yes, I most definitely am!
Do I recommend this game? Only on sale, and ONLY if you are willing to look past certain bugs (like I did). If you can't look past these things, you are gonna HATE this game.
Finally, is it worth the full price? HELL NO! Get this monster on sale, and consider the DLCs for another time. (got it for $9 bucks during the recent sales).

7/10 - Can't patch wounds like EVERY Far Cry 2+ games, so I am back to Call of Duty logic (heal by not getting shot for a bit).

The first 15 minutes seem a bit unnecessary, until you realize that this is just the tutorial and intro...once you become the shark for real, it's all an uphill battle from there, in the best way imaginable!

Skins, Mutagens, Mutations, Upgrade systems, and a mission/sidemission/collectathon XP system makes for a very entertaining and engaging gameplay loop.

My only gripe so far has been that enemies will respawn/despawn at a relatively unfair distance (i.e. I could start battling a Croc, and swim like 5 yards away, eat something, turn around, and the Croc has either come after me (which is good), OR it de-aggros me, swims back to where it was and despawns completely!).

If this was fixed/tweaked somehow, I think this would be a helluva game! Definitely not worth the 40 dollar mark, but definitely when it's on sale. Wish I'd paid 25 or 30 bucks for it, not 35 or so, but really: it's a 5 dollar difference, so I can't complain too much.

8/10, would listen again to Jerry from Rick and Morty explain how odd of a fish I am.

EDIT: Also, the game seems to crash at strange moments, but so far they aren't a big issue as it pretty much saves all your progress when you die/crash.

Take the elemental aspects weaknesses/damage of Borderlands, the loot pool of Destiny 2 (for aspects/essence mods, NOT ALWAYS for getting weapon drops), but with the gameplay and arcade FPS style of DOOM/DOOM Eternal, but set in a dystopian, sci-fi Japan where demons have risen to kill everything.

This is the kinda game where the best and most rewarding loot drops from Bunnies....you'll understand when you play it, TRUST ME.

Fun alone, probably more fun with friends!
