DISCLAIMER: I'm recommending the game itself, but I wouldn't nessecarily recommend buying it on steam.
As many other reviews have said, all the steam version does is launch the installer, which handles all the installation/updates, so you may as well buy it from the microsoft store. Many people are concerned that this will affect refund eligibility, though I can't speak on that for sure.(This is also partly why it's currently getting review-bombed) Also, If you're not sure if your pc can handle it, spend $1 on the xbox game pass and try it out first.

That being said, it's definitely the best looking flight sim I've seen to date. Even x-plane with mods doesn't come close in my opinion. The aircraft handling is also a big step up from FSX's "on-rails" feel, putting it on par with x-plane in that regard as well.

Performance is decent with my 7700k and 1080ti on high settings. The game seems to run between 30-50fps depending on where you fly. I have experienced some stuttering and freezing for up to 30 seconds at a time when loading in new scenery areas, but I suspect that's partly because I'm using a 7200rpm hard drive instead of an SSD.

There are also some bugs that need to be worked out, which I'm confident asobo will take care of soon (It took me several restarts of the game for my premium content to show up, for example). At this point it feels like an early access game. Great, but needs some time to work out the kinks

I've always wanted a flight sim that uses something like google maps for imagery, and now it's here, so I've gotten pretty much exactly what I'd always hoped for. If you're a flight sim fan, you've probably already bought the game, but if you're not sure if it's for you, it's at least worth getting on the game pass.

This is both the best looking and most polished VR experience I've had so far. The models, and environments look stunning, (even on the older rift-cv1 i played with) and just watching a youtube playthrough really doesn't do it justice at all. I was surprised at how long the game is, almost as long as half life 2.

Controlling the gravity gloves took a few minutes to get used to, but after awhile it feels more natural and convenient than trying to pick things up with just your hands. Having to manually reload weapons also felt like a chore at first but becomes second nature as you play the game. It also makes fire fights feel much more dangerous as you need to make sure your weapon is loaded before coming out of cover and engaging an enemy.
Learning to aim is also very important, as many enemies can be taken down with a few well placed shots. Some of the combine soldiers can be taken out by shooting a flammable gas tank on their back, which is really satisfying to pull off. It's also a lot of fun when you're crouched (yes, physically crouched) behind cover, a grenade rolls by, and you pick it up and toss it back at the enemy.

My only real disappointment with the game is the lack of melee combat. In a game where most objects can be picked up and makes you flail your hands around to do everything, it feels like a major oversight not to be able to bash in a headcrab zombie with a crowbar, or hurl a brick at them. Even the gravity gloves only allow you to pick up objects, rather than launch them like the gravity gun did in HL2.
One of my favorite parts is the "Jeff" chapter where throwing the random physics objects are actually useful for distraction. I thought that was a clever mechanic and wished the props could be useful during more of the game.

Overall though, once I got used to the combat style and lack of melee it feels very much like a half life game. Valve wanted to set the standard for future AAA VR games and they've definitely done that. Now they just need to make a portal vr and l4d vr :^)
