it's alright

This is genuinely one of the funnest Monster Collecting (or, well, Monstie collecting as the game would call it) RPGs that has come out in the last few years, it's quite well-made and charming, the Rock-Paper-Scissors-esque combat system that the game uses is deceptively simple, it might look like you would be fine just spamming whatever attack you last used until you win, like it can happen in some RPGs, but while the game itself isn't the most challenging thing in the world, you actually need to pay attention to what you're doing, read your opponent's patterns (that can range from extremely simple to harder to read but never unfairly so) and routinely take different approaches for all the different monsters you'll end up battling in the game, the transversal itself is also quite fun, you ride your monster around in quite a few overworlds, riding on your loyal monsters while doing such things as gathering, searching for eggs to hatch new monsters, and taking on the different monsters that you can find roaming, the game also has a pretty good looking cel-shaded style that makes up for some of the technical shortcoming it has (like the texture quality or the VERY poor folliage draw distance which results in notorious pop-in and can be quite distracting at times) and an audio department very similar to the one in the mainline Monster Hunter games, all in all the game is a pretty fun and well-made RPG that is completely worth the price, and that is worth checking out if you liked the first game, enjoy mainline Monster Hunter and want to try out a Mon-Collecting RPG set in the same universe, or if you aren't acquainted with the franchise itself but are just looking for a fun RPG to play.

It is important to note, if you're planning to play on PC (like you probably are if you're reading this review to begin with), that some machines (even some with beefier specs) can run into a few technical problems that haven't been fixed as of me writing this review, so before buying the game i recommend you try out the demo first so you can see if your machine runs into these problems and if they would impact your experience with the game before buying it.

P.S: Come on Capcom, how come you still haven't added a Pokemon-Amie type thing to the game? I wanna pet my monsters and feed them, dammit!
