Fun game, but bosses are just not fun. No gear other than weapons. Fights are extremely unrewarding.

Overall, I'm disappointed in this game. The first half of the game is needlessly difficult, while the second half is enjoyable. On commander difficulty, numerous restarts and/or loading are required to get past the inbalanced early game.

Positive:
- Gameplay is highly varied due to procedurally generated maps, randomness on the strategy layer, random continent bonuses, mission loot, etc.
- The strategy layer is much more forgiving. Contacts replace satellites, but your income doesn't exclusively come from monthly rewards.
- Much more challenging than XCOM:EU. No more reliance on overwatches. Enemies play more aggressively. You also have to take more risks, although there are nice abilities which complement those risky moves, such as the Ranger's implacable ability, which guarantees the first attack on him misses after he gets a kill, as well as the Specialist's Aid ability, which grants defense and a free Covering Fire on the unit.
- On Commander, it remained difficult throughout. Maybe it was just my bad luck, but late game I often fought 6 or more enemies at once.
- Most classes have two viable specializations instead of just one, as in XCOM:EU.
- Late game is rewarding once your units are upgraded and items are gained. Getting several kills with your sniper in one turn using Serial is fun.
- Enemies are terrifying. The sectopod is especially well done.

Negative:
- No XBox controller support. I was looking forward to playing this on my TV. I'm not a fan of the Steam Controller.
- Mission timers make some missions impossible without having prior knowledge of enemy positions, with failure resulting in the loss of your whole party. Even while sprinting toward the objective, multiple enemy spawns will slow you down. Facing 4 spawns in 12 turns while travelling across the entire map is very difficult.
- Spawns tend to path together, often resulting in engaging 2-3 packs at once. On timed missions, you're unable to retreat to cover, so your tactics are limited.
- Many A.I. units are suicidal, going for stuns or melee hits at their peril.
- A.I. also cheats during conceilment. I've had 4 packs converge on me during conceilment. Even after reloading and changing position, they still came toward me.
- Snipers suck early on. You're forced to specialize into pistols until late game.
- Melee attacks can miss, which is frustrating. Late game, melee is worthless.
- The base attack mission is awful, and it comes completely out of nowhere. 3 enemies are spawned per turn between your ship and the mission objective. You're forced to send at least one unit to destroy the objective. He's likely to die on his way back, since the enemies are spawned between the evac point and the objective.
- The load times are quite long, and there are numerous random pauses during player or enemy turns.
- Numerous other bugs and issues, which can lead to your squad dying out of your control: enemies seeing through walls; multiple spawns on top of each other; enemies shooting through solid walls and/or ceilings; imbalanced enemy abilities, e.g., Viper poison.

(Played exclusively with the Oculus Rift DK2)

Very immersive spaceship simulation with fun combat. Surprisingly, no motion sickness (every other game or demo made me motion sick). The game gets quite boring after 50 or so hours because of lack of depth. I'm hoping future patches or expansions expand on combat in particular.

Exploration seems like a cool idea, but after about 1 hour I got so bored I went back to combat. Exploration lacks the in-game tools to make it fun. For example, you can earn a lot of money if you find a habitable planet, but there's no way to actually narrow down star systems or planets.

You can also do mining and trading, but if you're going that route you may as well play Eve Online.

Great item game, well done end game. GGG has proven to be masters of the ARPG. The best part is that the game is constantly being updated, adding new content and skills, all for free.

If you want a game with depth, Path of Exile is it. Probably the deepest game I've ever played.

Really good puzzle/exploration/psychological game. The visuals and immersion were very refreshing, too. Videos and screenshots don't quite capture the feel of the game. Once you play through it you'll understand.

I played nothing but Classic (the 3rd of 4 difficulties) on Ironman (only one save file) and had a blast. Extremely frustrating at times due to a steep learning curve, but a great challenge, both strategically and tactically.

Fun FPS/RTS hybrid based on a proven concept (NS1). The fan base stretches back 10 years. Devs are constantly updating the game and will continue after release, just as with NS1.
