R.I.P OmegaForte 最近的评测

The original Zeno Clash actually surprised me on how good it was.

It was overall a clunky mess. The guns--while powerful, were clunky and unwieldy, just like the hand to hand combat initially. But just like the combat, the plot, art, and enviroment deepen immensely with time. Half way through the game, no spoilers, I found out exactly how deep it was.

The story isn't extremely well written...However it is worth weeding through, thorns and all. It's almost deeper than itself, the protogonist, Ghat is justified in his anger but doesn't handle correctly and gives us a cliff to jump right into the plot.

This time however, the attemps to streamline the gameplay serve to it's detriment. The combat got quite the downgrade and turned me off to the core gameplay. The story didn't grab me either, being a "Path to redemption" as I saw it. The Gameplay and the story together make for a rather unappealing engagement, and it lost me just after the first chapter. I cannot say I can reccomend this game.

Now let's talk about the invidual points. Combat's up first. In the original game, you could easily see your reach, your blows felt like they had weight to them and each punch was satisfying. Countering was worth the practice, managing groups of enemies isn't even worth it a quarter of the time. You can just kyte them out, swing one punch to stall one of them. That's not the worst part. Your character has no reach. You literally have to stand chest-to-chest to engage your foes, the effect of your punches feels light, combat isn't worth it.

Plot wise, it's a false call of retribution. For what little I was able to stick through, it was just another half-way written attempt to undo what the first game did in some way. I lost interest the moment I got the synopsis of what I was going to be doing in these first thirty minutes.

The combat along with the plot are what got me to charge on in the first one, but this game's was far worse than the original.
