It's just a lovely atmospheric puzzle game, right? Puzzles and more puzzles. Low stress, soothing audio, no real danger. Very pleasant, until you discover there's more. And you explore and uncover more. More secrets, more lore, more... everything. Turtles all the way down...

It's been a long time since a game sucked me in like Blue Prince. And btw, do yourself a favor and get the soundtrack too. Maybe once a year, I find some new music that I have to listen to on repeat, until it changes my DNA. Trigg & Gusset's soundtrack is doing that for me.

I may have plumbed the depths of this game after 150+ hrs. There may be more to dig into, but I have my limits. That's not a complaint. And I'm still not done playing. I may prefer being in Mt. Holly Estate over being in meatspace.

Little Nightmares and Little Nightmares II are dear to me. I've replayed those two games over and over for years now. LN is a perfect little gem, and LN II is a rare sequel that is just as good if not better than the first. Unfortunately, Little Nightmares III has left me feeling disappointed.

LN III is as beautiful as its predecessors. The sound design is amazeballs. There are plenty of creepy and weird setpieces, and yet... it's missing something. It feels like a retread, a recycling of the past two games. Yes, there are some original creatures, but also enough repetition of old mechanics and behaviors that I feel like they were scraping the last bit of peanut butter out of the jar for this episode.

And I don't feel as tied to this game, I'm not invested. I play and I try to care, but it just didn't happen as it did with the first 2 games. I felt myself getting annoyed. Bored. Hoping to reach the end. The other LN games had me immersed and never wanting to leave that dark world.

Bandai Namco, I am your ideal customer. I bought everything I could to do with your Little Nightmares game. All the DLC, the soundtrack, etc. Same for the LN II. And when you offered a preorder for LN III, I jumped, I said Shut up and take my money, and bought the deluxe edition. So for me to be here, let down that your game is short and lacks heart and won't even allow me to acquire the soundtrack, shows that you've made a business misstep.

I get to wait 6 months for one more chapter? 12 months for another chapter? And again, you won't allow me to download the soundtrack? The kicker to me missing out on the OST, by the way, is that you gave 2 music tracks to special Lenovo customers, and that I might never be able to buy them. Whatever is going on there borders on disrespect towards me.

Anyway, all my love to the artistic team behind this game. As well as my sympathies to them, because I wonder how much of their efforts were hampered, hindered and altered by the marketing and sales-types at your company. to the money-makers at Bandai, I can say: You've changed our relationship. I am no longer Shut Up and Take My Money for the LN franchise. Now I am: Wait For A Sale.

I am very impressed. I expected top-level graphics, atmosphere, sound design and got it in spades. What I didn't expect was a layered, detailed, human story that is on-par with an old Stephen King novel. Have you read IT, or Stand by Me or The Stand? Those books slowly build, in little ways, with character development and nuance. They get their emotional hooks into you (haha) and once you're invested, only then do they hit you with something.

The Casting of Frank Stone takes a page from classic King, Koontz and Straub. The writing is also loyal to the Dead by Daylight lore. A lesser author would go for easy scares and kills, but TCOFS is serious work. It doesn't sprint to the finish line, and it doesn't cheat its readers/players. When you get there, you will feel it in your bones.

This could've been a novel. Or a graphic novel. Or a movie. I'm glad it was a video game, because I'm already replaying it to explore the causality and the Cutting Room Floor portion. I'm fascinated that I'm not yet done with this after one playthrough.

What a great game. What can I say about it that others haven't already?

Not as dark and brutal as Inside or limbo. So kids can watch and play this one, nothing to worry about that might scar a young mind.

Some of these puzzles are tough. I had to think in new directions. At least one of these solutions involved using a paradox. I'm good with that.

Very happy that the controls are so simple, Atari-2600 simple. It really helps you fall into the game.

Highly enjoyable, this game is gorgeous and easy to disappear into for hours at a go. The world-exploring resembles the Sable game in quality and expansiveness. But while Sable is chill, this is a more energetic take on things. Once you master the movements, you'll get your Matrix-flex on as you sprintglidegrindleap through eye-popping environments. It's fun that doesn't get old.

The game recommends a game controller, but I was able to immerse and play well, after rebinding a few controls to my mouse buttons. No big deal there.

I appreciate the QA guys, in hindsight. They made a tight and clean game. I only got "stuck" once and had to restore to a save point. Only once, in a kingdom that large, is impressive.

I kinda knew this would be a great game, because I can count on Annapurna. But I had no idea the scope of the world that Heart Machine could make in there. I can't wait to play through again.

I loved this game until it introduced a significant amount of combat in the third (?) level. The artistry and sound design of this game are top-notch and I really enjoyed the immersion. I looked forward to being "in" this game.

But once the combat became more common, it pulled me out of the immersion and made me unhappy. I would walk through the 3rd level for half an hour, slowly taking damage from creatures, and only having a small amount of healing resources. I would get killed by the monsters. I would respawn with almost no life and no healing resources and quickly die again. This forced me to restart the entire level, to dodge that quicksave point containing an almost dead me. And after another half hour of repeated adventuring, I would be right back where I was, dying and respawning with almost no health.

There is no difficulty level to change. I am not allowed to quicksave right before each battle. I cannot restore to a savepoint of my choosing. And there are not cheats out there to get more health. I would've used ANY strategy I could find to improve or bypass or surmount this combat challenge, but there appears to be nothing.

Game devs, it hurt me to abandon Scorn. I loved your game. It broke my heart. I could not keep restarting that level and laboring through it over and over again, some kind of cruel Groundhog Day routine. I refunded your game, but I will repurchase if ever I see that you've changed something fundamental about the combat or the save functionality.

I love games from Annapurna Interactive. I've come to play many of them, trusting that they will be 1) Beautiful, 2) Thoughtfully Crafted and 3) Have Heart. Stray is no exception. But that's only the beginning of the accolades I can heap upon it.

They got the cat right. Let's start there; these programmers are obviously ailurophiles & felinologists extraordinaire, because the cat moves wonderfully. Expresses delightfully. The controls are intuitive enough, and you can always make them better for you with some quick and easy key rebinds. Everything is fluid and graceful and nothing distracted me from being immersed in The Cat.

Next the world-building must be praised. The lush and layered graphics astounded me throughout each chapter, and in some cases overwhelmed me. As they should, in a neon-covered grungy city, or a filthy & corroded sewer. The audio is all well thought out, too, with quirky music, humorous robot "voices" and ambient noises for the more creepy or murky settings. And the auto-cam worked reliably to show details and vistas, even in tight areas and fast-action scenes.

Back to the cat: it's adorable. You can meow. And purr and scratch and knock stuff off of tables. You can do all that cat stuff, if it amuses you, or not. But you should do it, you should Cat hard and Cat often. Be The Cat. Because all of these antics serve the game and the story. They may seem cute or silly, but some day, your mad cat skillz are going to help you solve a challenge that an AI or robot won't.

The tech and the story are the final things I appreciated in Stray. Stray is its own story, and stands for itself. But it pays homage to so many other works, and calls back to so many other cyberpunk, horror and scifi classics. In my first run of the game (8 hours), I could tell the writers and artists loved Neuromancer, Bladerunner, HHGTTG, Wall-E. I could feel their fondness of Big Hero 6, Portal, Alien. Even Back to the Future gets some love. And I suspect many of these devs have enjoyed other games, like Inside, Soma, Half-Life and Back Home, and synthesized some style elements of those into their masterpiece. Stray ends up being a love story to all of these works and genres.

Stray is a cat game, but it's also a puzzle exploration platformer that sees you on a sprawling post-apocalyptic journey. A Hero's Journey. This little cat will have you feeling like a hero by the end of his tale.

Love the game in general, and can forgive bugs and other software glitches. Because we're all human, right?

But I am disappointed that the cool Pinhead lines (vocals) were removed. I don't understand the IP rights issues at hand, and I don't have to. This should have been sorted out properly ahead of time, so that my expectations were managed properly. I probably would've still bought this chapter out of loyalty, but BHVR, please know: I feel this testing me. I'm irritated about this and I haven't resolved it, like I can with in-game glitches.

I'm also unhappy about the NFT issue with Pinhead. Again, I don't fully grok the rights and contractual issues at hand, and I don't have to. The fact that BHVR got involved in any way with NFTs is offensive to me. This is not a human error that I can easily forgive. This is a difference in values. This is also testing me, and I find myself looking to the door.

I hope I don't have to leave, BHVR, but I also realize that all good things come to an end. Please do better, BHVR, so that things don't end on these notes.
