One of my favourite games of all time remade to near-perfection. A true triumph limited only by minor bugs and a few nitpicks.

For newcomers, this is easily a 15+ hour adventure in some of the best environments I've seen. It's vibrant and perfectly dark. Compared to the Nintendo Wii version, the colours pop more and everything has more significance.

For returning players, I highly recommend this remake. It's a remake, alright. Everything has been changed, except the music. The worlds are more vibrant, more lived in. More secrets to find. The layouts are different too, every 2D Stage has been remade differently, the action stages are much wider, and have different layouts whilst retaining some of the original layouts of the Wii version.

But most importantly, the camera is fixed.

The only complaints I have are:

- Costumes kinda suck. Couldve added a bit more
- There are a few minor bugs, most notably audio (e.g Bog Easy plays the Lonesome Manor theme, the dynamic music is a bit wonky, Oswald's theme doesn't play once you reach his lair) and NPC issues (Some NPCs reuse dialogues in non good scenarios, the goat NPCs are replaced by Cow NPCs, they didn't add Gremlin Barry and in the ending the gremlins still have Gus' mustache)

But these are just nitpicks. The meat and quality of life that this game adds makes this, to me, my perfect remake. I cannot recommend it enough. I love this game so much

BACKTRACKING THE VIDEO GAME

Sounds bad, but isn't. You will feel frustrated. You will feel upset. You will cry. THIS IS ALL INTENTIONAL. The way the story is presented... it's heartfelt, poignant. The way this game plays with your emotions, especially those of frustration and wanting to give up, it's really well made. And the payoff is... magnificient.

The combat isn't anything to write home about until later in the game, although for narrative reasons instead of gameplay reasons. This game is not for you if you prefer gameplay above story.

If you do prefer story above gameplay, then I have no bigger recommendations than this. Possibly my GOTY for 2024. If you feel frustrated in this game, it's intentional. Never give up and I guarantee you will find yourself an unforgettable experience that any story lover should play.

A beautiful form of digital artistry. For a game with 1 prominent character, it runs a mile with it. It is nothing short of a beautiful experience, playing with the human mind but not in a very massive way, but rather, it plays it subtle. It's message is within it's gameplay.

Perspective is the name of the game, where objects you grab fundamentally work on a 2D plane in a 3D environment. If something is small, yet you bring it up where it looks big from your perspective, congrats! It's big! It's a really simple gameplay loop, but it does so many cool things that I don't want to spoil.

It is a short game, only taking me 4 hours to beat (and I was taking my time), but it has a lot of heart. It is one of the most beautiful games I've ever played. The soundtrack ranges from pleasant to gorgeous, the visuals follow suit as well. The story itself is non-existant, rather... the game doesn't tell you a story, the game simply wants to talk to you. Tell you an important message of perspective through a bizarre, uncanny video game.

Everyone should play this game. If not for the gameplay, then for how it makes you feel. It was unforgettable for me, and I'm happy I picked this game up.

WARNING

This game is not for the emotionally vulnerable. Trust me, it isn't. This game will break you. This game will leave a mark on you. Unless you're a stonefaced god who never cries, this game will make you feel a barrage of emotions to an overwhelming degree.

It's themes are very heavy, and if you're not emotionally stable, this game could become upsetting or maybe even traumatising for some. You have been warned.


OMORI

OMORI is one of those games that comes once in a blue moon. I know this game will make you think on the outside that it's the run-of-the-mill ''quirky EarthBound inspired RPG set in modern times with themes of depression''. While on the surface level, yeah that's fair, it's really the game that goes above and beyond to differentiate itself. If you thought UNDERTALE/DELTARUNE was good, OMORI follows in it's successful predecessor's footsteps to deliver one of the single most touching stories I've ever had the opportunity of experiencing. If I had to say something:

UNDERTALE is to EarthBound as OMORI is to MOTHER 3.

What I mean is calling this game another EB inspired RPG is a disservice. It's an emotionally poignant experience. Whereas UNDERTALE hit you with humour and meta commentary with some thought provoking and touching scenes here and there, OMORI is a complete 180 of that, letting it's story fly with emotion, with touches of humour and commentary here and there.


GAMEPLAY

The gameplay is relatively standard for an RPG. You got your RUN, Attack, Items (known as Toys and Snacks), Skills, HP and MP (Known as Heart and Juice). What differentiates it is 2 major things: the emotion system (think typing in Pokémon) and follow-up attacks. The emotion system basically acts as status changes for friends and foes (I.E. anger makes the one who's angry do more damage but has less defense, etc). The follow-up system, however, is much more complicated. Your party, outside of individual MP, has a group energy meter that fills up whenever one of your party members is hit with an attack. You can either burn some for quick follow-up attacks to finish off enemies, or save it till it's full for an all-powerful ultimate team attack. Overall, these two factors add just a smidge more to the combat of this game, and you will find yourself strategizing on what emotions you'd think would be best, what to do with your energy, and then some.

Outside of combat, the game is just your typical RPG. You walk around, you complete puzzles and you explore a vast open world. There are actually a lot of fun sidequests that unlock pretty fun bonuses, be it useful or useless, but almost all feel rewarding. Save points are plenty too, so don't worry about getting lost. The length of the game isn't super long, 20~ hours if you're just going straight to the finish, around 70 if you're looking to 100% complete this game.


STORY

The story is BY far one of the single most emotionally packed stories ever to grace a game. I've played many games, and not many can come close to this story. But when I say the *story* is a masterpiece, it's not flawless. There's a lot of writing hiccups that you will find, but it's not bad enough to where the immersion would be ruined. It's themes of depression, suicide, loss, guilt, trauma and personal growth are dealt with such a mature mindset, it's insane. And without divulging into any spoilers, this game takes advantage of the ''show not tell'' aspect of story telling as you piece together the figurative piece of the puzzle.

It's characters are also extremely charming, everyone from main actors to the most insignificant NPC are all memorable. Your main party is filled with such amazing and unforgettable characters that you'll be associating to others for days to come. They are the type of characters to live in your head rent free and you'd thank em for it. Not only will you learn to love some of em, you will also learn from them. They ooze humanity. They are full of soul and character.

And don't worry, I see the ''Pure GAMERS'' among you, this game is by no way ''political'' or ''woke''. *which makes no sense since stuff like mental illness, sexuality or gender have nothing to do with politics. It's just humans being humans*

It is a masterpiece of a story, and even days later after I've beaten the game, I'm still speechless. I still cry warm tears.


MUSIC

While the Soundtrack isn't as bopping as other games (trust me it still has ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BOPPING BEATS), the soundtrack compliments the emotion of the game beautifully. If the story didn't make you feel enough, the music will have your emotionally stability to the test. From the innocent, childlike music-box-esque from ''Lost at a sleepover'' to the emotionally plentiful ''By your side'', this soundtrack has enough to make you cry, to make you laugh, to make you dance and to make you determined.


ART

This'll be short, but I want to commend the art, how deceptful it is. How innocent it looks. How... perfect it is for this game. It seems amateurish but it's beautiful. It's perfection and complexity of simplicity at it's best.


SYNOPSIS

This game, in my honest opinion, is a 10/10. It's a must-play to anyone who enjoys a good story, to anyone who loves good music, touching characters and to anyone who hasn't cried in 7-8 years. It is a genuine experience that you can only capture once. If you can play this game 100% blind, do it. This game will burn itself in your soul and live with you for better or for worse.

If I had to summerize this game: It's human. It's emotional. It's a very special game.
