The Next Generation's Final Fantasy VII - 10/10

AESTHETICS

An incredible piece of art.
As a writer, this game is nothing short of inspirational, I can only hope my work reaches the heights of satisfaction the tale of Expedition 33 has done. The dialogue is consistently more believable than 90% of media, particularly video games. The emotions are paced excellently and conveyed expertly. The use of show don't tell is evident of the respect for the player, and this is much the same for the game systems as well (beyond the prologue tutorials of course).

The game is visually stunning with wallpaper bait around every corner. Despite this, the game is surprisingly well-optimised for a UE5 title, I've had many stuttering and frame-drop issues with recent releases, but not this one, bar a couple of areas.
And the music, oh the music. A compositional masterpiece. If by some wild turn of fate this game does not win GOTY, it will win best OST of the year undoubtedly.

GAMEPLAY

A super satisfying gameplay loop.
This is the first time I have felt the motivation to 100% a game, which is possible in a single play-through! It appears I am not alone in this as roughly 5% of players have done the same; an incredibly high number for only a few weeks after release.

The gameplay loop is very satisfying, you get the strategic-flair of your tactical turn-based games such as Persona and Final Fantasy, and blend it with the active action of Sekiro parrying, dodging and counters.
You always have a sense of control.
There are no RNG reasons for your characters to get hit by that team-wiping Boss move. It's solely down to your pattern-recognition and reactivity. I would not be surprised if this becomes the genre standard.
The use of QTE and active parrying to this extent in a turn-based game is new and amazing. If that doesn't sound like your thing, you can automate QTE and turn the difficult down so eating hits isn't as punishing, but I would not recommend that unless you're getting very frustrated, because you can always create solutions with Pictos and build strategy.

In terms of the tactical planning / build design you are rewarded highly for creativity as many Pictos (equipment) are interactive with one another and synergise with certain skills and weapons in fun ways. If you put your thinking cap on (or look up a guide), you'll have a very strong team, even if you disregard who the player-base have deemed the strongest character.

NEGATIVES

The only negative I have is that the animations are not always satisfactory for the player to read an incoming attack and their relationships with the sound cue changes from enemy to enemy, even from attack-to-attack within the same enemy type, which can feel like an underhanded ploy to artificially increase the difficulty. However, sometimes I've enjoyed this; you have to identify THE signal for a specific move, which akin to a mini-puzzle within the active portion of the fight.
Though, in some cases, animations are not clear due to player character models and VFX in the way, or just a step too-far in terms of pacing, like a certain end-game optional boss. Thankfully, however, there are options for you to get around learning some of the hardest patterns in the game if you don't have the time to sink.

Do you like geometry dash? With the amazing colours, music and intensity then all I can say is that you will love this game.
This is like the geometery dash of racing. It's also got some awesome damage system to your car, kind of like phyiscs.

I have barely played this game and I absolutely love it already. All I wish for is some server support because right now you have to host the server yourself or find someone else that is hosting one in the browser which is okay but sometimes people can all end up hosting and no one will join due ot it.

The only dissappointment I have with this game is the Adventure mode. I am well aware that it isn't finished but when I first saw it I thought I'd be exploring a dangerous city with my car and making my own tracks ( Chosing certain paths) But it turned out to be a bit more like a story mode which is fine with me just wish there was an open world exploration feature like I explained.

Another suggestion would be maybe some online in this mode with maybe weapons??? LIke a neon cannon. I am letting my imagination take me away here but it's still a thought.

So yeah I definetly recommend this game. Simply amazing.
