Super Evil Megacorp has created something extremely special with this game. It is insane to think that this game used to be an Apple Arcade exclusive with the gameplay depth and breadth of content it has, and they keep adding more. I have two issues with Splintered Fate which is repition and the fact that it technically isn't finished. The story is integrated into the Roguelike gameplay very well, giving you a reasonable justification for the multiple run-throughs. But right now the game doesn't have a proper conclusion, and while I love all of the character additions (please add Jennika) I would love an update to give the story it's final conclusion, hopefully with another unique final boss fight at the end to give returning players something new to achieve. As for the repition, I understand that Roguelikes are built around the multiple run structure, and that isn't my issue. My issue is that there isn't a lot of variety per run. In a game like The Binding of Isaac, the rooms are very basic but they can have a lot of different obstacles and items and enemy selection. Splintered Fate really only has you fighting the same few enemies for the whole game, and don't get me wrong, a lot of the combinations of enemies you go up against will be very challenging and engaging to fight, but there isn't really anything to the rooms besides the enemies. Occasionally you'll enter a room with a lighting storm, but that's about it as far as environmental hazards. I also think some variety in the actual locales would be interesting. Junkyard Jam is my favorite DLC for this game and not only is that because it adds a brand new area to run through with unique layouts and a new miniboss and endboss, but I also love how it's implemented. Instead of just tacking on a new area to the middle of your run, or randomizing which areas you visit, you get to choose between going to one location or going to the Junkyard, and both locations have their own advantages and disadvantages in deciding which one to choose which is such a unique idea. I hope in the future the devs decide to add more areas and implement them like this because it's brilliant design. Obviously I didn't really talk about the gameplay in this review and the main reason for that is that it's basically Ninja Turtles Hades (most original take of all time I know). The game feels really good to play, there's a wide variety of upgrades and perks and different modifiers to take it all feels very good and pretty well balanced, and anything that isn't as well balanced gets altered and updated to bring it up with everything else. The tldr here is that the game is of a very high quality, if you're a TMNT fan I'd highly recommend picking it up, whether on sale or not as the devs are cool and actually care about their game and I want to encourage giving back to them for their commitment and hard work. Even if you're not really into Roguelikes, this game is a great jumping on point, and the previously mentioned run modifiers can make the game legitimately challenging for seasoned Roguelike fans. Support indie devs, buy the game, have fun.

This is not a glowing review of Escape the Backrooms.

Me and my friends were super excited to play this and... damn. We can't even get past Level 1 because whenever we respawn at the checkpoint, the storage room only has Almond Water and no Flashlights and in a Level based around tight corners and darkness it makes the level near impossible. This is also considering the fact that skin stealers don't make any sound until you're precisely 2 feet away from them so by the time you need to run, you're already dead. Skin stealers are also one shot kill so there is actually no opportunity to run and even if you get the chance to, your friends body block the doors because only one person can go in at a time. I understand that the people developing this game consists of a single man, and that's the main reason as to why this review isn't me just randomly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on this game, because it won't help make it any better, but there is some very blatant issues that should be fixed. I can't even speak on the majority of the game because I can't get past the second area. This game has potential, I hope it gets better, and I'm sure in the coming days me and my friends will try this again and we'll get past, and in the event that happens I will update this review so it more accurately reflects what I like and don't like about the whole game, I just don't know when that will happen.

EDIT: so me and my friends beat Level 1, and we ended up making it to the level with the breakers and the hounds. in between that was a section where you have to run between lights to evade Smilers, and I don't think that it was actually that bad, except for the fact going up the ramp is not the solution but they didn't put an invisible wall there so I was just wandering through the darkness blind for 10 minutes. Anyways, the level with the hounds is pretty good, the main problem we ran into was that one of my friends was doing one of the breakers when he got killed by a hound and then after that, none of us could go and do that breaker. So overall, I still don't like Level 1, we only got through it because one of us got lucky and then everyone else died. The tunnel level with the smiler is fine because it's only like 5 minutes long and the level with the hounds is fine except for that one glitch.

For a supposed "April Fools joke", this game manages to have more heart and soul than any of SEGA's more recent Sonic projects. I hope that the reception to this game and Mania will show SEGA that the fans know what the fans want, and no, this isn't an April Fools joke.

Game has been abandoned since October of last year with no mention of a possible comeback due to the devs working on Poppy's Playtime chapters. Really sad honestly, was essentially a cartoony, free version of Dead by Daylight, but since they removed the ability to make private servers with the most recent update, and since there is barely anyone playing the game anymore, there isn't really a point in trying.
