Genuinely great game, and has a lot of potential here, but is not worth the 50 Dollar price tag for it, there still are multiple things that needs to be addressed before you can justify it and the AI needs reworking. The worst thing I have with this game right now as of July 2025, is that everytime I play a match the game immediately crashes.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled it, restarted my PC, verified files, etc. Specs shouldn't be an issue since the game run amazingly well. But it just keeps crashing Every. Time. so like idk if this will sway someone away from buying it but actually put this game at the back of your mind before getting it. plays like a 3/10 with my experience now ig

August 2025: Everything Negative about the game has been fixed, the game runs well, it's fun watching the little details and great to fight against decks everyone makes in a 5v5 (expect it to be a 4v5 or more likely uneven). There is the occasional hacker in the game, but it's very rare, only had it happy twice. The rest of unfair games have been team mates leaving early as soon as possible but still great when you get a match going. A good 8/10 for a RTS-game that needs you to think on your toes and expect the unexpected

I've played this game since like 2017 with school friends, I've met funny people on here and made some dumb memories while looking at something to come back to for some casual play, it saddens me that at a great time to play a minority of people chose to ruin and flood servers with bots.
I hope that this game is saved and fixed and valve listens to our plea, a great game hands down that has it's flaws but now needs more attention more than ever. Fix the game dude.

This game has a lot of potential of being a really good game. The devs just need to hear us a bit more. Other than nerfing or adding a new DLC we could uses some mechanics fixed. This game has good potential for people who are history buffs or playing just another game, it's an okay game. A major problem I that I'm going to leave a bad review is that the devs won't help you. Cannon trolling and Artillery stealing will be more common then ever. Reporting Racism on here they don't do anything. There just need to be a little more player-to-dev interaction to make it a bit better. Everything else is fair in this game with funny moments. Best way to play this game is with friends. Having someone you know to go into this game with will make it a bit better. Look to join a gaming group or a laid back regiment.

Since the last review and the release of the WW1 update. Many have seen this as a unnecessary update with no consultation from the community.
As of that, there is no clear dev-community communication at all with toxicity a horrible problem.
Since the ww1 release the game has ran more horribly and not just from me but from other people for maps that will be dead in a few months.
Since the ww1 update there are three countries on 1 flag, Austria, Germany, and the Ottomans. Why should there be a price on a skin if the country is on the flag but not in game?

If your looking for a game JUST like holdfast that actually runs better and has WW1 mods already, PLUS listens and communicates w/ their community, and actually does something with their toxic player just play Battle Cry of Freedom.
Even the smallest competition of BCoF is making Holdfast look bad.
P.S BCoF's WW1 Mod has TANKS and hf doesn't lmao
