Battlefield 1 as a game is excellent. This review isn't about the quality of the game. As a product, it's not worth buying due to the rampant and horrendous cheating crisis. TLDR: If you join any server (even community ones), you're very likely going to be on a server with a cheater, potentially multiple. The situation has deteriorated and the community-driven efforts to ban cheaters has failed. Consoles aren't even safe - hacks are now being seen on PSN.

In more detail, the Asia BF1 community (almost certainly the largest) has had an internal war going on for a while. Somehow, a group found a way to gain admin privileges on any server, even official ones. They used this to power a tool called "bfeac", which automatically banned cheaters. Recently, the exploit this tool used has been discovered by cheaters, and they used it to basically annihilate all Asia servers - even the community ones (which they DDOSed separately). By "annihilate", I mean they literally banned all non-cheaters from servers when they joined.

DICE responded by effectively removing the ability to kick/ban players, which worked to stop the exploit used by bfeac, good or bad. This also means community server owners can't ban cheaters. So everything is back to square one, where a game with a terrible, unmaintained anticheat is swarmed with extremely blatant hackers. It's not like some other games where the hacks are subtle.

I know personally it wouldn't be that hard to mitigate a large chunk of these cheats, but DICE probably won't update this game. That might be EA's fault, who knows. They'd rather you just bought BF2042 or something.

A similar situation happened with Titanfall 2, with that ultimately being resolved through the community reverse engineering their own server hosting system. I doubt that will ever happen with Battlefield 1.

While I haven't "finished" the game or anything - I just wanna get a review out for that critical early phase as I think this has a ton of potential.

TLDR: Ain't perfect, but you could totally get this and have a good bit of fun. It's not Jet Island.

To get performance and "quality" out of the way: It's fine on my system. I don't get stutters or anything like that. The quality/production values of the game are perfect IMO. It does not feel janky. Back to gameplay:

The game isn't perfect, but it can be great fun. Don't think it is just a derivative of something like Jet Island, as it isn't. It doesn't have thruster hands, grappling hook, etc. The board is much more manually controlled, and requires some precision. I think this is a plus, and the board controls really lend itself to it. Your hands really tightly control the board. You can watch the trailers to get an idea of that.

What about the "isn't perfect" part? Well, it currently has some control finickyness. To explain in detail would make this absurdly long. But I do have some gripes on the Index Controllers. Also no it doesn't have finger tracking why the hell would it need finger tracking

Anyways, I like this game.

I wasted 7 dollars on boxes and almost got a cyrex not too long after my friend got a knife with only three boxes

10/10 would waste money all over again
