The dev team retroactively added an EULA which strips anyone who bought before the EULA of their ownership of the game. The devs have fully given into greed with this move. They are literally saying "♥♥♥♥ you, we have your money and we decide you dont own this anymore." Whos to say they wont further change the terms of your "ownership" and use of your game?

This game isnt even multiplayer. Even once that is added, its not PVP. There is quite literally zero reason for an EULA other than pure addiction to money

Oh, and they collect data from your PC as well. This game literally has had spyware added into it and you agreed to let it collect data from you when you agreed to their nonsense EULA. I cant install a game I paid for without being forced to consent to having data collection software installed along side it.

If Tuxedo Labs gets to twist the definition of "buy" and "purchase" then so do we. Ive decided I own this game and will have it on my PC without spyware and without agreeing to your EULA. As of this moment I have "bought" Teardown, that is to say I have the files for the game installed on my PC regardless of the source I am forced to get them from in order to secure my ownership rights.

Never used to have an EULA when I first bought it, now the devs want me to agree to give up my ownership of a game I paid for so it can be "licensed" instead ie converted to a long term rental. The greed in this action is so beyond anything reasonable its unbelievable. Not worth the price tag to not even get to own the game Im paying for.

For anyone still interested just be sure not to ever look at repack sites for a copy of House Flipper and all its DLC. This may not be legal in your region and its so easy to do, just downloading the repack and installing with the click of a few buttons, you could do it by accident.

Update (04/23/25): The over nerfing has been fixed and everything feels about as powerful as it should for the most part. My main complaints are the grind to unlock things is still quite slow and the instability of the game. Visual and UI glitches are extremely common with stuttering and crashes happening sometimes as well. As of late theres also been more connection issues.

The most recent enemy faction, the Illuminate, feel bad to play against. They only have three enemy types with one of those having a few minor variants. By contrast the other two factions have around 10 enemy types with most of those also having a few variants. The health of the Illuminate feel at least 50-100% (or more) higher than every other factions equivalent enemy type. They also have shields for two of the three enemy types plus on their spawners in their bases. When it comes to damage their titan enemy type can one shot a full health mech-suit while said mech has to use nearly half its ammo stores, which cannot be refilled, to kill the titan. This is not the case with any other enemy in the game. They are simply unfun and feel poorly designed/balanced.

Overall, the game is much better than it was a while ago but is far from without issue. HD2 is still quite fun, esp with others (even strangers most of the time), but theres work to be done. The devs seem like they are still trying to make the game better and, unlike most dev teams, were willing to admit they messed up and backtrack bad/unpopular changes. To me at least, this shows the devs, HD2, and any future projects they undertake have great promise.

Id give HD2 a tentative recommendation. Try it out, with friends of possible, but keep an eye on that two hour refund time.

Original review: Everyone is right about the over nerfing. Everything feels super weak above mid level difficulties with many guns taking entire mags to kill anything above basic grunt and infantry enemy types. Even the orbital bombs feels like it tickles the heavy enemies at best. Its kinda dumb when a single heavy can tank multiple orbital bombardments from each player, several entire mags, rocket launcher direct hits, and being set on fire without being killed. Then, once its finally dead, two more come out of nowhere at the same time with an army of grunts who mostly all move faster than you and can stagger you and even knock you down

Also, the grind is crazy slow. Ten hours in and Ive only unlocked three guns with one being a secondary with so little damage its literally useless on anything above the weakest of the weak grunts. The other two are shotguns and the second one you unlock is ungodly weak beyond lower difficulties

UPDATED REVIEW: It doesnt work anymore at all, fails to launch even to the splash screen. Played through the entire story and some skirmish matches. Got ~20 hours of gameplay out of it then it just broke one day. Seems the "anniversary edition" update rendered this game entirely unplayable. Perfect timing for the release of the definitive edition, eh? Relic has resorted to openly scamming its players now. The new version doesnt even give you ownership when you pay as you have to agree to an EULA. They broke my game so they could sell me a version I dont own and they can revoke from me at any moment. Unbelievable greed on full display here.

DO NOT BUY THIS. YOU WONT BE ABLE TO PLAY IT AT ALL. IT IS A SCAM. IT DOES NOT FUNCTION AT ALL. YOU WILL BE WASTING YOUR MONEY FOR SOMETHING THAT NO LONGER LAUNCHES.

THIS GAME IS A SCAM

Original Review: Got it for $5 on sale

Its for sure a game from 2006 but still very fun for $5

If you are thinking of buying this game.... dont. Unless you have a full squad of mates to play with you regularly its just not worth $60 and even then its ehhh at times.

Its full of all kinds of bugs, many of which can instantly ruin a mission attempt, and has an extremely unresponsive dev team. The dev team has never hit a deadline they set for themselves and has already started work on a second DLC when they are still late on the first one AND have done xzero bug fixes in close to a year. In fact, every update/hotfix they've done since their 1.0 launch has added new bugs.

Modding is the main lifeline keeping RoN afloat at this point. But, at the time of writing, they just announced they are swapping to a newer version of their engine so even the modding scene is in question at least for now. This is after theyve been promising a modding SDK for well over a year iirc with basically no updates or info outside of the classic VOID "coming soon".

It makes me so sad to have to not recommend this game

Update: The most recent DLC, and its two hot fixes at time of writing, actually came with a fair amount of bug fixes. But, it also a few major bugs like your SWAT squad regularly ignoring commands even more than they did before. The modding scene is also a mess right now as modders try to rebuild their mods from the ground up to work on UE5. Many of the most essential QoL mods are not yet updated and some of the most fun mods may never get updates.

As for VOIDs communication with their players, its gotten better but isnt quite where it could be. Nice to see they are trying and the new/returning community manager has been somewhat active in the VOID official discord.

So, VOID is starting to get their ♥♥♥♥ together and kinda fix their game but Id still be very weary of buying RoN. If you have four other mates who like slower paced authentic feeling shooters then it might be a worth while buy. Otherwise, maybe look elsewhere. If you want to "demo" the game for free there are ways online to do so but always make sure to support creators, esp ones like VOID who dont force EULAs on their customers.

Update 2 (Oct/06/24): So, after a handful more patches and hot fixes the SWAT AI is in the worst place its been in since 1.0. They outright ignore your commands about 30-40% of the time often result in them, civs, suspects, or even yourself getting killed when they didnt need to. Ive had runs where none of the "door jam this door" commands I gave were followed but I only noticed too late and died as a result. Even had once where I ordered "jam this door" but they opened the door instead and tripped a trap resulting in them dying.

Also, one of the updates after Home Invasion has rendered door jams, one of the most useful tacticals, into an utterly broken state. As of writing they glitch and fail at a rate of about 50% or more where as it used to be a very very rare bug. CS gas, another tactical which used to be very useful, is near unusable now. You cant see through the gas after they made it less transparent in Home Invasion but the AI can still see as if its not there at all. It also slowly fill a room now which would be a cool change if the AI SWAT didnt charge a room the instant the smoke pops meaning they dont get any of the advantages of using it.

I keep coming back to RoN hoping its somehow fixed and fully complete game. Each time Im sorely disappointed as Im harshly reminded how close yet so far this game is to being as advertised. It has everything it needs to be an amazing game but it just doesnt make use of what it has. VOID is always more focused on future paid content as if they are a AAA live service dev meanwhile ignoring the glaring issues with whats already in the game. At this point it really feels like it gets worse and worse with every patch. For every multiple-year-old bug they fix, the following update adds at least two or three more.

Oh and also.... still no more word on the modding SDK so the modding scene is still a mess

This game is 80% DLC and now they are doing this subscription BS. Paradox are hopelessly addicted to money and are trying to squeeze water from a rock with all the ways they monetize everything. The subscription was the final straw for me. All good faith with this company is gone and will not come back unless they take back the subscription and admit to their money hungry ways which are harming this games development. They have put much more care into ensuring their game is profitable as possible while neglecting the actual quality of the content they push out.

This game and all its DLC is very easy to find for free online but you shouldn't do that bc thats illegal

Very fun and very interesting game. The way it generates cites and cases is amazing tech and works quite well! While Shadows of Doubt is not without problems its overall a great game.

As for the problems I mentioned... Things like the more information you collect the more the game tends to slow down. Or the opening hours of many business feel inconsistent as if NPCs just aren't showing up for work. This is made worse by the fact you can only see the operation hours of a business by asking a worker while they are on duty. One other issue is with the finger print scanner the game will sometimes target an object (like a drawer or item) instead of the fingerprint on the object.

One nice thing regardless of bugs is, on the in-game pause menu, theres a feedback option which lets you send bug reports and feedback directly to the dev team. Its always awesome when something like this is added into a game.

PS The only reason I found this game was watching Mr Sark play it on his twitch stream. He made it look so fun that I just had to try it for myself. Lukily I had a $20 steam card laying around so I had no reason not to and Im glad I did!

AimLabs used to be a really great tool with a ranking system which updated with each task you played. It was the perfect way to be always tracking your progress in several different categories like tracking, flicking, spatial awareness, and multiple others.

Since I last played most of this was stripped in favour of a rank system which only counts a very small number of pre-selected tasks. The ranks no longer feel accurate and no longer actually track improvement progress. They also scrapped most of the rank categories leaving only three. For whatever reason there's a "competitive season" now as well which is the only place the new rank system applies or tracks. Completing a task also used to give plently of useful info like saying you're weak on the left side of your screen, are over/under flicking, etc but this has all been taken away in place of just "wow you're doing great!" and other generic encouraging messages. To my knowledge all this info is now hidden behind a paywall for a subscription with very bad reviews.

AimLabs is fine as its free and still has all the old tasks it had before plus new ones added by player made content. It does what it supposed to but just not as well as it used to do it.

Caused my SteamVR to crash and now nether my Index nor Vive is being detected. No matter what solutions I try error 208 always comes up, one of my HDMI ports also stopped working. Idk how but this app managed brick one of my HDMI ports and completely break SteamVR. I hadn't used VD is years and have had no technical issues with VR as I've been making heavy use of my Index over the last few weeks. That is, right up until I launched VD for the first time in ages, almost right away problems started then suddenly, after just moving my controller slightly, my entire SteamVR crashed and I encountered all the problems mentioned above.

VD also has recently added always online DRM and the dev has been extremely unprofessional towards anyone raising concerns about it. They've also been replying to reviews pretending like they didn't do this and accusing people of making reviews for "the wrong game or software" which is just kinda sad tbh. They aren't technically lying when they say the steam app didn't change but they did in fact add always online DRM to platforms outside Steam, not to mention the blatant unprofessionalism, which is still very scummy.

Edit/update: got my SteamVR working by turning off my PC, leaving it off for a while, as well as unplugging my headset from both my PC and the power cord. Once everything started up again SteamVR was working fine after testing in other, more functional, games. Against my better judgement I tried VD again and it started having issues but got by for a while. I left it running unattended for a bit and was surprised to see it didn't crash a second time but last time the crash was caused by moving my controllers so the fact it was left unattended was likely the only reason it didn't crash again. From now on I'm just going to stick to other alternatives like Bigscreen, which is only a bit better but not much, or this ALVR I've seen other reviews mention.
