This is a great little lesser-known game for roguelike enjoyers.

The writing theme is neat and very well executed, I love the names of enemies/abilities/effects that all relate to different concepts of books, authors and art in general.
The abilities are varied and fun, and all offer their own way of scaling and powering up.
There's fun synergies to be had with different inks when you play co-op and everyone can run their own build without hindering each other's abilities.
Having to pick not only buffs for the group but also buffs for enemies makes for fun replayability, although some are definitely way better to pick in pretty much every situation.

My ONLY gripes with the game are:
- Objectives (like orbs to collect) sometimes spawning right outside the map (seems reachable, but invisible wall prevents us from getting it)
- Some events being a little buggy (big tower where we knock on door: a friend and I pushed each other in, leaving the door closed and preventing our 3rd friend from entering and claiming the tower; we ended up stuck in it but I could teleport (not flutterstep, the other shorter one w/ 2 charges) through the door and my friend had to climb to a window (run would have been softlocked if he didn't have empowered quip that pulls him forward))
- And my biggest of them: visual clarity can be garbage for enemies. Multiple times we'll be wondering what we died from and what's dealing damage. Events like Stoplight are so hard to notice that they're obnoxious to bring since you have to stare at the bottom of your screen to make sure you're not about to get penalized, making you walk into more and more enemy attacks. Bosses will sometimes instantly spawn a bunch of stuff behind you that will two-tap you if you're not aware how they work/not fast enough to get away from them).

BUT with the game being in early access and us having so much fun with it already, I still very much recommend it if you like number-go-up gameplay.

Really cute puzzle-platformer with actually cool ideas and great level design. Introduces every new concept/idea/move gently and spends just enough time with it that you never really get tired of it.
Cosmetics are sick the artstyle is lovely, movement/physics feel great and snappy, really enjoyed my time with it!

9/10 can recommend, although I did slightly prefer the demo where the toast didn't have a voice (it doesn't really bring that much that couldn't have been done with the same sound+icon combo the cat does)

If the RTX is a big enough deal for you, play Portal 1 RTX (again).

Otherwise, Portal 2's worst rated custom maps will give you more fun than this.

-Puzzles are easy to figure out but they're the most obnoxious thing to execute. It's like they weren't even playtested. I had an easier time clearing one of the rooms by finding a hidden easter egg "rat den" and glitching my way into it instead of doing the regular way.
-Either they have
a) changed the physics of going through an "upside down" portal since rotating back the normal way takes AGES for how tight your movement has to be for all the puzzles
b) showed indirectly how brilliant Valve's level design is for that to never be an issue in the original game.
-They've made some neat little new gimmicks but I've never went "WOW" using them, they're kinda just plastered into a room and then you hit a button and the puzzle solves itself. Again, easiest thing to figure out, most obnoxious thing to execute.
-I challenge you to play the game without getting shot ONCE. I'm 99% sure it's impossible. Turrets are just there. Everywhere. Seemingly at random. And to complete some puzzles you have to run at them directly, try to take them down and portal back somehow without dying in the process. Where in the original game you'd turn a corner, notice a turret, and find a way to end up behind it without having to stand in it's line of fire, in this one you have to tank it and pray that the 4 oddly-placed losers won't push you out of the sprint you're making to place a portal behind them.

I don't know. You've got *some* interesting concepts that could be integrated into an official Portal game but they all seem used in the worst way possible. I don't know if I'm gonna finish this one since Chamber 18 is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frame perfect speedrunning nightmare of a gauntlet that sets you back 5 minutes if you miss a jump (which is common with how unfun the coming-out-of-a-portal rotation is.

I guess it's fine for the price.

Cons:
-menu is horrific and clicking its buttons works 50% of the time
-controls are everything but smooth
-every surface is wall jump-able so you can skip pretty much everything if you try hard enough
-physics are wack
-character doesn't look that much like a clown and runs like he didn't reach the bathroom in time
-i'm not even sure if you can call it level "design"
-"you know how to make this game harder? stack like 15 enemies on that one platform" -dev, probably
-finally hitting the end-of-level flag is the biggest letdown since Spore came out
-a lot of spots in levels don't even have death boxes meaning you just fall infinitely and have to restart the whole level
-do lives even matter
-sometimes the death screen just keeps stacking over your screen making it more and more opaque
-getting randomly kicked out of levels back to the menu screen was a daring addition but respectable from a gameplay point of view
-reading a sign doesn't stop your character so sometimes you just run off the stage like a legend
-random assets really out of place are scattered in the levels
-speaking of which, you cant even take the Excalibur from that one level smh my head
-hitboxes

Pros:
-very banger music
-the bootleg thwomps can launch you really far making it potentially a good speedrun strat
-insightful remarks on your gameplay whenever you die


Perfectly balanced.
Fun for the whole family.
