A great game all around. Cool characters, fun banter, varied enemies, beautiful art. However, I disagree with everyone complaining about the timer. The core concept of the game is time management, more akin to Kirby Air Ride's City Trial than the Risk of Rain everyone compares it to. Remove it, and the game would be just a generic hollow action rpg.
Theres a satisfaction in toeing the starting line with your party, plotting out routes and groups in order to maximize your time. Do you all split up and potentially waste lives in order to cover more ground? Do you play it safe and slowly kill a safe zone forward, or rush out in the hopes of finding better treasures at the risk of getting swarmed?
No timer here would be like having a cooking show with infinite time: theres no thrill and less skill involved.

As of 4 run throughs, my main complaints would have to be the leash mechanic, and the ads (enemy summons).
The leashing mechanic seems a bit arbitrary and annoying. Enemies in melee range of you that you've spent 30 seconds wailing on will sometimes just vanish and reappear at their original spot with their hp replenished while others in the same mob will keep attacking even at that distance. Maybe make them either not get leashed if they're in combat, or maintain the damage they've taken?
Some Elite enemies have the ability to spawn weaker versions of themselves, usually in groups of 2. As the Piper, I spend more time clearing them than attacking the elite, since he can quickly summon 2 new ones as soon as the first 2 die. Perhaps have a cooldown timer start once the mobs are killed, or make them a tad less beefy?
In a game about managing time, these 2 seems to be annoying time sinks.

Overall, I'd say give it a honest try for what it is instead of what you want it to be. Steam gives you two hours to ask for a refund afterall.

Extremely overrated game. I can see its merits, and even understanding its not the game for me, I don't understand how this is the greatest gift from god. To be clear, I can see how this can/will be a classic for those who like it, but I dont see it being an 11/10.

The combat seems clunky and without any sense of flow. There is basically 0 mobility; you cannot climb waist-high barriers for instance. The maps seem somewhat empty in a gameplay sense, being cluttered with random enemies and little sense of loot. PvP is pretty dumb to watch and participate in, but my only experience is being attacked by level 100's 5 times who just rolled through all the damage and spam healed whatever damage we managed to inflict. For a game big on combat, stunlocking seemed the way to win. When I tried to using finesse, there was little feedback on what I was doing wrong. Did I not parry that attack? Or is it just unparriable? Guess im stunlocked to death. The lesson to be learned from that is to forget finesse, and spam the attack button and stunlock them to death.

On a somewhat sore loser note, as a person who wants to main archery (in a friend coop group), invaders just roll through my arrows. Even if they roll straight towards me, and my arrows have 0 way of missing, they'd go through him unscathingly. I also dont understand why they have this dumb "level up" system. To do so, you need to go to a checkpoint, load the "main town" map, and then talk to an NPC. Then you have to go back to a checkpoint to return to where you were. Why not just have it at the checkpoint in the first place, without the need to swap maps back and forth? It seems pointlessly tedious, atleast in the beginning where you level up fast.

On a positive side, I find the ambiance and world unique and interesting enough, if a bit too plot convenient. I also like the fact that it forces you to defeat a segment with a limited amount of health, with you noticing your improvement as you get a bit further with every attempt. Reminds me of the good old days of arcade beat-em-ups like Golden Axe.

I want to give it a positive review. If Steam had the option, I'd give it a neutral review. Sadly, I have to give it a thumbs down for now. Theres alot of other reviews stating the good, so I'll just say the two things that ruined it for me.

The game can basically be divided into Singleplay Story Mode and Multiplayer. But both are unplayable (for me).

1: Multiplayer. A friend and I played this game vs a bunch of AI on a big map. We'd always get a decent amount of time into the game, but even setting aside 6 or so hours to play, we'd run out of time. Normally this would be where we'd save and continue later. Well, tough luck. Theres no saving. So after a few hours of building up our economies, we have to wipe the slate clean and start again. The main reason we can't finish in 6 hours also ruins singleplayer.

2: Singleplayer. Quite frankly, the AI are cheaters. Not in a good way either. They completely ignore all the physics of the game in order to give you a "challenge". Of course, in most strategy games with AI, they need cheats to keep up with the player. Like in Civilization, they get 10 or so times your resources. However, they are still confined within the games limits. Each town needs to build a unit/building, can build only 1 at a time, and can't stack units. Not in Northgard. The process for this game is you have to wait about a minute or so, based on happiness and current population, to obtain a new villager. If you want a solider, you walk him to a barracks and pay for his equipment. Simple enough. However, on multiple occassion, I have cornered the AI, took all their land, killed all their civillians. However, their building is popping out babies by the dozen who swarm your army. Even better, soldiers are somehow spawning from their barracks. Why can't I get a baby factory in my barracks? So you have your massive army get whittled down by hundreds of AI non-stop. Now your army is defeated. Time to build a new one? Nope. Unlike the AI, you get 1 man every minute or so. So just sit back and watch as the enemy who had absolutely nothing seconds ago somehow have a new army bigger than your entire population stomping across your land. Even with a friend helping in multiplayer its unbeatable. AI has a partner too. Finally about to stomp an enemy out of the game? Well his ally reenforces with a massive army. Hey, you somehow beat that massive army? Well the guy you were about to finish now has an army. Look whos coming immediately again! His ally. How fun. No matter how I play, at a certain point, all you can pray for is a stalemate and have nothing to look forward to but your demise.

TL:DR: I want to enjoy this game, but the AI cheats ridiculously, and you can't save multiplayer games. If one of these 2 chage, I'd definitely change to a positive, but I can't really enjoy the game in either game mode.

I really wish there was a neutral option, for I wouldn't necessarily call this a bad game. At times, I feel myself enjoying the simplistic MMO type of grinding. However, then comes along a little annoyance that pops up and breaks my rhythm of chopping. Then another, and another, and another. Just too many minor nuisances make this game not really that fun to me.

Some from the top of my head:
- Lack of any sort of map
- Worms (a crawling sort of enemy that spawns in groups, are hard to hit, and unlike zombies, you can only hit one at a time with melee?)
- A tiny loading screen with every door (for example, in an apartment building, you have a slight break between going from the hallway to a room, the room to a closet(?!?!?!?!??!), the closet back to the room, room to bathroom, etc etc)
- Spending about 5 seconds "looting", finding a random item, then being told your inventory is full, so you have to toss something out, and spend another 5 seconds to "loot" it again
- As far as I know, you can't really double tap a zombie. Once you kill it, its basically "dead" but has a 25% or so chance to revive, so you're just waiting there for a couple seconds before you move on to looting to see if its up for round 2. Proceed to repeat as it gets up for round 3 (Not sure if they can go for round 4)
- No equipment comparison? I have to keep scrolling up and down to see if this random item I found is better or not
- Several "basic" skills being locked out by perks? I'm not sure I understand it correctly, but some actions like "dodging", "sprinting", and "sneaking" need to have a level spent to unlock, but unlocking it also buffs it?
- Character decides to go 2 inches a second when reloading
- QUEST FINDING. Dear lord, I spent a good 30 minutes just finding quests. Without a mini-map of any sort, you think the designers would put all relevant NPCs at the main room of the "quest building". Nope. You have to navigate a maze, with several of the floors being COMPLETELY empty, just to find the people who would give you a quest, only to find out that for WHATEVER reason, some guy stranded in Town A wants you to go to Town B because he cares(?). Then after doing the quest, you have to spend another 30 minutes finding the dang NPC to turn it in.

I honestly much prefer No More Room in Hell, but this one has a (slight) RPG system, so there's that I guess.

Walked backwards through the dark woods in Quadrant C with nothing but a torch, fearful for the zombies that are after my sweet hoard of corn. Bump into something, turn around, get mauled to death by a bear.

9/10 - They didn't provide me with an anti C bear circle.

Takes more skill and teamwork than CS:GO and Overwatch combined.
Nuff said.
