Now, bear in mind that I DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE. I didn't update the video drivers, didn't update DirectX, didn't mess with Windows Media Player - I did none of that stuff. The only thing I did was re-download part of the game.

Basically, I think there's something wrong with the launcher: seems like it randomly corrupts files during downloading. Or maybe not randomly, but when you pause the download and shut down the PC (that's why I mentioned this).

If this "corrupting the files while downloading them" issue is indeed random, that this solution might not work on the first try, but all you have to do in this case is just delete those files and start the download again. Yeah, I know, it's tiresome, but if you do that thing with the checksums like I did, you would only have to download 20+ Gbs instead of the whopping 60,
