So, here's the positives for this game:

-The combat system has a couple more buttons than the original.
-Dodge roll

As for everything else sadly, it feels like Bokura's attempts to give life to the already misguided original Blue Protocol is a lost battle. There's no decent controller support (of what I can find at least and I did try), the "improved" combat doesn't feel that great when you're playing with 110+ms ping and rubber band back into enemy telegraphed attacks - DLSS exists but you have no real control over how it's set unless you force presets via the Nvidia app, the gacha-ification is honestly kind of insanely stupid in terms of an overwhelming amount of currencies and single use tokens, the story for what I've played is a series of "go here, talk to airona" for at least what would've been the first couple of hours of gameplay if I didn't skip every single cutscene, and honestly my general feeling of the game is very lukewarm at best. Also, face animations are intended to look "anime" in their framerate but honestly, at 1 frame per whenever the effect just looks cheap and really doesn't sell the look at all.

I likely expected too much - we collectively projected our ideas of a dream MMO through the idea of WoW or Final Fantasy but with action combat and anime characters but, the systems honestly feel surface level at best and horribly shallow at its worst. The idea of an anime MMO with deep substance and engaging systems still doesn't exist, and though it has the stylistic flair that will draw most people to trying the game out, there's no backbone that really sells the world as anything meaningful, and I'm scared of wasting more time playing to find out if I'm wrong.

The first strategy RPG to grasp ahold of me in a long time is...the first strategy RPG to have had grasped ahold of me into the genre to begin with.

What makes Tactics so compelling is not just the simple-yet-complex depth of its turn based strategy and job system that encourages you to mix things up along the way, it's a war story told through people rather than exposition and yet, the lore and depth of Ivalice is by no means lacking.

Essentially, if you enjoyed Baldur's Gate 3 but the likes of Triangle Strategy and Tactics Ogre Reborn didn't really do it for you, Final Fantasy Tactics is definitely a game for you and well worth experiencing. Sure it's a remake and people will nitpick over what they didn't include from War of the Lions but sod it - it's a great game made better.

I'm a little bit disappointed with this content honestly - for my project I wanted pixel art trees that were fully modeled in all directions, but sadly these trees only support 1 direction and have no back to them. I might as well have just made my own 2D trees instead of paying £17 for something arguably worse.

It's hard to recommend this game - it looks great but plays like ass, it's really fun but has the most god awfully boring as ♥♥♥♥ story campaign you have to trudge through to get to the fun bits, Crapcom still haven't fixed the PC version to an acceptable standard yet and yeah, there is fun to be had in this game, just good luck trying to justify the price tag on the journey there.

Don't get me wrong this really is a great game however, the late game power scaling gets ridiculous in that suddenly enemies will instantly turn around and 2-hit headshot you and completely loses that sense of realism that the devs have worked so hard on through A-Life, weapon simulations, etc. Also unmodded, enemies can feel incredibly spongey, even if you're using your best armour pen rounds on a fully upgraded endgame assault rifle that seems to bounce off enemies like it's nothing - heck, even had a situation where I used a rocket launcher on an enemy only for him to glitch 20ft in the air and start chunking away my health on full auto, no 144ms average human reaction time from visual acquisition of me to firing, just straight up unrealistic glitch and blast that kind of ruins the immersion of an otherwise great game and story.

I look forward to future updates, whether GSC or Grok release a fully realised A-Life for the game, whether some of the visual artifacting finally gets fixed, for now though I think I'm going to head back to GAMMA as it's just a better maintained game.

I spent about 20 hours building a highway network.

But also yeah, without hyperbole this is likely one of the best games I've played in the past 10 years. Sure it starts slow and people will say "Oh it's a walking sim bro" - just go for the journey, let it lead you where it wants to take you, take the deliveries little by little, treat each little job to begin with as its own gaming session, literally learn to walk before you run and genuinely, I hope you'll have as much fun playing this as I have as the once it clicked, it captivated me.

The story is at first confusing and will eventually make sense if you allow it, has some cringeworthy dialogue in parts but it certainly serves as charm for the harder hitting core of the experience.

But if this game does something better than its contemporaries, it's authenticity. It's a Hideo Kojima game, warts and all, and that's pretty great if you ask me.
