Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this game in its current state of completion; thirty dollars is a not-insignificant amount of cash and for this game, it is not worth it.

For starters, let me address the good. There is a base of solid mechanics in the game; on paper, this game would be fun: a strategy game focused more on your ability to allocate resources and assess the strategic picture than your ability to click really, really fast or micromanage base structures.

Sadly, while the foundation is there, the rest of the game isn't - and the game that is is often bug-ridden or heavily unpolished. By far the biggest problem I can see is the atrocious artificial intelligence, something that cripples enjoyment the tactical battles when your primary vector of influencing combat is you ability to allocate resources and call down support. Direct control of the units somewhat solves this problem but further decreases the fun-factor of the game as tactical battles become click-fest to herd the extremely fickle AI into advantageous positions. In any case, when I play this game, I want to feel like a base commander making big calls, not a sergeant on the ground managing each individual soldier.

For a game that claims to be in full release (it's not in steam's early access program), thirty dollars is not worth it. There are far better tactics and strategy games out there in the world for a similar price or less - Regiments and Nebulous Fleet Command come to mind instantly.

Little side note, following is purely a me-thing, but I also feel that the AI art degrades the quality of the game overall. If need be, have simple text and solid color backgrounds; I would much rather stare at the former than a mess of not-quite-right pictures. The actual gameplay graphics are fine, though.

Good, but development is agonizingly slow, and seems to prioritize fluff as much as core gameplay aspects. New weapons and character models are put into the game before systems like armor or first aid, or new gamemodes like survival or raid; combined with the lengthy development cycles it means that it feels like it takes forever for anything meaningful in the game to be added.

The game itself is decent, with some of the most satisfying gunplay I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing in a videogame and an expansive customization system for weapons, but the otherwise authentic and satisfying experience is unfortunately ruined by the enemy AI. They are essentially dumb-as-rocks terminators, who will stand around and take bullets from you until you enter their engagement range, at which point they will instantly headshot you. If you are in a building, they will all march in the same exact doorway their compatriots and get shot, at which point more of their friends will repeat the process. They will not flush you out with grenades, suppress you with automatic weapons, or flank you. They will simply walk towards you and die. V1034 appears to fix some of these issues, but I will reserve my judgement until the stable release of the branch comes out.

The reason I am giving this game a recommend is because I did, in the end, have fun with my friends. The experience was enjoyable, for me, even despite the complaints listed above. I would, perhaps, wait for a sale though, 30 dollars is a bit steep for the current state of the game.

Accessible with a good learning curve. Not too easy, not too hard - a good balance between arcade and realism. I wish it had multiplayer though, and am sincerely hoping it gets it sometime in the near future.
