This is it.
If there has to be a definitive answer as to where my descent into the degeneracy of anime began, this unironically is The game that had me walk down this path.

No regrets.

Nostalgic. Very nostalgic.

I feel like, ahhh... It's always hard to write something meaningful into these reviews, like what do I really say when most of my valuation of a particular thing is fueled by just the nostalgia factor that I have? Obviously that is not really an objective signal of quality, nor it is relatable to others in any way shape or form.

As far as more objective evaluation goes, this is one of the first initial gachas out there, its monetization is infinitely less predatory than present day gachas. I own hundreds of characters, and I can still keep getting more as a total 100% free to player. Many of these characters are meta top tier picks, so its not like f2ps are getting showered with crap.
The literal only thing that is more substantially paywalled is just cosmetics, but you get an actually fairly generous trickle of the premium currency to allow you to occasionally spend on some costumes here and there, as well as get practical upgrades.

I do feel it's important to mention, yes there are practical upgrades locked behind premium currency; however you get enough premium currency at a decent enough rate that you will never really run dry on stuff. Such upgrades are barrack slots for more character capacity, equipment storage capacity, dormitories to showcase furniture sets, etc.
So, while practical none of these are actually impactful of gameplay beyond some nifty QoL degree of things, and you can always buy more storage for chars, equips when needed.

That's it. I could tell you more, it wouldn't make sense and it wouldn't really be worthwhile, I would talk a lot but not "say" a lot. It's just a lot of sweet personal memories. Sometimes it is bittersweet. The story definitely is always bittersweet. Some people have very enthusiastically taken to calling this game's story "Depression porn" because of how impressively everything goes wrong, all of the time. People joke that the head-honcho over at the studio that makes this game is some sort of nihilist.

For what it's worth to you, dear reader, this certainly is an experience entirely unique to itsself, both story and gameplay wise. There is no gacha game like this out there for better or worse, although that is not my argument to make.

I derive no joy from this, but the developers, as is known from over a decade of being like this (see previous projects) are too arrogant to actually care about anything else... so here goes my negative review, add it to the pile.

Between the literal silencing of critics who merely speak out loud the issues all of us experience with this game everyday, namely issues like insane performance problems, tons of oftentimes game breaking bugs and software dysfunctions, not to mention the silencing of any individual on discord or the like who speaks out against Arrowhead's interests, it is a total circus. The discord is the only place the devs check but it has turned into a 1:1 perfect example of what is defined as toxic positivity, it is a completeley deafened hugbox, an echochamber staffed almost exclusively by the most sweatiest die-hard bootlickers of Arrowhead known as the glazedivers, a rather inglorious nickname for a rather inglorious type of person.

The only thing we know from the past they even SLIGHTLY care about is just the review score on steam. So if everything else is silenced, ignored, glanced over...this is what we will do.

Now I know, people will cry hypocrisy and more as I will actively be playing the game, even as this negative review will likely linger for a good long while.
This, what I'm about to tell you is a little secret of the old-er generation, something youngsters just dont get nowadays.
It's called passion. To be able to like something even to the extent of criticising it when it shows objectively how flawed it is, that is true passion. Glazing an inarguably flawed, defective software to no ends is not passion, that is being a dumb ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and a hopeless yes-man. The world has enough of those, quite enough indeed.

I want to be able to play a campaign with my friends without anyone's game crashing, bugging out or worse.
I want to be able to use more than roughly 40-45% of the arsenal without trying to bend out of shape to try and salvage some value out of the dozens of (by design no less) insanely underpowered weapons, stratagems. Not much actual variety if the alternatives are literal garbage!

I just want the game to be good as much as a heinous crime that is, apparently.

And to all the people who think that negatively rating a game I actively will play here and there (no less a game I accrued over 550 hours in), I got nothing to tell you in all honesty since you wouldn't understand either way.

This is how you get the devs to fix their game, as ugly a process as it is.
I could write more here, but the thing is that anyone who would read this and care about it, already knows.
And the rest leaves just the glazedivers, who are completely brain-dead and incapable of critical thought, so no chance there.

This review does function as more than just a last-resort ticket to the devs to get them to pull their head out of their ass : if you are a newcomer thinking of buying this game, just don't lol. You are in for a LOT of tough-love and that is putting it VERY lightly.
Wait and see if things improve, knowing arrowhead's decade-spanning track record things likely won't actually improve.
There will be false-positive periods just like with the 60-day patch which feels like a different world entirely, then back into the diarrhea soup we all go! They will likely keep doing this until running the game into the ground for good.
So why even bother with this review then? Well as they say hope dies last...

I'm leaving comments off because I don't feel like scraping off under-thought glazediver drive-by comments as I try to go about my day although there's always alternative methods of reaching me if you, for some reason, really need to discuss anything.

In a short but still meaningful manner, the best way I can describe this game is by calling it the High Fleet of space mining sims.
If you know High Fleet, you know what I mean, but even so let me just make note of some of the major points and strengths of this game:

- Barely any hand holding. There is a basic tutorial to get you to understand the basic controls, and that is that. After that you gotta figure out everything yourself. For some people this is basically their achilles heel and they need constant guidance to do anything in games, and yunno, that's fine. For others like myself, that true sense of freedom is very welcome.

- Ship customization and handling is truly unique and extremely in-depth. It feels like every ship is a linux distro, with little to no "meta" crap anywhere, what is good is what you feel is good for your playstyle and following arbitrary guides will get you very little enjoyment or even success. Gotta discover what works for you and all that jazz. A good example of the freedom when making your own ship, is that you can accidentally make it use so much power that everytime you use your thrusters you shut-off your powergrid, thus turning off your HUD, which will then need to boot up as your capacitors regain power. When selecting individual modules, the game Does warn you if something uses more heat or energy than you produce, so heed those warnings very well, or... Else ;)

- The game has a variety of systems to keep you entertained. I don't really want to spoil anything, but if you feel like that "just" space mining would be too monotone and uninteresting, do not worry! The dev very much shares that same line of thought, hence why there's an enormous load of things to discover and do in the game. It gives you a good, pretty consistent line of things to do. Bump into derelict ships you can tow back home to refurbish and use, or sell. Find other miners, ask them for useful information, which might lead to rich mineral fields or strange mysteries. The game has a ton going on under the hood, and that mystery and intrigue of not knowing how will your next Ringdive end up looking like is truly exciting. But at the end of the day, pursuing these mysteries and such is a choice you gotta make yourself. If you feel like going full rockfondler mode, that is perfectly okay and there's lots of places where you can do that safely.

- Strong demo and fairly affordable. I try not to bring the price of a game into quantifying it's qualities, but let's be honest, in today's economy and all the chaos, some people might not be able to afford every 60 euro gaming experience off the shelf. This game's base price is quite cheap, and it goes on quite strong sales fairly often. Add to this, a pretty good demo that more than allows you to get a good feel of how the game plays and feels, meaning you can make a pretty well informed decision on this purchase. I will just quickly write this here in case anyone is wondering, all the DLCs are purely cosmetic.

All in all, a very good, if niche game. I can certainly see a lot of people being turned off not by the quality, but rather the type of game this inherently is. But if you are the type of person tantalized by such a game, I guarantee you, it will stick like hot glue!

Pancakes

Honestly, an amazing and short game. It is very light-weight (277mb as of the time of writing this) and is super quick to install. Features customizable controls, which is nice for a game as simple and short as this.
Manages to do a pretty mind blowing twist that puts numerous other stories and games to utter shame!
It is very short and simple and just simply amazing!

Go try it out!

You won't regret it.

I really don't know why I have this game.
The store description alone is already horrendously broken, which already is quite scary seeing we haven't even gotten to the actual gameplay yet.
There is nothing to note, it's just sh*t, that's it.

Don't waste your money on this. Another early access game, full of promise , that ended up in the trash bin.
Nobody entirely understands what happened exactly.
I bought the game in it's Early Access. Was fun, despite the piles of bugs and issues all around everywhere.
Updates were consistent, and everything looked great! I always checked the news to see what wonderfull things they brought into the game, and it was fun trying out those features! Bugs were smashed, problems solved, and additional content added on the way. Everything looked pretty great!
Until it happened...
Still missing tons of content, they suddenly for no reason released the game!
One moment, there are regular updates with content and stuff and then poof, game released.
The soundtrack was amazing, perfectly fitting the environment, and better equipment was being added so that players could get to deeper biomes.
Then they decided to release it half-baked. There aren't even armor sets that would let you reach the deepest biomes!
Many biomes can't be reached at all! And tons of other stuff was missing still!
Combat was still very annoying, with enemies being extremely agile, having a very tiny hit-box, which sometimes wasn't even on the enemy! There was a crab enemy infamous of it's mis-placed hit box, because of which you could only hit it if you fire above it.
They kept releasing very tiny bug fix updates and smaller content updates, that only seemed to make them look like they were alive, when they didn't really add anything important.
Now, they have been silent for a long time.
The last post was a sort of "We are not dead but lots-a stuff going on now" post. They said in max a few months they would explain things. That post was put up in April.
Although nobody knows exactly what happened behind the curtains, but the most common idea is that the developers over time lost their determination to keep on going, and released the game early, turning it into a cash-grab.
The fact that even now, not having responded to anything for months, the game still gets put on sale, and once it was even sighted on humble bundle, only supports this cash grab idea even more. And then again, like i mentioned previously , before they went silent, they were releasing fake updates, that added nothing but thin-air to the game, only so that they make others think that the game is alive, when it is not.

TL;DR: Another early access game that had the potential and fun, but it mysteriously died out. Now it is only a carcass of a game that once was full of promise.

Once again, for a final time: Don't waste your money on this! I beg you...

Spicy game that has good replayability value and a load of fun package with it!
Some good DLCs in there too. Though i haven't bought and used them myself, i can tell they are good stuff.
