I've had this game on my wishlist for years. I love the soulsborne games, so when I seen this I thought I would absolutely love it. It checks every box for me. A dark souls type of game, A 2D "retro" style, Beautiful music, Difficult boss fights, etc. I finally bought it while it was on sale, & got to trying it and man... Was I disappointed. Everything that makes the soulsborne games so gratifying, are completely absent here. Learning the boss, Countering the boss, and overcoming it is non-existent. One hit, and you're dead. One hit, and most of the bosses are dead. This is a bad system in my opinion, because it takes away from the planning of your attacks, and the risk vs reward system that soulsbourne does so well. After playing this for the albeit short amount of time I have, I got into a mindset where I just rushed in, ran around, and hoped to get the hit on the boss before it got the hit on me. It seems like the game was designed more to "annoy" you, than to be a "challenge" Is the best way I can put it. The other big issue I had with the game is; you're basically in the exact same loop the entire time. Walk to the boss, die, re-spawn, repeat. Also, The further you get into the game, the longer the grueling & uneventful walk to the boss that killed you becomes. There's no gaining extra items, because items don't exist in this game. no grinding to attempt to gain a little bit of an edge, nothing. This walk is utterly useless, besides the fact to say "Ha Ha!" I definitely don't think it is a "bad" game by any stretch, and I'm not surprised a lot of people love it. It just isn't the type of game for me, and if you are expecting the same thing I was.
