My favorite competitive FPS since Quake 3. The scaling back of PvE is disappointing but as far as competitive PvP shooters go there's nothing better at the moment. Incredible hero design, great competitive modes, terrific maps.

It isn't casual like TF2, something the Diablo style PvE mode was going to address, but for anyone willing to put the time into the competitive mode its the best.

UPDATE: GOATED. The game over the last year has never been better, one of the best PvP shooters ever made.

Doom Eternal and The Ancient Gods might be the best single player FPS I've ever played.

Its Quake deathmatch meets Devil May Cry. The only negative is that TAG2 isn't as strong as TAG1. The game also takes a while getting off the ground as it doles out your kit. Once it clicks there's nothing better.

Duck Tales + Mega Man + Zelda II + a little bit of Demon's Souls = Shovel Knight

Shovel Knight takes the best parts of late 80s/early 90s platformers while discarding what was tiresome and outdated about them. Its an amazing game of that genre without falling into the easy traps of referential humor, retro parody, or leaning on nostalgia to make up for mediocre gameplay.

I bought it on Wii U, then 3DS, and now Steam. Its the best platformer in years and one of the best games of 2014.
