Easily my favorite game in the franchise.

Although it is hardly an RPG, honestly I'd argue it isn't one at all, it still carries the core of what makes Final Fantasy a good series with a heartfelt story and meaningful themes. It's all largely revisiting of previous concepts in terms of theming, but it is done in such a loving manner that it is clear the team behind this game wanted to tell something original and still hold the right idea.

Mechanically the game is a wonderful rollercoaster of spectacle fighting combined with fairly simplistic controls and combos. Despite this, it never actually holds the game back. My only criticism here is that the poor attempts at integrating RPG mechanics actively hinder the experience. You're regularly told that you've just levelled up and how all your stats have gotten better! But the only thing that truly matters is that your HP has increased as well as your damage potential. Items exist, but purely in the form of consumables and equippables. However, the latter has clear best in slots that you acquire about halfway into the game, leaving you with a free third slot to do whatever with... Until you do the DLC and acquire your third best in slot. From there it's easy coasting as you just get bigger number sword.

That being said, these are all in service of a series of fights that never feel like they drag on too long, with encounters in the wild largely being up to you to engage with. You can ignore most of them and be perfectly fine. The required fights never drag and always lead to a promising, and honestly rewarding, boss fight with rare exception. Said boss fights, especially the big narratively important ones, are a wonderful mixture of spectacle and real mechanics. Some of them seamlessly weaving the two sides into a single, cohesive experience.

If you are even passingly interested in this title, I highly recommend you give it a shot.

If you are like myself and actively pushing against AI generated content in games, then avoid this game. It is still using assets generated during early access, but the the only thing they removed was the disclaimer saying they were using it.

Mechanically great game only for it to be soiled by outright dishonesty from the team.

A quick lil' walking sim that does a great job of immersing you in its world and expressing the love the creators had for the original novel it is based off of. It's gorgeous, but slow and it has several technical glitches that can really pull you out that are mostly texture-based in nature. Due to this it's a hard recommend for full price, but discounted to 20 dollars or lower I can fully give it the go ahead to anyone with an interest in science fiction.

Very short, which is surprising for an incremental game.

Worth the 4 bucks if you want to just burn an afternoon!

After finishing this game's campaign, playing about half the ops missions, and a solid chunk of the PvP I have to say that it truly is a mixed bag of a sequel that leans heavily on the "worth it" side.

The game is far from perfect and most glaringly is that it is not the most well-balanced experience, particularly in the solo gameplay of the campaign. Your AI companions will not pick up the slack as the only thing they will be picking up is your unconscious body over and over again as you repeatedly run defensive objectives for the first half of the game. All while you are overloaded with enemies that will positively chip your HP away no matter how effectively you fight. I will admit I am not the best video game player on the planet, but on Veteran difficulty I could not engage Tyranids at all without watching my HP be wittled away slowly but assuredly. Every major encounter felt like a struggle, but for all the wrong reasons. Not that I think the game is unfair or bad, far from it, but rather I feel like the combat is balanced towards something else entirely. Tyranids solo is an experience in fighting enemies who will always be damaging you.

That being said the game looks great, the combat loop is awesome, and there's tons of great customization and progression you can see in the ops mode. Which leads to another paint point: The attempt at a live service product. I'm hesitant with this title as I am unsure what the plan is for future content. You can pay 40 dollars for the "season pass" which clearly entails what it will give you in the coming year, but I cannot help but worry that said 40 dollars will not carry you as far as you want it. Unless of course all you want is cosmetics. In which case go ham. For myself I am concerned that not too long from now we may see another season pass or 30-40 dollar DLC expansions for the story (which said campaign very much, absolutely plays into having). These wouldn't be bad things in a vacuum, I merely caution for what they could mean.

The PvP is an unbalanced mess, but honestly in the fun way. It's an extremely casual experience that I appreciate. Don't let it get too much to your head and remember to enjoy it rather than worry about it and it should be a great experience for you as well..

My final point is the flavor, with which this game is oozing. There's tons of small details that make me enjoy the experience far more than I should. Offhanded dialogue from random NPCs throughout the campaign that fills the little microcosm of this vast setting with so much love and energy. The characters feel right at home with the setting and the story is a delightful follow up to its predecessor.

I have extremely low tolerance for replaying games, and by extension this affects my tolerance for roguelikes. That being said, this is hands down my favorite of them all and I say that not as this is the one I tolerate, no this is the one I love. It is one of the few games I find myself picking up and putting back down on a regular basis, and my love for it extends so far that I took the time to 100% the game. I hope that you yourself take the time to play and appreciate this wonderfully crafted gem of a game.

Now we're hiding reviews and marking them as spam when it's the playerbase rightfully reacting to and rejecting a slew of changes made in the name of ridiculous censorship and the like. You're taking away a legacy the previous team left behind as well as content people had paid for and when faced with the consequences you run away. This is pathetic behavior for a dev team.

If you're going to make changes that upset people, at least have the gall to own it.
