As someone who has 1000's of hours on f1 games from 2016 and as someone who has been waiting for VR since 2017:

The game itself is really good. The AI are much better this year, making mistakes more and causing more interesting races. They actually go for more moves like a player would so you have to be on your toes because they may do a little dive like a real person would. They still give up too easily though side by side but are better than last year.

The handling imo is much better than last years and the cars are actually fun to drive. It is much harder to actually get the power down though and theres times where I spin out on corners I never would in the old games. (Run on no assists). But just need to get used to it.

VR is great. You can really appreciate the detail codemasters have put into the tracks. The lights, crowd, trees, details, every music from the stands is just amazing. Its very intense and you get a little lost in your own world for the races. Really does feel like you are there.

F1 life is meh

Now onto bad things

AI - The ai whilst they make mistakes, kept making the same mistake when behind me in Bahrain in T10. They would keep going off to the point I would know they were going to do it. Perez was behind me about 5 times and 5 times he would go off before he could challenge me. It ruined a real good fight. I have only done Bahrain so it remains to be seen if they will do it on every track but hope not.

Vr's optimisation is not the best and even with a real beefy PC, I had to change some settings around. I didn't get the crashes others are getting and have done a 100% race weekend without a crash but I am not running on Very high graphics. Even when running a constant fps, I notice theres very small delay on the tracking when you move your head, like input lag. Luckily, I have quite strong VR legs so I dont feel too sick but it could cause motion sickness. They may patch that out

Game is pretty buggy too. I had an audio glitch where the audio would just cut out. Also had a ghost on my couch.

Apart from all this though, game is SICK.

After reading all the comments I was still desperate to play it. Unfortunately I couldn't. My system couldn't handle it really, it kept lagging and i only got a solid 30 minutes of it running smoothly before it crashed on me again. I have restarted my pc 3 times, I have tried both Oculus and steam start up and nothing. Let me just tell you my system specs - I do not have a low budget pc:

RTX 3080 MSI
AMD Ryzen 9 5900
32gb Ram

And I still had issues on this game.

The actual game itself when running looked cool, the storyline looked great and I was looking forward to it. I wasnt too keen about nothing colliding with anything or you couldnt interact with say 90 percent of the objects but it seems the storyline was going to be fun. I am refunding this game as I just couldn't get it to work. Shame.

Didnt know how much of a psychopath I was until I played this game...... I might need help

No matter what i do or what i change, my game keeps crashing to desktop with no error log, in any mode and i cannot do a damn thing about it. Cannot even change the options because it crashes. I played about 30+ hours with it before it started crashing and it was right after the update. So for now i am going to leave a negative review until I can get this fixed.

EDIT:

I'm changing this review back to a positive. i found the fix (i had to turn off the steam overlay app because for some reason that was making me crash). I should not have to do that anyway but at least i got it working. The game itself has the best ai they have ever made and really defend and attack you whereas last years game you had to literally let off the gas on the straights for them to pull alongside you.

Love the sounds, love the handling the games just good but too many damn bugs man,

Changing this Back to a negative. Now i am recieving random crashes through out my carrer mode races and its infuriating. It has only happened when they updated the game. FFS codemasters, if you're gonna fix your game, at least dont change things that were not broken!
