Love the game, the gameplay is great and quick if that's your thing and enjoy getting straight into action. But my god please add save/pause into the campaign and friendly ai in skirmish as these should've been present at launch. Giving it a positive as I know these will added but it really should've been present at the beginning

I bought this game not just because it's epic, warhammer, and is a blast to play much like older games.

But also as a huge middle finger to wokeism, retarded journalists and any imbecile who takes 'fun and immersive' as controversy instead of imposing bland morals, ideology and agendas that no one asks for.

Honestly to have a game released in a ready state. Without having corporate practices of draining my wallet in a half baked game is a breathe of fresh air. A universe that's still true to it's lore and not yet corrupted by unwanted ideas and agendas that would break the universe and divulge it into another trash heap.

For those people that don't like this play outlaws, dustborn or some other dei/uninspired drivel and let us enjoy this in peace. The fact that some people decided to give gollum a higher rating than this, even though gollum failed massively whilst this rakes in success says everything about the current industry

"The right to discuss is a privilege" - CA Evangelos as the whole moderator team locks and bans multiple people with valid criticism and requests. People who are in fact paying customers and some even being modding curators adding more to the game just absolutely silenced and banned meaning they can't even update their work or even access mods at all.

Honestly whats unfolded since the Shadows of change price hike all the way through Rob's lovely PR stunt, the cancellation of hyenas being a flop and making their fan base suffer for their mistakes and now being outright hostile to their community is absurd. The entitlement of the upper echelons of this company has deterred me and any sensible person to not only stop supporting this game but the whole franchise and even company for that matter. The things that have happened most recently is absolutely enough for me. Especially their stance with certain people like legend of total war whom they recently blacklisted because he wasn't going to become some marketing ploy for CA even though they had agreed that his presence was going to be used as more of a voice for the community. Then later find out everything he put forward for CA was just ignored and shafted anyway meaning they lied to him. Times like this its important to remember...

Their ability to keep running as a business is a privilege, not a right

So, Arma Reforger, to be fair to this game the engine is nice and has a huge amount of potential, however, the game is an issue, I'm currently having issues connecting to any server and the lack of features to host private servers with a few buddies on Zeus mode and the bugs encountered so far are jarring. There is a game master mode but no editor and I have no idea if it will be added later or never meaning you cant create your own missions.

The game is pretty much just pure multiplayer and doesn't have any single-player/campaign (You can just go into game master, put some guys down and control someone but that's it) and you can't even issue orders to AI troops as its purely multiplayer based with basic AI mechanics that just move and shoot.

The UI can also use a bit of polishing and more organised to find certain aspects easier. The experience so far and game play is a slightly unpolished squad where this game has take a lot of influence from, which of course isn't bad but is missing a lot of aspects that make ARMA unique at the moment.

The game is early access so everything wont be in but it is slightly lacklustre than what it should be.

The good things I really like however are the animations such as vaulting, jumping, moving around vehicles and furnished buildings and some destruction to objects rather than just toppling over like in ARMA 3. Also the new radio mechanics similar to TFAR/ACRE are present which gives this a few points in my eyes

Game had too many flaws in the beginning, just as there was some progress and promise in March the games development is now 'paused' with a high chance of it actually meaning that the game is now abandoned. Don't bother.

I feel like I should edit this. I haven't played this game since 2021, but after hearing the Invictus mod I've had a recent urge to play this again and its made the game fresh than before. If you pick this up use that mod for more variety that changes as this game is not receiving anything more than small patches

A good game with a lot of potential in the future when it comes out of early access with more features, mods and core gameplay ironed out such as performance issues addressed and bugs fixed.

Buy if you're happy to support the devs over the next few months and are willing to go through numerous issues from minor nuisances such as helmet clipping in first person and bugged quests to potential game breaking issues such as CTD's, infinite loading screens and potential stability issues as you progress through the game. (tried selling off some troops caused a crash, launching an assault caused a crash and late game tends to get unstable)

Again another review where I wish I could give it a MIXED score rather than anything else but I will give this a thumbs up.

PROS
  • Amazing new map that is very well detailed and a nice composition of urbanised, agricultural, and forest environments
  • Interesting new campaign with fantastic new gameplay features such as jamming devices and the spectrum device that allow
    you to receive, send information and manipulate enemies to get them away rather than engaging them.
  • Good beginning to the campaign which I feel is accurate as to how an actual 'First Contact' would be made
  • Good atmosphere and suspense at the beginning with the possibility of aliens lurking about (which isn't the case)
  • New factions and equipment is always a bonus to flesh out the game
  • Best dialogue I have experienced in this game with banter, jokes and suspense at certain moments
  • Good story writing
  • New CBRN gear and equipment
  • Loads of FREE new features
  • The new Robot is awesome and even has a militarised EOD variant which is awesome

    CONS

  • Too much usage of the spectrum device, although its a nice feature I pretty much used this for around 70~80% of the whole playtime with very little engagement which is fine but I would have liked it to link more to the aliens and to have a little more interaction this way
  • Finding and pinpointing frequencies and locations can be annoying especially if you don't know what your looking at and your trying to decipher information at the same time.
  • (I could be wrong) On further inspection with this feature in the editor the voice protocols for the spectrum device are all Polish meaning if you want to do some English broadcasts you wont find any on the module.
  • The new tools that this campaign has are tailored only to the campaign and are gimmicks instead of hardwired assets that can be used to creating missions.
  • During the first free roam mission I started loosing interest as it became more of a search A, B, C etc. or do X, Y, Z with one floating alien entity hovering about and some patrols which got repetitive over time
  • The campaign started with great atmosphere and an ominous feeling however when you work out where the campaign is going (although I liked the story) all the tension at the beginning just dissipates completely as there's no payoff for all that tension to make you feel satisfied
  • Lack of extraterrestrial content The game consists of four alien mechanical entities and numerous structures which is ok but thats pretty much it and with the price tag and DLC centred on the Aliens I didnt feel like there was enough and Bohemia missed such a huge opportunity with unique assets and units (some of which perhaps didnt need to be combative just something there lurking about like an actual alien or ai/projection etc. to either interact with or the alien interacting with the environment etc.)
  • The aliens that we do have are without any functioning ai in the editor, in the campaign the aliens are completely scripted to float, combat etc. which is a problem as you cant actually get these entities to do anything in the editor unless you can script them yourself
  • Most content for First Contact is specifically only available in singleplayer meaning if you want to use the alien entities and some other content you can only make singlepayer scenarios with them
  • The new map although nice lags extremely badly with low end pc's suffering the most, I could just eek about 20FPS when normally I can get 60+
  • The price is just a little too much for whats being offered and what has been missed opportunities imo

All in all its a OK DLC.

Did I enjoy myself at certain moments... Yes
Did it meet my expectations and the price tag... No

Buy this on sale for a little less however this DLC isn't terrible by any means just disappointing and I will give it thumbs up

All in all...

This is a nice addition to the game which takes a whole new setting based in Germany during the 1980's and the cold war. Its a nice change in direction and even playstyle in some sense compared to the semi futuristic setting ARMA3 is based on.

This DLC in general adds a vast, expansive and very well detailed map, definitely worth something as well as a nice array of weaponry and primarily land based vehicles with a few tanks inc the Leopard and T-55, APC's, AA platforms, Trucks and some civilian vehicles. On top of that, there are in total roughly 10 single player missions and some coop/multiplayer missions (haven't looked into these yet). It also contains its own soundtrack with some 80's inspired music which sets a nice, interesting tone as well as its own briefing segment before each mission which are all a nice touch to this expansion

The Main issue I have with this is so far is that for £15 (later to be £16) or your regional equivalent I feel as if there's a little less content to justify the price. There is currently no aircraft or helicopters (which is a shame as its a big map), although land vehicles exist, there isn't alot and could of done with a few more vehicles such as the BM-14, 2s1 and even the Schützenpanzer Kurz 11-2. It would also be pretty nice if there were a few more weapon varieties as well such as more AK variants, the MP5 or HKG3.

A minor gripe would be a certain lack of polish as there is some clipping through gear, friendly AI at times become completely unresponsive or stuck (this could be entirely ARMA's ai itself) would be nice if the missions could be revised possibly. This to me personally isn't primarily important. Although I haven't come across some weird AI behaviours (apart from the the ones I mentioned) where AI turn and walk away from their objectives. There are certain parts of this DLC that need to be ironed out and quality assurance should have been regulated primarily by Bohemia.

In general my stance is generally mixed and at the moment I recommend to buy it during a sale or something, however I will recommend this as there is a ton of work on Vertexmacht part and they've got the base template and mood spot on. As well as this, if what i've heard is true, they will updating the dlc as time goes by (which I hope as I feel its a bit pricy) which is fantastic news as they can then expand and add new additions to this DLC which hopefully may surpass its value.

Tank missions are nearly impossible to do as AI constantly get stuck and never move

This game is a nice change of pace from the usual tactics/strategy genre in which this game doesn't take itself seriously whatsoever (which is the aim). Although the game is released in a slightly buggy state, which the devs are already aware of and some units not in the game at the beginning, we can expect a periodic array of new content and mechanics such as new factions, maps, units and first person etc. in the future which could even extend beyond on what the devs already have planned *nudge nudge* ;).

Pros

*Clumsy, hilarious fights
*Detailed artwork and level design
*Large variety of units and factions (present and those to be implemented), especially when more will be added
*Variety of levels (with more to be added)
*Improved interface
*Sandbox modes
*When they get added eventually, First Person, unit creator and some other planned mechanics from development

Cons

*buggy, sometime game breaking bugs
*(even though it was OK for me) the price may seem a bit high for others compared to what the game is at the moment and depending on what your expecting.
*Units getting stuck on walls or bodies as a result of their weapons getting stuck and not navigating around properly resulting in some cases an never ending fight. (One prime issue is the defend the temple mission where this becomes very apparent).
* You will be tricked and rick-rolled you have been warned.

Additional suggestions

*The ability to have your troops put on hold instead of moving forward at the players will especially for the suggestion below
*Siege battles with siege units, (ladder, towers) combine this with better ai coordination and the already clumsy fighting mechanics could see some hilarious and interesting gameplay.
*Naval battles
*The ability to personally control and fight with any units you have placed on the map
*Better map navigation when deploying units.
*Night time scenarios
*Unit formations which provide certain buffs when maintained
*Multiplayer
