This is not the year to get into or return to Football Manager. You may be able to find some fun buried beneath the bugs and incomplete designs but it is clear that SI is still years away from completing the transition to Unity.

The Good:
- In and Out of Possession Tactics: Honestly this is huge and pretty much the only reason to play FM 26 in its current state.

- Controller Support: Like it or not the game needed to change to support controllers. The Steam Deck and other handheld PCs are here to stay and needed this change.

The Mediocre:
- Updated Graphics: It's a start but, like much of the game, its still a long way from where it can/should be. Much of the animations/models/etc are clearly placeholders that more than likely wont be replaced in this year's release

- FMPedia: The fact that it exists is good but the current content is a joke.

The Bad:
- Bugs, bugs and more bugs: There are bugs in pretty much every aspect of the game. Crashes, alignment issues, constantly having to redo settings that didn't get saved... The game is a mess and there are many, many months of work that will be required just to fix them.

- Staff Management: This is an essential part of getting good results in FM, especially from young players and SI really dropped the ball here. The hidden ability numbers was an interesting idea but the implementation is incomplete and the limited number of ratings makes it hard to compare staff.

There is no screen where you can get a summary of your staff members ability. There is an "All Staff" screen but no view that shows their ability. You currently have to click on each of your staff members to see their rating.

In short, they've made staff management tedious and far too vague and I imagine most people will be delegating this to their GM/TM to avoid the frustration of dealing with the new staff UI.

- The User Interface: Look, you are going to get a lot of opinions here... I don't want to talk about the overall design. I want to talk about the lack of cohesion and the number of screens that are clearly placeholders. It is painfully clear that much of the effort was put into a few screens (tactics, main overviews) and then the rest is just slapped together with no real design or over site. SI should be embarrassed at what they are releasing after 2 years of work. There are parts of the game that we are used to having that are so incomplete they might as well have left them out.

- Missing Details: The details have been lost in far too many places. Some of this is design, some of this is overs site, and some of it is just down right negligence. Tooltips, customization options, and progressions/training data are the worst offenses. The game doesn't even tell you what stats are being trained by Individual Training assignments in the UI any more and it's not in FMPedia either.

- Missing Features: We were told stuff would be missing but some of the choices hurt a lot. International Football is supposed to be coming soon but I'll believe it when I see it. Not having shouts frequently makes me feel useless during matches when players are out of sorts.

Harebrained Schemes makes great games with great stories and so far, Battletech is no exception.

Much like their other games, the story, theme, and gameplay are what makes the game great. This game will definitely scratch the itch for fans of tactics games and it adds a lot of depth when it comes to outfitting your team.

When you are able to find that rare match that is not completely one sided it is pretty fun...Unfortunately the rest of the time it is absolutely terrible to play.

Most matches go something like this: Match starts 4v4. One team gets heavily decimated and/or one team has a hacker. Half the losing team leaves the match and anyone who stays or manages to get placed into the match later suffers through 30 minutes of agony. Switch Sides. Repeat.

Can the one sidedness be fixed? Maybe. There is no team auto balancing during or between matches and the matchmaking seems to be terrible.

Can the hacking be fixed? Hope so...it's pretty obvious when you see it.

Ultimately there just isn't enough depth to the game to keep anyone around for very long and that is already starting to show with the very small (and shrinking) player base.
