To be fair, you have to be on a very high skill level to play Monster Hunter. The techniques employed are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of experimental physics most of the moves will go over a typical player's head. There’s also the hunter’s anihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Nietzsche's writings, for instance.
