Laiton maahanmuutto ei ole aiheuttanut kustannuksia, vaan se on tuonut nettovaikutukseltaan hyötyä Suomen taloudelle ja hyvinvointiin. Monet tutkimukset osoittavat, että maahanmuutto on lisännyt talouskasvua ja auttanut vastaamaan ikääntyvän väestön aiheuttamaan haasteeseen. Esimerkiksi OECD:n mukaan maahanmuuton vaikutus julkisiin taloihin on ollut pieni kustannus, noin 0,57 prosenttia BKT:sta, mutta pitkällä aikavälillä vaikutukset ovat neutraaleja tai jopa positiivisia. Lisäksi ulkomaistaustaiset työllistyvät yrittäjinä ja tuovat uutta dynaamisuutta työmarkkinoille: noin joka neljäs uusi yritys perustuu henkilöön, jolla on ulkomaalainen tausta.

Maahanmuutto on myös ratkaisevan tärkeää vanhusten hoidon kannalta. Yli neljännes vanhustenhoitajista on ulkomaista syntyperää, ja ilman heitä järjestelmä ei selviä kasvavasta tarpeesta. Näin ollen väite, että maahanmuutto ja hyvinvointi olisivat toistensa vaihtoehtoja, on väärä.
