I beat this game when it first came out and I was only 11 years olds. That being said I have EXTREME nostaligia glasses on. This was my very first rpg and it is what got me hooked on rpgs to this day. Therefor, this review is completely nullified for any newcomers lol.

For people with nostaligia glasses on, this game IS secret of mana and this remaster did not destroy it. Only negative I consider is the new soundtrack which is souless artificial crap. The sound settings allow you to switch back to the original, thankfully. It has the same mechanics and story as the original with the following enhancements:
Updated graphics
Full voice
Added cutscenes
Quality of life improvements
Additional banter segments when sleeping at inns

Quality of life improvements include:
2 shortcuts to weapons and spells
Quest page that reminds you what you need to do next
Controllable 360 dashing
Mini-map at top right cornor of screen

For all the negative reviews, people just can't be pleased when it comes to classic games. This happens so often. Why don't they just play the original then??? Jesus. If you don't compare each game with magnifying glasses and take this remaster for what it is, you'll be pleased. Only real negative is its price at $40. $30 would have been the sweet spot.

If you haven't played the first game, then you should definitely try that before considering Before The Storm.

If you loved the first game, then this game will be a no brainer. However, there may a couple things that will turn you off. The first being of course the fact that Chloe is now the main character and that the time shifting isn't available. But you may be pleasently suprised like I was and find deeper development of Chloe's character and seeing Chloe's perspective enjoyable. Chloe's character grew on me and if you end up caring for her, you'll find what happens to her impactful. The lack of time shift did make the game not as fun, but still it was an enjoyable experience. The voice acting and soundtrack are still superb in Before The Storm.

You should think of this game as an expansion of the first rather than a standalone game. From that perspective it really is a good game and adds greatly to the story of the first. One thing I don't like about the story is how Chloe and Rachel's relationship develops incredibly quickly even for kindred spirits. In some ways Chloe and Rachel are similar, but in other ways completely different which took a bit away from the believability.

The bonus episode goes over the time right before Max leaves for Seattle. The ending of that episode makes a playthrough worthwhile, but most of the episode was painfully cringy depicting the close relationship between 2 thirdteen year-olds and the stuff they do like pretending to be pirates. At the same time, that might be why my IRL nieces don't like me. lel

This is a quality game, but I do feel it has its flaws. The story wasn't very interesting. I loved dishonored 1 and the gameplay compared to the first just didn't feel as fun. This time around you're spotted much more quickly, so you'll either love that aspect or find it annoying like me. Pros are theres lots of builds and equipment that can be mixed and matched.

This is a good quality game, but you have to know what you're getting into before you buy. It's essentially survival horror. You HAVE to explore every nook and cranny for loot and "junk" so that you can upgrade your weapons and skills. If you don't, you can find yourself in a bad position later on, like no ammo left. To progress and get passed or kill enemies, you'll have to be very calculated. You can use explosive canisters or just outright sneak past them or find a hidden route. There's also many locked doors, where you'll have to be nifty to get through to get to more loot, whether by finding the keycode or finding a hidden passage way.

That being said, I didn't enjoy the game lol. It is a quality game, so I'm giving it a positive review, but the game isn't for everyone. You'll have to use your head on this one in every situation.

I highly recommend this game if you are a platformer fan. It has a lot of charm and very crisp controls. It's got its moments of pure awesomeness.

That being said, It does have some drawbacks and I wish it hadn't because then I could say it's such a good platformer that it competes with Mario for that #1 spot. However, there some pacing issues with stealth segments. They should keep to their strength and make it pure platforming. Also I wish there were more open worlds. A lot of the maps are kind of cluttered so you couldn't just freely run, jump, hook, and dive everywhere. The segments where you could were pure awesomeness.

All in all still an amazing platformer 9.25/10.

Superficial oversimplified junk

Has no field of view fix. DO NOT BUY IF YOU GET HEADACHES FROM LOW FOV!!!!!
And I cannot find a fov fix online, which makes this game unplayable for me.

Ni No Kuni 2 has the charm of a disney movie and the likes of animes created by Hayao Miyazaki and has a beautiful story with multiple plots intertwined. There is much to do in this game such as building your kingdom, recruiting citizens, skirmishes, slaying special tainted boss-like monsters, and over a 150 side-quests. Its execution does not disappoint. Your kingdom will be responsible for conducting research that gives access to spells, upgraded weapons and armor, create various buffs like increased loot drops, experience, and much much more.

The story will leave a lasting memory. Ni No Kuni 2 is a return to the jrpg glory days of the snes, ps1, and ps2 eras.

The developers aren't famous but their dedication to this game really shows. Not only is it a survival game where you need to build a base for protection from cannibals, you'll be unfolding a story as you explore deep caves with dangerous monters all the while finding upgrades to your gear. There are many items that can be built all the way from walls, to traps, to medicinal herbs and their components will be detailed in your survival guide and inventory. Items you'll find in caves will be things like flashlights, rebreathers, and upgraded weapons. The enemy AI is phenomenal, as they will walk routes, return with friends if they spot you, and study your behavior before attacking or even retreating.

Don't pass this game up, if you like survival, building, and adventure games.

This game has very mixed reviews, but boy I'm glad I bought this game. It's so cheap when it goes on sale anyway. I haven't even played the story mode yet, but I don't care. The coop mode is so much fun. This is a difficult game, so be ready to tackle a challenge.

Update: Going through story mode. It's great! It's kind of like Mad Max where you have to capture stronghold, but instead of melee , there guns and explosives. There's also hacking and distraction devices. Each device has a different version like proximity "mine" or remote control toy car. In terms of enemies there aren't just human enemies, but a truck equipped with machine gun, armored tank like vehicle, smaller robotic enemy, and drones.
