So after playing this game for about an hour and a half, I really struggle to find anything negative to say. The game is a birds eye run and gun bullet hell type of shooter with roguelike elements including permadeath, leveling, and randomly generated areas. Now the graphics here are simple, and the music may become a bit repetitive after dying a bunch, but wholistically the audiovisual presentation is fantastic. Everything has punch and pizzaz. While the character designs I've seen so far arent really anything unusual, besides maybe the crystal golem character, they all have a lot of charm. The gameplay is fast, energetic, and challenging. There is no wasted time between the action either. The longest downtime youll see is when you mull over switching a weapon or which perk to take when you level up. When you kill the final enemy in an area, you get sucked directly into the next level, no meandering about. Bosses show up a little unexpectedly and depending on the number of supporting enemies around can be quite the death knell. Weapons are spaced fairly evenly and ammo and health arent exceedingly common. These and experience can be picked up with a fair amount of magnetism, but what is really clever about all these (besides the weapons) is that they disappear in only a few seconds, which encourages you to move into areas where you risk taking damage. Vlambeer doesnt want you to be too cool and calculated. The game can be a bit ambiguous with the perk descriptions, and you have no real way of knowing how a weapon compares to what you already have without trying it out. For the energy weapons particularily, I had no idea what to expect. You can only carry two, so you have to choose carefully. Whether these things are positive or negative is up to your perspective, this sort of try it and see what you get attitude is common to roguelikes. Ultimately I found the game to be extremely fun and well worth its farily low price point.
