I thought the game might have been pretty interesting to play, and the (short) tutorial brought me up to speed decently.

The fighting is single-note. I'm not used to having to wait after the enemy actually hits me to make an attack, but aside from that, I could probably get used to it. If I wanted to bother with it any further.

There's no point to dodging. There's no point to changing attack direction after a block during the counter attack period, enemies just die or block, and if you try anything different you are somehow slower to swing than the enemy. Both get you killed because of a lack of real frame advantage for actually trying to interact with the mechanics given. Just block and shove sometimes. No dash to close distance (not as necessary) nor to make distance (why do charged attacks even exist, they're slow and go nowhere compared to enemies going halfway across my screen to hit me). Exercise in frustration.

Lovely pixel art and animations (when they're not sluggish as ♥♥♥♥, causing death) and blood splatter is pretty appealing to look at. That being said, I no longer wish to.

The DLC ending is... less than lukewarm. Think Redfall panning still image cutscene. Additionally, a good amount of major fights leading up to it has consistent framerate drops to an unstable <30 thanks to constant usage of mass AoE particles. Not many of the fights were fun, either. I went in chasing the high from beating Radagon over a year prior (which somehow had significantly more visual clarity despite their own mass AoE usage), as well as a bunch of particular Dark Souls 3 fights, but I just kind of finished the last three major fights in this DLC feeling nothing. Not even frustration or a childish hatred towards a video game enemy, nor elation from success. I was here before the Radahn and Malenia nerfs, and I'll still say these fights are just genuinely too much to be fun, if anything at all. It was just all so tiresome and frankly not worth my time nor the energy I spent.

May 5-6, 2024: Sony backtracks on forcefully pushing PSN onto PC players, which would have restricted access for over a hundred countries, while also having sold HellDivers 2 in said countries prior.
Right now, those countries are still region locked from the game on Steam. Wait until everything goes to normal. I believe the process of undoing the lock will take a bit longer than the amount of time it took for the game to be restricted.

Not for anyone who enjoys actually playing a video game. You'll spend 80% or more of your time playing faffing about trying to get places or on the floor taking massive damage. At least the server issues are gone, supposedly.

I'm gonna jump on the "Elite Dangerous is approaching the end of its lifespan, buying now is a waste of time and money" bandwagon. It's obvious that FDev either does not have the resources to actually fix this game, or they consciously make the decision to divert the resources to their other titles, which apparently they had idk. I can say for certain a lot of us didn't know that FDev even had other games until we tried applying logic to how Elite could have been managed and designed this poorly, and then discovered their other games. Did you know they have a shooter title?

Anyway, console support being dropped and VR support being a 99% lie don't affect me since I'm not part of those communities. However, it should go without saying that FDev dropping support for MULTIPLE major platforms (if you count every console individually, plus VR) is shady at best and downright malicious for the game at worst. Especially when they've announced that they just straight up will not fix repetitive planet generation now that they only have one platform to worry about. Ironically, this communication is leagues above what we've gotten for the past few years. Yes, even when Braben said something about running Odyssey fine on a GTX 980. (You're joking. We have reported performance issues with 3090s. You can't make this **** up.)

Other reviews have all you need to know about the game itself and I find it mind-numbing to end up repeating them verbatim, since all of the issues talked about are the same, because nothing really has changed for years. Obviously that doesn't make them any less terrible, especially given the above context. I'll repeat them real quick anyway: grindy game mechanic, on top of another grindy game mechanic. Poor performance and optimization. It's a telling sign when a lot of positive reviews recommend spending a significant portion of playtime tabbed into another program.
