At nearly 40 hours, I've finally reached the edges of this Early Access. I am in love with this game and I cannot wait for a full release.

Hades II has a lot to offer to newcomers and fans of Hades alike. I want to note that I am not a fan of roguelikes but I thoroughly enjoy this game. The story is the main reason that this roguelike keeps me coming back. As someone who played Hades I feel like this sequel not only lived up to its predecessor, but improved upon it in every single way.

For anyone curious, here's what I've completed aka what I consider to be the edges of the Early Access and more details about it. I have beaten Chronos below and Eris above. After you beat Chronos, you go to Zag's room and get a title card with dialogue about how more is to come, followed by a Thank You popup that encourages you to keep exploring the game. Above-ground is similar. There are only 2 complete areas and bosses, Eris guarding the entrance to Olympus. Defeating her gives you a little flavor dialogue about what Olympus may be like, then gives you similar Thank You popup.

There is a lot this game still has to offer after completing the tasks I mentioned above. You can unlock all available weapon upgrades and improvements at the cauldron, you can continue to progress relationships (even though they reach a certain limit), you can do Chaos Trials at the Pitch-Black Stone, or you can do Oath of the Unseen (which is similar to the Pact of Punishment at the end of Hades).

What makes Hades II different from Hades? How did it improve, as I mentioned above? Let's talk mechanics. Casting and Sprinting are the two major mechanical improvements that honestly make me hesitant to go back to Hades 1. There is a hard focus on using Magic in Hades II and I feel like it is to the game's benefit. You have a Magic bar above your Health bar instead of x number of uses. Casting in Hades 1 was really lame until you picked up a Boon that made it worth using. But in 2, not only does your Cast do something, there is a new mechanic called Omega attacks that have a casting time and are really strong -- all of which make casting a crucial part of your strategy. You can still hack-and-slash (my favorite way to fight in any game) but now you can add other cool attacks to it. The Sprint upgrade from 1 to 2 is probably the biggest factor in my hesitancy to return to 1. After using your Dash, you can hold down that button to continue moving faster aka Sprinting. This mechanic has quickly become my new favorite and, just like Casting, adds a new important layer to your strategy.

I haven't quite deep-dived on everything I love, so I would like to give honorable mentions to the collectibles, the vastly improved currency system, the gorgeous graphics, the breathtaking 2D art, and of course the stellar soundtrack and sound design. (As a sound designer, I'm kicking myself for almost forgetting team sound. You know as well as me I'm sure, sound is easily forgotten until something goes wrong because we're just expected to be great/work.)

To everyone who had a hand in creating Hades II, my deepest thank you and congratulations. You have created an absolutely amazing game so far, and I don't doubt that the final product will blow me out of the water. I eagerly (and patiently!) await a full release.
